Re: Fill bounded area not doing a good job

I think a lot of people would rather wait for 3s and get precise filling thant get an instant imprecise unusable result.
Boolean cutting algorithm should be the default and we should swap to bitmap algorithm only if there are "too many" intersecting objects

Re: Exporting PNG faded lines

Maybe it's a bug in the renderer but most probably This is because of pixel being on a boundary. If your dark shape starts at y=100 and the border is 1px (or any odd or non inteneger number) wide then the renderer needs to draw 50% of this pixel at 99 and 50% at 100. The same goes for a filled objec...

Re: Preferences > Bitmaps... Are these options explained somewhere?

Strange. it works on ubuntu. And I guess it gives the full path of the file to the external editor so I see no reason why it would work on ubuntu and not in windows. Is this some special mountpoint ? (or classical c:\...) Was there some space (or special character) in the path ?

if you look carefully you see they cheat [*] when cutting the pieces : they dropped the pink tint that you should see through the wave * : in fact this not cheating because there's no solution to mix a vertical and horizontal gradient. There would be a solution which would be compositing the gradien...

Re: How to install Autotrace on a windows system

if you copy the files in c:\program files (x86)\autotrace then you should add c:\program files (x86)\autotrace in your path

see
https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000549.htm
to add an entry into your path.

Don't forget you need a ";" to separate 2 items

I'm afraid there's not much to be saved. The file ends abruptly in the middle of a large image.
Before that there are some definitions of rect and layers but not more.

Host it at dropbox or your favorite host, I'll have a look at it. How large is it ? When you open it with wordpad does it start with "<?xml version="1.0" ? [good] Does it have non printable (=garbage) when viewed in wordpad ? [not good] Check your settings in Edit > Preferences > Inpu...

In gimp you could try the following to clean up the image : gauusian blur then theeshold then enhancing contrast. Or repeat n times dilatation + dilatation + erosion

Nice but

The beard/hair can not be seen because of the background color
The left arm looks strange (like if a part is missing)
The left hand doesn't follow the wood.
You should make the orb transparent

Explanation of the hairspray filter.
3 horizontal starts = 3 samples of the effect depending on the "strength" applied on current stage
It's not quite visible on the image but morphology transform tiny dots into bigger dots

Re: How to create an noise/dissolve effect

Here is a svg with my filters they are close to the filters in filters/spread like filter/spread/hairspray.

For most of them you can tweak their radius by opening the filter editor and changing the gaussian blur value

Re: Can I get a new manual in pdf form?

I don't think there is an "official" manual for inkscape. How is your hard copy entitled ? Classical manuals include Inkscape, A Guide to a Vector Drawing Program, 4th Edition By Tavmjong Bah that you can by or which is available at http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/index.php or...

Re: Pixel Art in Inkscape

It looks like OP is pushing pixels. That is the true spirit of pixel art and it's fine (as long as it's in a bitmap editor). But doing so in a vector editor is "inefficient". Except if you want to do it for the "beauté du geste". If you want to do it in a vector way then you woul...

Re: Pixel Art in Inkscape

If he ends up by exporting its vector to png to edit it in gimp, I don't see any practical reason why not to start it in gimp from the very start. Except if he's better at inkscape or inkscape has some tools (I don't know of) that pixel pushers can't find in gimp. IMO (layers of) bitmaps would be a ...
