Re: Vector Art Optimization Challenge #2

As far as I understand, only a few board here allow attachments. I can never remember which ones they are. But I remember some that aren't are this one, WIP and Completed Works.

Re: open clipart?

When I've searched for similar things on OCL, I usually can only find line art which has be auto-traced, meaning that it's not made of a single path. I suppose something like that could be added to Inkscape via extension. We have some guides for creating new extensions, if you already have some codi...

Re: Saving as SVG question

Yes and no. When you first opened Inkscape, you probably noticed a rectangle in the middle of the canvas? That's the page border. Depending on where and how you use the file/image, you may or may not see the space outside the page border. Some people like to keep helpful parts of the drawing there, ...

Re: Text object missing when SVG opened by other software

I wouldn't be too worried about Windows Explorer not displaying this or that. As a file manager, there are several SVG features which it will not display (and might never display). Filters are another example of something it won't display. But the browser problem can indeed be cleared up by not usin...

Re: Erasing

Not with the Eraser tool. If I understand what you're asking, here's how I would do it. 1 -- Draw the circle 2 -- Draw a long skinny rectangle, which will be used to create one of the missing lines. 3 -- Duplicate and move it downwards 4 -- Repeat 5 -- Select the circle and the top rectangle 6 -- Pa...

Re: Editing curved text that has been transformed to an object on a path

You can delete those text-paths, and just type new text with Inkscape. It looks like a relatively basic font, and you likely already have a similar one. Actually it looks like that whole logo could be made originally with Inkscape. You just need to find similar fonts (if you don't already have some).

Re: How to make a vector toolpath for laser cutting?

It looks like you must have used Trace Bitmap, right? The solution sounds simpler than it is. But I'll add a couple of steps to help. 1 -- Select it, then Path menu > Break Apart Everything will turn black - don't panic! 2 -- Hold the Shift key, and click on any color in the palette. This adds a str...

Re: Text Spacing Vertically

Possibly snapping to a grid. But you'd have to start with each letter as a text object. If it's only some specific text, possibly could use tiled clones. But if you need it to work with random text, cloning doens't make sense. It wouldn't be what kerning was made for, and kerning would not necessari...

Re: TEXT (Put on path) upside down

Do you mean that you want each letter to be upright? But still on a curved path?

I'm trying to reconcile this with your other message about vertical text. Are both messages trying to achieve the same thing, in different ways?

Re: TEXT (Put on path) upside down

Can you show us an example of what it looks like when the text is not bunched? I don't understand what you're asking. I want the text at the bottom to be curved facing upwards in the exact same way as the text at the top facing downwards so both are aligned. I don't understand how your examples are ...

I'm not clear what you're asking. "space text vertically while keeping the same space as with horizontally".... Do you mean that you want the word "down" in your example, so that each letter is like a stair step. Horizonal spacing the same, but each letter below the last? "w...

I suspect "scheme" is a miss or near-miss translation. What were you drawing in the file? I would not expect it with such a small file, but were you having any slowdowns or crashes?

Definitely set up auto save this time :)

Re: how change make line (shift +L)?

Are you talking about Edit menu > XML Editor? It sounds more like you're talking about the Inkscape canvas. Inkscape doesn't have a Shift + L shortcut, for drawing a line (for drawing anything). Instead, Inkscape draws paths. If you want to change some existing shortcut to Shift + L, you probably ca...

I have problems with eyestrain too. So I'll share what I've done. The thing which helps me absolutely the most, is to reduce the backlighting on your computer. If possible, turn it off. Re: Is it possible to adjust the width in the bezier curve?

It works for me with 0.92.2.

Changing the width doesn't do anything if you haven't pasted the pattern yet. Could you maybe not have pasted it yet?

Really would need to see your SVG file, to figure out where things are going wrong.

Yes, if you use text a lot in Inkscape, that bug would be a problem. It's not fixed yet.

Re: Video tutorial on how to make a sign

Curious why you're not using the current stable version (0.92)? For a beginner tutorial, I would have the canvas set up to View menu > Default. Rather that switch between the docked dialogs, I would open from either a menu, or a command bar button, so a beginner knows where to find them. Or else, ex...

I heard of people using Inkscape for sprite sheets, although that might be more for games.

If you mean you want the text along the path, but not resting on the line - it's easier than you might imagine. ....Well, there are probably other ways to do it, but this is how I would do it. Just make a path for wherever you want the text to be (like a duplicate of the first path, and move it upwa...

Re: Rearranging words and resizing the font and rearranging the whole text to fill as much as possible of a rectangle

I'm not understanding the question. Here, the width is obeyed: Here, the height is obeyed: How can I accomplish that? It looks like you did accomplish it. Are you saying that you want the text to be automatically adjusted for any given size of rectangle? This is a classic case of not having enough i...
