Re: The requested file failed to load. Please help me save several days work!

Inkscape has got more stable over the years, but can still crash more regularly than I would like. When working on comics the first thing I do at the start of each editing 'session' is "Save as..." and give the file a new name (I just use an incrementing suffix at the end of the name). If ...

So that Moini's reply might still be useful to someone, here's the link-free post that was originally in this topic: I'm using a mouse and not a tablet so my go-to method of drawing lines is to draw a path then smooth it/push it into place w...

Thanks. We are still drawing The Greys - but very, very slowly! Most of our comic creating time is spent on our 'Elvie' comic strip, which appears in Linux Pro magazine, and makes us enough money to keep the lights on at the website.

I've merged this topic with the original. Please can you refrain from posting duplicate messages (as a new user your posts need to be manually approved before they go live, and there are only a few moderators on the board so it can take a while), and opening duplicate topics - it won't get you any m...

Re: The requested file failed to load. Please help me save several days work!

Bad news, I'm afraid. The file you uploaded contains no data, just null bytes (i.e. every byte in it is set to zero). You can try looking at the Inkscape preferences (Ctrl-Shift-P). Go to Input/Output > Autosave and see if autosave is enabled (it usually is by default), then check the directory it's...

Re: Help needed - Round Join stroke style only applying to 3 of 4 corners

My immediate guess is that you have an unclosed path with two nodes overlapping, and the cap set to Square. Select the object and check the status line to confirm if it's a path. If so, switch to the :tool_node: tool and rubber-band select over the top left corner - the status bar will likely tell y...

Re: Export Bitmap missing from Mac

The two menu entries are the same thing - it was renamed to 'Export to PNG' to make it clearer that the exported file is a PNG image, not any other kind of bitmap image (and certainly not a 'bmp' image, that many people think of when you say 'bitmap'). In practice Inkscape has only ever been able to...

Re: How to change location of text on a video

We need more information about what exactly you're doing. Obvious things include:

* What video editor are you using
* How are you exporting the text from Inkscape? As a PNG, or something else?
* What export settings are you using?
* Your operating system and version of Inkscape would be useful, too.

You could also try the Filters > Shadows and Glows > Drop Shadow... filter. The name is a little misleading, as this can be used for more than just drop shadows. Within the dialog is a "Shadow type" pop-up, which includes "Outer" and "Outer cutout" - one of which might ...

Re: Inkscape opens blank file, Firefox opens OK

It looks like Photopea has created a rather odd SVG file that will only work in recent web browsers. * The content consists of two raster images embedded into the document. * There is no vector content. * The images are then exposed via a "shadow-root". This is a way of encapsulating conte...

That's a nice bug report: to the point, with enough information to reproduce and links to relevant info. Thanks for submitting it, hopefully a dev will be equally impressed enough to take a look at it.

Re: Path Linked Offset - Unexpected Result

Upper/lower case in path syntax has different meanings: one is for absolute coordinates, the other for relative. So it doesn't necessarily mean different developers, it could just depend on the rest of the path (e.g. absolute for everything vs. an absolute start point then relative for the rest). I ...

Re: Path Linked Offset - Unexpected Result

Ah, the first path definition contains 'a' values - elliptical arcs. The second has them converted to Bezier curves ('c' values). The first one is more correct for a circle, but as soon as it's no longer a circle elliptical arcs won't do the job. That explains why moving a node converts to Beziers. ...

Re: Path Linked Offset - Unexpected Result

I would argue that it is a bug, given that an effectively null edit gets it back under control. Either it's incorrect without that edit, or it's actually correct behaviour and the edit breaks it: either way it's not right. The bug tracker has moved to GitLab these days, so if you haven't reported an...

Re: Path Linked Offset - Unexpected Result

The reasons escape me - but I would guess that there's some kind of internal re-parsing of the path data when the node positions change which puts the data into a structure or format more suited to the linked path operation. FWIW, no need to mess around with guides. Just select a node and use the ar...

Re: Path Linked Offset - Unexpected Result

Interestingly applying path reverse to the bottom right object, as is, before creating a linked offset cures the problem... but surely it is a single closed path, so reversing it should make no difference to the linked offset? Imagine yourself walking round the path in one direction, starting with ...

Re: Path Linked Offset - Unexpected Result

For the difference of circles you can achieve what you want like this: 1) Perform the Path > Difference as before 2) Switch to the Node editor (double click on the shape you've created) and you should see eight nodes, forming two sub-paths. 3) Select all four nodes in one of the subpaths (easy way: ...

Re: Absolutely INFURIATING LINE HEIGHT & FLOW INTO FRAME GLITCH

FWIW, as a pretty competent Inkscape user, I do consider the line spacing controls in recent releases to be a bug. It may not technically be broken, but it's also not clear and user-friendly, which I would say is a UI bug. I work with text in Inkscape all the time, and still find the operation of th...

Re: Fonts in SVG on the web

In general you shouldn't lay out text by positioning it using the space bar, but especially not for use on the web. In the HTML world the browser is free to collapse spaces as it sees fit, so this kind of layout doesn't generally work. You can add a 'white-space: pre' CSS rule to force the spaces to...

Re: XML parsing help

Hmm... this isn't SVG code, or particularly Inkscape related - and this isn't a C# forum. I very nearly disapproved this post as spam (had there been URLs in the code I would have).

You might have more luck asking this in a C# forum - though you may find that some kind soul replies on here anyway.
