Re: Filling Text leaves behind old color

If the "traditional" means fill color via the palette or dialog, the path can be open.

Redlining tools

We've had our fair share of sneaky shameless spammers, so please forgive our initial skepticism. In that regard, we can mention a competing product: Avocode. (Feel free to revise the subject/title of the first post as I have done here.) Any tool that helps more designers and developers appreciate an...

Re: Export SVG to DXF

DXF is a 2D CAD format developed in the stone age by AutoDesk Company. Here's what they have to say:

To be clear:
DXF is unitless. All CAD programs have to assign unit value on import.

Inkscape is no different. That is why there is a scale entry in the input dxf dialog.

Re: Export SVG to DXF

I agree, an example file would be good to examine.

TIPS:
When saving a copy as dxf, ensure that text objects created with the text tool are converted to paths before saving as dxf.

(Actually, all objects should be converted to paths, since dxf does not recognize many SVG objects.)

Re: Export SVG to DXF

You might also consider using "Save a copy as" (dxf) and keep the SVG file as the working master.

You can still open the dxf in Inkscape, but it might be best to use a CAD program like LibreCAD to validate the dxf file.

The file looks stepped-on... some program seems to have opened/saved the file with missing and converted tags. Even the filename looks like it was saved by a browser.

Re: Vector lines exporting to PDF thicker than .001

Ok, that's the answer I was looking for: the laser is seeing vector objects and engraving them. Sometimes lines can be so fine that lasers ignore them. Clearly, there was some modification to the zipped svg before the pdf was made: the page is a different size and there are two instances of each obj...

Re: Border only towards the outside

The fill and stroke dialog has tools for "paint order" which provide the ability to place the fill in front of the stroke, so that only the half of the stroke outside the path is shown.

Re: Vector lines exporting to PDF thicker than .001

the laser is still seeing them at greater than .001". When the file is run as a vector job only it outputs 0 seconds. I did double check the transparency and none of the items have any. No other effects/filters/etc. that could cause the lines to be rastered? (I presume the lines would engrave ...

Re: Vector lines exporting to PDF thicker than .001

Please note: many pdf readers will *display* <1px lines as 1px. The laser will still cut, though. The way to validate the lines are still <1px, is to zoom in on the pdf and see that the lines do not thicken with the zoom until about 1600%. https://dl.dropbox.com/s/v3z554prm3vierx/2018-10-13_08-13-37...

Here's an example:

If the geometric BB were considered when making object to pattern, the endcaps would not be in the pattern.

Re: Pattern stroke, treated as visual not geometric bounding box

The “tile” size of the Pattern is the total bounding box of the objects in the Pattern. If space is required around the objects, a non-visible rectangle object can be added or the Pattern size can be edited with the XML Editor dialog . Re: Saving a part of an image as a separate image

Seems like a lot of steps. I might use the big drawing, link to the bitmaps and use gimp's "cage transform" to stretch it while the Inkscape window is still open (overwrite the original bitmap)... Inkscape will show the updates. The bitmap can be clipped to hide unwanted areas.
