Re: Saving under wrong file name

It's not going to restore anything that was lost, but it might provide a fix for your obscure problem - I think it's worth a try. Meanwhile, make a backup of your files, if you worry about losing their content. Yes, unstalling first is recommended on Windows. Not doing so may result in a broken Pyth...

I'd like that. I know you'd produce great quality content-wise, and I'm sure it would be useful for a lot of people.

... and don't worry, there's going to be a skull in the next Inkscape version... for the most dangerous setting. Which is default... (WTF?) (This was sarcasm...)

Please also upload a screenshot of your text tool controls bar with the text selected. Then we can tell you which buttons to click on.

That with the film version is a joke, right? Or are you planning on turning these into videos?

Re: Saving under wrong file name

Aha. I think there was an issue with Inkscape crashing on close in some version ... on Windows. Which might create a backup file.

Can you update to Inkscape 0.92.3 (uninstall, then install latest version from https://inkscape.org/releases) and see if the issue persists?

Never happened to me, but that doesn't mean it can't happen to you. Can you provide some more details, like, Inkscape version, operating system, file names etc.?

Re: Border only towards the outside

Linux Mint 18 only provides an older version of Inkscape by default. But you can use the ppa instead:

Re: Delete objects outside page (not clipping)

There are several options for this: If you do not need to cut any paths, because objects are either outside or inside the page area: 1. Drag a selection frame around the objects for each side and hit Del (so, 4 times) 2. Use the eraser tool in object deletion mode and just drag the mouse around. 3. ...

Re: Requesting Help for procedure to load plotter driver

There's no way around it, you need to find out the brand (even if no-name) of the plotter, and then find out which languages it will understand. There will be a serial number or a name somewhere on it.

Re: Requesting Help for procedure to load plotter driver

Which plotter?
What file formats does it understand?
Does it eat files, or do you need to 'print' to it?

Re: Box with spot for a magnet

I think the poster is asking about specific settings for his or her CNC machine - i.e. how does the SVG path need to be styled, so that the CNC machine does not cut, but just take away some material. The answer is, this depends on your machine, and how it wants the data to be formed. You need to loo...

Re: Cannot draw solid line at first

Better don't use 'unset'. To change: Make a line. Select it. Hold Shift. Click on the black square in the palette at the bottom. Double-click on Bézier tool icon. Click on 'Take from selection'. Now you'll always get a black stroke when you use the Pen tool. This is different from 'unset', which mea...

Re: Having trouble cutting my drawing ...

Hey Bob, grouping is quite useful for drawings that consist of lots of objects - and many files that one downloads from the internet (or when you import from pdf, for example) already contain groups. For fastest ungrouping, do Extensions > Arrange > Deep ungroup.

It's the same underlying issue, as far as I understand, yes. Are you able to change the pasteboard settings in your installation?

Re: Having trouble cutting my drawing ...

Or share the drawing. I suspect there's some kind of grouping getting in the way. The eraser might not work as expected, then.

Re: Vector lines exporting to PDF thicker than .001

If this is the same as:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1174909 ,
it's going to be solved when cairo is updated on your computer. It requires at least version 1.15.10.
If you're on Windows, there may be Inkscape files available for you.

Re: Having trouble cutting my drawing ...

Click and drag to select multiple paths. You need to hold Shift if there's something below the mouse where you want to start dragging your frame. Or: Hold Alt and drag over the paths you want to select. Or: Hold Shift and click on all paths you want to select Or, if things are in a group, but you wa...

Re: how to keep raster quality/detail when scaling down?

Brynn, in Inkscape, if you use the handles to scale a raster image, it just makes it look smaller, it keeps all image data points. Inkscape does not edit raster images. This is in concordance with your observations in the XML editor.
