Re: Cannot associate svg files with Inkscape (Win 10)

This bug report will give you a way to do it. If I recall correctly, it's ultimately a Windows bug. But if you delete the registry key which is explained in the bug, the association should go right through. I've had to do that on 3 different versions of Inkscape now. So tired of it, but will soon be...

Re: Fail to open some jpg files

You're welcome to share the JPGs, and then we could test. However, if we also get the same error message, it won't help for finding out why they are causing Inkscape to crash. On the other hand, if a few of us all have the same experience, it would be solid ground to open a bug report and get develo...

Re: Help With Cutting out Lettering ,,,,,pulling my hair out

Unfortunately, we can't help you with your cutter/engraver machine. You'll have to either find the documentation for your machine, or find a forum or some other online documentation, to learn how to use it. I guess what you need to do is change the red and blue objects to vector paths for cutting or...

Re: How to draw the 2D scheme from the given shadow?

Is that photo, realistic? You mean the curved bars on that sphere actually create a perfect square grid in shadow? Wow! And so, you want to enter some equation into Inkscape (or other program) which will produce something in 2D, which can eventually be glued up into that sphere? I doubt if Inkscape ...

Re: Border only towards the outside

There are a couple of ways to make the stroke into a separate object. 1 - duplicate the object (Edit menu > Duplicate, or this button https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/Smileys/IC_Smileys/duplicate.png or there's probably a key shortcut, search at Help menu > Key and Mouse Ref) 2 - for the original...

Re: Saving under wrong file name

Do you mean you think Inkscape changed the name you typed in the "Name of file" field? Have there been any recent crashes, where Inkscape might have saved a backup file? If you open one of those backups (usually the date is appended to the file name, when that happens) and continue working...

Re: Border only towards the outside

That's been a requested feature for a long time, but still not possible. Besides tylerdurden's suggestion, another suggestion would be to make the outline into a separate object. There are probably a couple of ways to do that. Since I'm not sure if you might already know how, I'll wait for you to as...

Re: Installed Fonts not found in Inkscape 0.92.3

Inkscape needs to be closed when you install new fonts. Well, it doesn't have to be closed, but the font won't show up until you close and re-open Inkscape. If you've already closed and re-opened Inkscape by now, and you still have the same problem - If that's a free font, could you share a download...

Re: Box with spot for a magnet

Hi Newton, We're going to need a good bit more info. I'll ask all the questions I have. 1 - "....make some boxes with magnets...." It sounds like you mean real boxes, as opposed to drawings of boxes. Right? It sounds like you're going to use a digital cutting machine to cut out the cardboa...

If you changed it to a solid line, it should stay a solid line until you change it again. So I'm not sure why ...

Re: Pattern stroke, treated as visual not geometric bounding box

I guess we'll need to ask developers if patterns are supposed to respect the choice of bounding box. (Inkscape developers generally don't visit forums.) Since I've seen this problem myself (although not exactly in the same way as you presented) for years, I don't think it's new. Of course I could al...

Re: how to keep raster quality/detail when scaling down?

Well I know that if you paste vector contents on a Mac, it rasterizes the pasted content. Are you saying that pasting a raster image damages the raster image? Or that scaling it after you paste it damages it (but doesn't damage non-pasted raster image)? I'm not sure if that's been known, up until no...

Re: clip imported raster just inside colored line

I would probably trace the red line with the Pen tool, and use that to clip the raster image. Or trace the inner edge of the red line.

Re: how to keep raster quality/detail when scaling down?

No, I can't cite any references. It's just a fact of life that if you scale a raster image, it will pixelate. I have heard people say that scaling down a raster image won't pixelate it, but I've never been able to accomplish any scaling of a raster image, without degrading the sharpness. I suppose I...

Re: Pattern stroke, treated as visual not geometric bounding box

So you're thinking that the Pattern is supposed to respect whether the user has chosen the geometric or visual bounding box? If this is a bug, it certainly has been around for a long time. I'm not a frequent user of the round cap style (or even occasional, really), but I've always seen patterns act ...

Re: hangs when moving 2300 objects to new layer

'Edit > Select all' only selects objects in the current layer. It depends on what option you've chosen in Inkscape Preferences > Behavior > Selecting. If you choose "Select in all layers", then Select All does select in all layers. why doesn't 'edit\select all' doesn't select anything?) I...

Re: how to keep raster quality/detail when scaling down?

No, I think you misunderstood about SVG and scaling. There's no way to scale a raster image without losing quality. Just because it's in an SVG or other vector format file, it's still a raster image, and it still pixelates when scaled (or zoomed).

Re: I am in trouble (Inkscape on MacOS issues)

When you enable a tool, let's say Pen or Rectangle tool, please tell us exactly what "nothing works" means. For example, when you press the mouse button and drag, do you see the bounding box growing as you drag? The bounding box is the dashed line rectangle. If you see that, but you don't ...

Re: Keeps hanging when starting up, opening, or saving

Is it a large file? If so, how much RAM on your system? Or are you opening a new blank file? It seems like uninstalling fonts would make it start faster, instead of slower. So that part is curious. The only way I know to try and find out what's happening on your system is with either the Task Manage...

Re: Saving a part of an image as a separate image

Or possibly crop them in a raster program before importing into Inkscape? Depending on the complexity of the contents of the maps, I might consider tracing them first (vectorizing) and then warp the vector paths to fit the grid. Envelope deform LPE would be a good tool for the "warping". I...
