Re: Managing colours in palette or swatch question

I fully agree with you that the manual can be hard to digest :) We're currently working on a new, official, beginner level guide here: http://write.flossmanuals.net/start-with-inkscape/_draft/ - I think it mentions palettes, too. If you happen to read it (it's intended for /very/ new users, though),...

Re: Managing colours in palette or swatch question

I agree that many parts of the UI can be improved. Your ideas for improvement (e.g. mockups of dialogs) would be very welcome, indeed. As a general rule, though, official resources, such as the manual [1], [2], [3], or the FAQ [4] on the website, are usually more correct than videos made by people w...

Re: filters in progress

Seems I ended up in the wrong tab. You asked a question about scanning for malicious files somewhere, brynn.
Ah, I was on page 1 of this thread, and thought it was the last one.

Re: filters in progress

@brynn: that would just be common sense - any file you download can be malicious. There is no such thing as a safe file, that comes from an unknown source in the internet. The only thing that helps is keep the software on your PC up-to-date. Virus scanners are mostly for 'feeling safe' - if there's ...

Re: Managing colours in palette or swatch question

You can save as *.gpl - this saves all colors used in the document - but not as a swatch, just as a standard palette (colors are not linked). It's also possible to save swatches in a template file for re-using that file as a starting point.

You could have a look at this list and try some of them out. Re: Blend not working

The manual is still the most current official source, and it's still good for most things. But there are many other options. I can recommend: - the tutorials that come with Inkscape (Help -> Tutorials) - Xav's series in the full circle magazine: http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1...

Re: filters in progress

Just discovered Ctrl+Alt+Shift+drag for rotating gradients by 90°... None of the shortcuts I found does restrict the gradient's length, though.
How did you apply the gradients so exactly?

Re: How can I reduce the colors of a drawing?

Inkscape cannot export in CMYK, you will need to use Scribus or another method of file (colorspace) conversion.

Re: Failed to load the requested file

To prevent such a loss in the future, be sure to activate autosave (Edit -> Preferences -> Input/Output -> Autosave). Btw. there's a newer Inkscape version available that fixes a couple of bugs of the version you are using atm.

Re: How can I reduce the colors of a drawing?

Are those different colors applied to the T-Shirt by ironing on cut-out pieces? Then you won't get far with any half-tone dot patterns, because the parts need to be of a certain size.

What exactly does your print service say?

Perhaps you want to learn about Tracing Bitmaps. If that's what you mean, go to the Menu: Help -> Tutorials -> Tracing Bitmaps.

Re: Plug in for drawing gradient handles

When you have written such an extension, would you perhaps share it on the Inkscape website? It would be put here: https://inkscape.org/en/download/addons/ when you upload it within the 'Extensions' category.

The feature request would have been to not create a group when it's just a single letter (it wouldn't be needed).

Re: Plug in for drawing gradient handles

Probably there was one point of info missing, judging from your post to the mailing list (btw. the Inkscape source code lives at https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/). You can access the SVG's source code from inside the extensions. In the source code, the handles' coordinates are set as attributes...

Re: How to break apart a text object?

If you ever need some nice cliparts, you can also browse openclipart.org, a website that was created by people who also were contributors to Inkscape. It provides > 120000 public domain svg images for download and for learning by taking them apart.

Re: How to break apart a text object?

Oh, I see. The issue you have is with it creating a group of letters. This is for the user's convenience. If you do Object to path with a text, it creates one object per letter, and groups all letters of the text, so it's easier to handle that bunch of letters. One might argue that grouping isn't ne...

Re: path/image problem

Here's a bug report where someone says that closing and reopening the Inkscape instance that you copy to does fix it (as a workaround):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1125631

here's another one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1480686 (without workaround), probably a duplicate?

Re: How to break apart a text object?

Try Path -> Object to Path again. Make sure you have the exclamation mark selected. Also take a look into the status bar, to see what Inkscape has to say as to why it doesn't work. If this doesn't help, upload the file, so people can have a look.

Re: Plug in for drawing gradient handles

You can make a feature request (sounds like it might be useful to some) here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape, but if you need fast results, and know some python, read the SVG source or use the XML editor to determine how gradient handle positions are set, and then write a function that draws th...
