Re: Preventing bleed when saving

I'd run this: Menu: Extensions>Arrange>Deep Ungroup. Seems to help here. There are a ridiculous number of nested groups with masks and clips that aren't needed. I don't have the Avenir font on my machine, so I can't make a correct layout, but the image/color bleed issue is resolved. https://dl.dropb...

PS
Suggest the subject of the topic be changed to something like "How to make this shadow effect?".

Have you tried turning the brightness all the way down on your monitor?

Re: Introduction

Hi Bryce,

Welcome to the forums. =)

Thanks for all the work you've put into Inkscape! It's an excellent bit of software and the world is a better place for it being available as FOSS.

Regards,

Re: Has Inkscape fixed it's ppi issue yet?

I'll add bit of Inkscape info before we move on... Affinity does one big thing that all the FOSS software didn't and that is automatically make each element/object a separate layer. That in itself is huge! Here's Affinity: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/i43use8nh1w5lvy/2018-02-16_08-18-52.gif Layers are j...

Re: Has Inkscape fixed it's ppi issue yet?

If you are looking for an all-in-one solution for raster/vector, you might check out Affinity Designer. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/51264ee5e4b0beeaf9d382e8/t/5775717415d5db6a287cb0bb/1467314559455/ It's not FOSS, but it's a lot like Illustrator+Photoshop and only 50 bucks. Free trial ava...

To each their own, I guess... :?

I dumped that pig Photo$hop years ago and have happily been using Gimp for raster work ever since.

Re: Has Inkscape fixed it's ppi issue yet?

I really want to get away from Photoshop. ... If you've been using Photoshop, you could also install Gimp (gimp.org). Gimp is a bitmap editor like Photoshop (only better). It's common to use a combination of vector and bitmap editors together. I'd edit the bitmaps with Gimp, and link to them in Ink...

Maybe you have seen this:

For symmetry on a single axis, maybe check out the Mirror Symmetry LPE:

Re: Manipulating a picture image

Not the best use of Inkscape... it would need to be converted to vector first, with some degradation.

I'd use Gimp, a bitmap editor. Then, if it's part of a bigger layout, maybe bring the modified image into Inkscape to combine with vector objects.

Re: Inkscape or GIMP - which is best for my project

I think it's faster to do tables in Calc, personally. (I'm using v. 5.2.0.4 (x64) )

Using no borders in Calc seems preferable. each cell can have a border of its own (or not).

FWIW, it seems tables can be directly copied from LibreOffice spreadsheet cells...

Good: the text is editable text
Not great: the borders become individual paths.

I advise against screenshots for print. The bitmaps will degrade.

Re: Inkscape or GIMP - which is best for my project

For line drawings and text, I'd use Inkscape, or a combination of Inkscape (for graphics) and Scribus (for page layout).

Gimp is more appropriate for editing raster (bitmap) images.

There are controls for the pen tool, I'd check those before drawing, especially if anyone else uses that computer with Inkscape.

Feel free to upload your problem svg file to a sharing service like dropbox and post the link so we can take a look.

Re: Search error

The error phrase "too common" is just the phpbb stupid way of saying there was an error.

You can repeat the search with any string longer than 14 characters and get the same result.

A better search might be "sean*" without quotes, using the star as a wildcard.
