Re: Questions about gradients and (bucket Fill tool)

I agree with Moini, if you want precice mathematical overlapping of curves edges you're better of using Path operations ;)

Thank you Inkjames! I can think of some cases where this can come in very useful!

BTW you have a small typo in README: svd

Wow this looks awesome!

Do you have a transcript or at least a short list of steps you followed in the video? It would help to have that on top of the documentation inside the extension.

Re: Concept suggestions

Tiled clones can react with opacity and color, have you tried it? To make the drawing appear only inside the area of a path you can use Clipping: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Clip-Clipping.html or maybe you want to create a pattern out of the group: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/M...

Welcome to the forum!

I think the best tool for this is Create tiled clones...

Go over all the cases and you'll get a great sense of what it can do.

There are more approaches to this. I love DigiKam for photos, I've never tried it for SVGs. If you don't mind sharing with other people you can upload to openclipart https://openclipart.org/ You can create a library of symbols: Creating symbol libraries in Inkscape https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd...

Re: Bucket Fill Woes

Your object doesn't have a fill or stroke to start with (Unset doesn't provide information to Bucket about the edges it needs to calculate the area to color). If you set the stroke to the same color you see as Unset (black), Bucket will fill the area. Other than that make sure the Threshold and othe...

Re: Paint over a part of a shape (path)

Welcome to the forum! In vector drawings the most important concept are objects. Your drawing consists of many objects, some overlap, but the drawing isn't just one object that gets painted over. So to get the cheeks I would create a new object of the shape you want, and color it differently from yo...

Re: Overlapping strokes

Try looking at the bottom of this page http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/IsometricProjection.html This is a 3D box example that shows the same problem, and it seems to be the placement of the Rotation center. It should be in the middle of the stroke, not at the edge of the Bounding box. D...

Re: SVG 2 Standard Endangered! (Mesh gradients and more)

The Wiki page for Mesh Gradients encourages to use Alt + M as the shortcut. A lot of keyboard shortcut apps work like that, you select/activate the action/command/app you want to change a shortcut for, and then simply type the shortcut out on the keyboard. It will be recognized and saved as the new ...

Re: SVG file format: default vs. needed for text flowed into frame

If I'm not mistaken Ctrl + S is Save, and it does this in whatever format the file is already saved as, for example if you Save as PDF, and then do Ctrl + S it will open up the PDF popup you always see when saving as PDF. But when I saved as Plain and then added some guides, and then saved, they wer...

Re: SVG file format: default vs. needed for text flowed into frame

Flowing text into frames isn't yet in SVG spec, this is only an Inkscape feature for now, IIRC it may enter SVG2. So when saving as Plain SVG these objects get converted to a normal Text object. I expect them to remain in the same place though, but with hard line breaks. I haven't used Connectors fo...

Re: Opposite effect needed.

The colored background seems to be a raster image, I would first recreate it as a vector object (2 triangles with fill color). Do you need help with that? Then I would use the paths of the inner wheel with the triangles to do a Path operation of Intersection. You may need to duplicate some paths to ...

Re: Canvass vs. Document

Welcome to the forum :) Inkscape SVG remembers all the useful helper bits that aren't exactly part of the drawing, like grids, guides etc. Plain SVG stores the entire drawing, only without the helper bits. Since vector drawings are actually mathematical equations they are drawn across an infinite co...

Re: Rotating an object moves it

It could be that you've moved the center of rotation of that object outside of the object center, so it moves along a huge circle when you try to rotate. Or it's inside a group that can some transforms applied, is the object within a group? What happens when you copy the object into a new clean docu...

Re: Coordinate system in millimeters

In Inkscape you can set default units per document, I expect transforms and other relevant operations would follow that setting, although I haven't checked. There is probably a guideline in Inkscape programming how to handle units. You'll probably get an answer here, but just in case you don't try e...

Re: Improved performance for large number of nodes

Where exactly do you need 10000 nodes? Simply by looking at it doesn't seem like it would strain the system too much, there must be a huge number of objects, do you need such detail?

Have you tried working in outline mode? Ctrl + number 5 on numerical keyboard to switch between modes.

Here's Tav's update on the meshes in trunk (that is after the 0.92pre): https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/item/10241/ Nov 04 12:26:18 <Tavmjong> One thing we can do is to ship 0.92 with mesh gradients enabled. Clipping sees things in blank and white, either included or excluded.

If you want similar operation but the one that sees grayscale so you can have softer transitions, look into masking
