Re: bezier curves with ellipse shape - bug?

Yes, it looks right to me with Inkscape 0.91, and wrong with 0.92.2. I did a quick search through the bug reports, and couldn't find this issue.

Would you take another look, and open a new report at https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/ if you also cannot find one?

Re: Recovering a Path Stroke

You can use the 'objects' dialog and look for your circle there (Object > Objects) or you can switch to outline mode (View -> Display Mode -> Outline)

Re: open clipart?

Try http://openclipart.org/ to search for public domain SVG-based clipart that you can reuse and take apart with Inkscape.

Re: Vector Art Optimization Challenge #2

You can still remove " paint-order="fill markers stroke" " and the 'overflow: hidden' as well as the style attribute from the last one (currently, doesn't load due to OCAL having issues).

Re: Align tools on components of a group

Not that I know of. I'd have had a use for that often, too. You could align a duplicate of the subcomponent alone, and keep the group where the subcomponent is in untouched, then move the group to the new position using snapping and delete the duplicate subcomponent that you used for alignment. Let ...

@Xav: thanks for checking - unfortunately, then, something else must be wrong. The second tab ('Attachments') that is usually there when using 'Full Editor & Preview' is not available for me here (while it is for the Help section) ... :-/

Re: Vector Art Optimization Challenge #2

Do you want to keep the arcs / number of objects? Or is only the rendering relevant?

Re: Cutting characters into slices

I have tried creating text, using Path > Object to Path on the text, then laying rectangles over the text and using the Path > Difference, but nothing happens.

You need to ungroup the converted text first. It consists of a group of several letters.

Yeah, then you're out of options. Did you try the correct verb?

Re: Python script to crop SVG to bounding box?

(but it will probably still need the GUI - however, if you want to do this for multiple files, you can use the interactive Inkscape console. That'll make it faster.)

There should be a 'verb' available in the verb list for this. Please look for it there.

If it happens again, please make a bug report. This is not supposed to be happening, and it's a rather nasty issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape

Re: TEXT (Put on path) upside down

The difference is not as big as you think, because what 'counts' is the bottom left border of the text. And you need to take the letters' angles into account. They bend into different directions. You will need to make manual adjustments. Inkscape isn't good at guessing its user's intentions, it just ...

Re: TEXT (Put on path) upside down

It only works on paths, circles cannot be reversed. You'd need to do Path -> Convert to Path first.

Re: TEXT (Put on path) upside down

How about changing the letter distances to spread the letters a little wider, then? See text tool's tool controls.
