Re: Has Inkscape fixed it's ppi issue yet?

I still plan to use InkScape and promote it as a Free alternative to Photoshop. As mentioned a few times already, Photoshop and Inkscape are like apples and oranges -- entirely different. Inkscape creates and edits vector graphics , while Photoshop edits raster graphics (photos). While they have so...

Re: Double bezier lines

Can I salvage my earlier drawing (making it export as single lines only) or do I have to start again? If we could see your SVG file, it would help us answer that question. (I don't think attachments are allowed on this board, so tylerdurden's suggestion would be the best way) I know this is going t...

Re: Search error

How odd! Plus, I didn't think you could do a username search without being logged in already. Maybe it wasn't a username search, and the search tried to break up the string into words? Like maybe it searched "sea"....although that doesn't seem all that common.... Or maybe it recognized &qu...

@Zech I posted this comment to your feature request, but also posting here, for other readers. It's below. (For your link, it looks like you messed up the link. Re: Help with drawing a classical Spanish Guitar

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=classical+Spanish+Guitar&t=seamonkey&iax=images&ia=images You can also try differnet search terms, such as what TD suggested. After you choose an image, save it, then import into Inkscape. Then use the Pen/Bezier tool to trace it "manually". Do you nee...

Re: 3D printing using the OpenSCAD cookie cutter add-on

Very cute!

But yikes - I can't hardly get my fingers into that position. My thumb won't turn like that.... Oh, there we go. If I point my fingers outwards, like shooting a pretend gun, it works. But facing my palm towards me, like in the image - awkward.

Re: Inkscape file opening blank

If the file is too large to attach, even though it's blank, there's a chance the image is still "in there" somewhere. It could be as simple as - you hid the layer or all the layers? I know that happened to me once. A very complex image I had been working on for days or weeks, off and on. I...

Re: Join connected line segments that form open structure

Thousands.... If it's relatively a few open ends, you could do Select All, and then while holding Shift, deselect individually the open end nodes. Or depending how the paths are laid out, you could strategically drag selection boxes, while holding Shift. See quick video: https://inkscapecommunity.co...

Re: SVG 1.1 - fonts have wrong default family

the fonts have a default font family that is :( The font family is sad? Let me make sure I understand the problem. Here's what I observe. When I select the text with the Selection tool, the status bar identifies the font. But if I switch to the Text tool (without deselecting the text) the font at t...

Re: Changing the Default Export Location

Since the location to export PNG is saved per document, the user default.svg can have the location saved for use with each new document. Oh, interesting -- I had no idea that was possible! But you still have to name the file, right? Hhmm, I see that for the Selection option, Inkscape gives the name...

Re: Changing the Default Export Location

I'm not clear what you mean about the default location for exporting PNG files. Do you mean that when you use File menu > Export PNG, you want Inkscape to automatically put the files in some particular folder or directory? As far as I understand, you have to choose the location with every export. Bu...

Re: Diffuse Lighting - Surface scale

It's entirely possible that such a change has occurred, as Inkscape becomes more and better developed. I do seem to recall a Diffuse Lighting filter in older versions, which would have included more than just the Diffuse Lighting primitive . I'd have to have a look at the specific filter which is re...

Re: Inkscape modifying path while doing path > division

I'll still post the video, since it's already done. https://inkscapecommunity.com/jd/vids/en.mp4 I'm sure there's a keyboard shortcut for that command to join selected nodes with a new segment. See Help menu > Key and Mouse Reference. You might be able to select a few paths and nodes, and close a fe...

Re: Inkscape modifying path while doing path > division

@brynn Yes, only engraving, I have no plan in cutting with this machine. In that case, I would suggest trying Path menu > Cut Path. After that, you'll have to "manually" replace the hatch lines. It's not so hard to do. I was going to make a screenshot, but I think a video would be better....

Re: Inkscape modifying path while doing path > division

If you need to cut (engrave) on the hatch lines, then converting to pattern won't work. As far as I know, most cutters need a path to cut on. And converting to a pattern makes it....well, sort of a raster object, if not in fact, a raster object. So it sounds like you need actual paths. (No, it doesn...

Re: Problems with saving as pdf

Since it sounds like the main goal is to extract something from the PDF, I wonder if it's necessary to re-save as PDF. Does it somehow take the PDF of its directory, when you open it in Inkscape? So that if you don't save a new one, it should still be there as before. Or is the updated PDF more of a...

Well, adding extra nodes to either text or hatch lines had no effect. And I can reproduce the problem, with Windows 7, 64-bit and Inkscape 0.92.2 But let me ask, what is your goal with this? See my screenshot of the results, and notice the bounding boxes. Also you can see where I've pulled some of t...

I wonder if adding extra nodes to the text, before doing the division, would help? Just my first thought -- untested. Any chance of getting a test SVG file? (Too busy to make my own, at the moment.) Not right just yet, but maybe one of you has an idea on how to iterate on it. Basically, instead of trying to automate the swirls, I manually drew a few different types of swirls, and then copied them. With the right combination of layering, transparency, color, and [insert your suggestion here], i...
