Re: Paste into Layer
The insert position apparently depends where your mouse cursor is at the time of pasting. Probably similar like importing a picture. If your cursor is outside the visible working space it will be pasted at the center of the working space. And if you have centered your page/layer beforehand with resp...

Re: Linewidth of scaled polygons
@Moini, ok, that's how it is. However, I don't understand the logic behind. A stroke is a stroke and can be scaled or not. If I don't want it to be scaled I deselect the option "scaling stroke proportionally". Polygons and stars also have a fill and a stroke. Why shouldn't it be possible t...

Re: Linewidth of scaled polygons
Thanks, @brynn, for the links. They didn't show up during my search. It somehow seems related. And as I see so far, no simple fix... Attached the simple example from above as SVG... the left shapes was created by converting the triangle to path first, but then I loose the properties and features of ...

Linewidth of scaled polygons
If I scale a polygon in one direction, e.g. a triangle, I would expect the result shown on the left. (back=original, red=scaled) However, Inkscape creates the result in the middle. As you can see in the sketch on the right, apparently the thickness of the scaled line depends on the angle of the line...

maybe, then I am using it wrongly.Raspi wrote: I dont understand where you are getting this from.
Have you tried the Bezier Envelope ? It works.
That's what I get when I apply the Bezier Envelope...

Re: How can i draw an envelope path with perfectly symmetric handles ?
It could be all so easy if that Extension wasnt so picky about handle position. are you sure it is the handle position? Isn't the conclusion more: it doesn't matter whether you have a perfectly symmetric 4-point envelope, Inkscape cannot (yet) distort the path in a way you want it to be, i.e. compr...

Re: How can i draw an envelope path with perfectly symmetric handles ?
if you allow for another node, the following could also be a simple solution:
1. create an additional node in the center
2. make this node symmetric
3. drag this node vertically while holding Ctrl-key
4. drag one handle horizontally while holding Ctrl-key

Re: Align tools on components of a group
If I understand you correctly... depending on what you want to align to what in which way... Can't you use snapping to guides to align subelements of different groups? Additionally, - if the moving group should not change its x-position hold Ctrl-Key while dragging. - if you have a lot of points che...

Re: convert svg to jpg
@Gitte, are you still here...? If not, the following might also be helpful to others. I still assume you want to include an SVG into MSWord(?) and you don't want to lose the quality of the SVG by converting it to .png or .jpg? Try the following: - open the SVG with Inkscape - select all objects (Ctr...

Python script to crop SVG to bounding box?
I am trying to crop an SVG-File to its bounding box. With the Inkscape GUI it would be the following procedure: 1. start Inkscape GUI 2. load the SVG file 3. Page Properties (Shift+Ctrl+D) 4. resize page to content 5. save the SVG file 6. exit Inkscape However, starting Inkscape GUI takes too long.....

Re: Export to PDF without changing file type
Thanks again @Moini, I never thought and would have found that you actually have a choice with the open/save dialogs. A "good" one and a "bad" one, whereas the "bad" one is set as default... ;-) I put it on the wishlist. It shouldn't be a big thing and it shouldn't harm...

Re: Export to PDF without changing file type
Thanks, @Moini, the setting you mentioned is hidden under Preferences (Shift+Ctrl+P) Interface | Windows | Desktop Integration | GTK open/save dialogs If you set it to GTK, it remembers the last file format :-) Well, to my opinion, this actually should be the standard setting after installing Inksca...

Re: Export to PDF without changing file type
@Moini, yes, Win7/64.
gtk or native? Sorry, I don't know. How can I tell the difference? Maybe a hint... the save dialog buttons are in German (probably because my Win7 is in DE) although I set English for Inkscape.
No, I don't see a "recently used" section in the save dialog.

Re: Export to PDF without changing file type
Hi @pcarvalho, welcome to the forum. Maybe a small simplification might be: Open and work on your SVG, do changes and also save it as SVG (Ctrl+S). That's your "Source or working File". If you want a PDF use "Save a copy" (Shift+Ctrl+Alt+S). With this, you keep work working with ...

Do you have a screenshot? How does it look like?
...maybe like this...?
This is called the canvas or page.
You can hide it in the Document Properties.
Press Shift+Ctrl+D | Page tab | Border | uncheck Page border

Re: How to avoid distortions with Stroke to Path?
Actually, it's difficult for me to believe that this should be numeric imprecision. A concrete example: One node of a crossing which should be at coordinates x=73.12, y=264.17 is actually located at x=73.023, y=264.348 (that's about 0.1% off. Well, a detail, who cares ;-)). If Inkscape really calcul...

Re: How to avoid distortions with Stroke to Path?
I have set the precision to the maximum (Numeric precision 16 digits and Minimum exponent -10). But I'm not sure whether this at all influences the calculation precision of Inkscape or just determines the SVG number output. Well, if I enlarge the path e.g. by 500% and do the "Stroke to Path&quo...

Although, with single paths it seems to work for me but not with combined paths.

Re: How to avoid distortions with Stroke to Path?
OK. Yes... The intuitive, direct way doesn't seem to work without distortions: 1. select combined path 2. Stroke to Path You get distortions. Workaround without distortions: 1. select combined path 2. break appart (fortunately, all the subpaths stay selected) 3. Stroke to Path (fortunately, all the ...

Re: How to avoid distortions with Stroke to Path?
My guess is you have some path effects on the original objects. Not that I know of. I haven't used any LPE. These are just some Bézier curves. There is nothing to convert with Shift+Ctrl+C. The status bar tells me: Path 8 nodes on layer Layer1 Well, if I break this path (Shift+Ctrl+K) into its 4 su...
