Re: Printing to 100% scale

Then you're out of luck. In Inkscape, vector graphics can be scaled losslessly. It will always look sharp, regardless of the zoom level (unless you're talking about embedded raster images, e.g. photos). You can export at any resolution you like to png. And you can print that png at any resolution yo...

Re: Changing Text Selection Color

Seems it's the same over all OSs, and I know there's no setting for it - from which I conclude that it's hard-coded, and does not depend on your desktop theme. So, no. You cannot change it, unless you compile Inkscape yourself and know where to find that color (from the source code, I thought it mus...

Re: Inkscape freezing, rasterization issue?

Yes, a pattern is only saved once in the file and then reused. I think it's also going to be faster to render, because it's optimized for repeating contents, but not sure.

Re: Open file, run Extension, close inkscape from command line

Yes, that's possible.

See https://inkscape.org/doc/inkscape-man.html, explicitly the example with the verb:

inkscape dateiname.svg --verb=EditDuplicate --verb=FileClose

For the verb, use the 'noprefs' version of the one for the extension.

What color is it for you? For me it's some kind of muddy light-green.

I'm not sure it has to do with preferences, but here you are:
(sorry, renamed its extension to svg... it's a normal preferences.xml, though)

Re: Inkscape freezing, rasterization issue?

If you want to make it a pattern, use a pattern for it: Object > Pattern > Object to Pattern. Or resize the picture before you use it, if the large size isn't necessary (printing this on normal paper with 300dpi would give you a printout of about half a meter per picture (and you even repeat them).

Re: Export Cancel Button

It's a common problem, and I think was supposed to be fixed for the next major version. Just tried it out, though, and I get 1. A see-through dialog with 'Export in progress' 2. After a while, a non-reactive Cancel button. So maybe it makes sense to remind devs of this not working (yet). You can bro...

Yes, not for all verbs, as far as I know, but for many. It's a shortcoming that devs want to work on.

I don't know anything about this, but would maybe the polyline option do what the name implies? I think it would be worth a try.

Re: Examples for Inkscape command line usage wanted

Hi thorwil, this is interesting, thank you! Did you know that the Inkscape command line can give you object sizes, and can also show/hide layers? Extending Inkscape for jpg and other graphics formats would be (and actually is) easy enough. However, developers have decided to not give people a lossy ...

Re: Alpha Channel vs. Opacity

Alpha is a property of the color. So, fill and stroke can have different alpha values.

Opacity is a property of the object. The whole object (a group, a circle, a path) has the same opacity value.

Re: Find features smaller than a certain size

:) I'd make these options available: select by area yes/no (checkbox) max. area size select by length yes/no (checkbox) max. length consider subpaths as separate objects delete (this is useful for the subpaths option, will keep the rest of the path intact) select only (subpaths are ignored or maybe ...

Re: Find features smaller than a certain size

Sorry, I don't know of any such extension. I'm also probably not creating any new ones for Inkscape < 1.0, and I won't create extensions for 1.0 before I know how to do it, and before the API is stable.

Re: Black Backround when set to desktop backround only

Export to Bitmap was renamed to Export to PNG to make that clearer.

To get a white background, draw a white rectangle and put it below the letters.

For exporting to PNG, use File > Export to PNG. Then you have a nice raster image that you can use as your desktop background.
