Re: filters in progress

Thank you!

Eosing glazing is pricey, yet the same gloss can be seen on small bugs as well.
Will have to look at more reference images next time for a more specific effect.

Re: Scaled documents

Hi. As far as I understand there is a unit in which the coordinates are stored and there is a display unit on top of it (achieved by a viewbox). Meaning, most likely the coordinates are represented in px values, and with the recent upgrades mm got to be the default display unit. That was meant to so...

Re: filters in progress

Fixed.

Diffuse filter pack, although this one uses one light direction instead of the original four.

Re: [solved] Window with transparency and blurred background

Nice find! Started my own " cookbook " before but got stuck a bit with it (lack of motivation, so to speak). There are alot of things you can achieve by filtering. Some examples: stormy waves , clouds , frost , wood textures , halftone effects , animations , etc. My repository of custom sv...

You are welcome!

In the mean time, check out Xav's tutorial series covering filter editing in inkscape as seen in the full circle magazine:

Re: Window with transparency and blurred background

Hi.

You need to use the background image as the input for the filter.
In the attached image it works fine.

Re: filters in progress

Thank's for the tip! Don't think it would improve the rendering speed though. If anything, decreasing the number of decimals may have a very small effect. Mostly it's the turbulence and the displacement map that is slowing down the animation. Also the rendered area is related as a smaller image rend...

Re: InksCape SVG as standard?

Hi. Svg is developed by a working group of w3c. If you look at the member list , you can see inkscape is only represented by 1 developer - Tavmjong Bah-, therefore the core spec is not about developing the standard following inkscape's special features. Those features are for example: support of lay...

Re: stroke to path with crossing lines - can't get it to do what I want

OK, here is one with the mentioned overlapping structure -each part was drawn with strokes and no fill, so the width can be adjusted later on.

Re: stroke to path with crossing lines - can't get it to do what I want

Rendering knots/z-order loops is always tricky. Personally I never used the knot lpe for that. Depending on your final output making separate "weaves" may need a different structure. Like, will there be a stroke and a fill in the output, are there going to be cast shadows etc. The knot pat...

Re: Automatically generate variations on a group

Dispersing gas cloud animation with filters? Oh well. Only chrome/cromium renders smil animated svg-s, and without any consistency. The smaller size helps speeding it up/reducing the lagging, but still. Probably it wouldn't be fluent when recorded with a screen capturer for making a gif double. Gues...

Re: Need some hired help

If you don't have the time to edit it yourself, why not asking svg files from the designer as deliverables?
Svg is an open format, illustrator can save to it and you wouldn't have to deal with the pdf's messy structure.

Re: Rectangle trapezium

The certain thing is from the original post that it is having a base, a height -so a parallel side- and oblique sides at a given angle.
By that I made the gif with the assumption it is an isosceles although it could also be a parallelogram (if both oblique sides have the same inclination).

Re: How do I make .ai files work in Inkscape?

Maybe the ai file wasn't saved with the pdf embedded?
(According to the save options provided with illustrator, you can save ai files without a pdf double embedded inside -which is the only part inkscape can open since the other part is a proprietary format)

Re: Rectangle trapezium

Draw a rectangle, set height/width in the spinboxes according to the measures. Enable snapping to cusp nodes and path segment intersections, pull vertical guide lines from the ruler and snap them to the base's ends. Double click each guide line to set the angle you like, and use the pen tool to draw...

Made two more hatched-halftone animations.
Renders best in chrome.

The latter only animates the halftone pattern. Can't help the flickering of the rendering.

Re: seeking 3d drawing program - off topic - but don't know where else to ask

With blender you can unwrap 3D models but it's an illustration tool, like 3dsmax and not a cad program -saving drafts is not the program's focus, though might worth looking at custom addons. As far as I can remember it has an addon directed to making papercut models.
