Making hexagonal honeycomb lattice

I'm trying to make a honeycomb lattice. I tried following both versions of the instructions here but I end up with overlapping. How do I achieve the lattice? I don't know how to predict the result of the values entered into the tiled cloning interface.

Why isn't pressing HOME always enough to get layer to top?

Sometimes it is not enough to move a layer to the top of the stack by pressing HOME and I have to move an offending layer down as well. Why is this?

Change colours of fill pattern

I used the fill pattern "checkerboard" but it's black and white and I want different colours. Is there a means to change the colours? I want multiple checkerboard patterned objects in different combinations of colours. I'd rather not have to make my own pattern because that completely defe...

Creating a second set of tiled clones deletes the first set?

Creating a second set of tiled clones deletes the first set? Is that deliberate? It doesn't seem like a useful "feature" to me. I wanted to make two sets of tiled clones from one parent.

How to view multiple tool windows at the same time?

I used to be able to have multiple tool windows (e.g. align, objects, layers) open at the same time. Right now, I can only open one and when I do so, it collapses the previous. Dragging the bunch down just adds a load of wasted space to the bottom of the list. How do I get them to share that right h...

In version 0.91.2 it's at Object > Objects.

Re: Replace multiple objects

Thanks. Unfortunately, although those unique names enabled me to identify the code that define one of these objects, it's also going to prevent me from using the find and replace feature. This is way too complicated. This method should be quicker (uses "exchange positions of selected objects&qu...

Re: Fill bounded area not doing a good job

Thanks, I did read that elsewhere but I don't see why it can't "zoom in" internally; the program is doing mathematics under the hood so it seems pretty silly that I have to manually zoom in to help it somehow. Even when I do zoom in, that only reduces the problem and doesn't eliminate it l...

Re: Replace multiple objects

Is there a solution to this yet? I also thought of editing the SVG in a text editor but will have the same problem. It would be nice if you had some sort of hybrid program where you could select an object in the GUI and it would highlight the relevant code.

How to separate shapes made by Boolean difference so I can colour them separately?

I created these shapes using the difference Boolean operation. I'd like to fill their colours separately but two of them take the same colour together. I've already applied the ungroup and break apart operations, to no effect. Thanks.

Fill bounded area not doing a good job

The "fill bounded area" tool is a great idea but does a pretty poor job in practice. Is there any way to make it perform better? If I was doing this myself, I'd convert the objects and strokes to paths and then do Boolean difference and changes the colours of the resulting sections. Why ca...

Keyboard shortcut layout

Does anyone know where there is a more up-to-date version of this layout of keyboard shortcuts? I think a better layout, at least for my intentions, would exclude the normal key characters to save space and would be split into three to show the plain as well as the Ctrl + and Shift + variations http...

Re: Printing keyboard shortcut icons onto silicone keyboard cover?

Yeah, I want to put the cover on top of the keys. I won't be typing with the cover on; I'll remove it when I'm not using Inkscape. I do intend to put the labels on the inside of the silicone so they will be protected. I guess that early cellphone buttons were harder to press anyway but I don't antic...

Re: Help selecting a Boolean operation

Thanks but how do I convert to filled outlines? Is that different from converting to paths? If I convert to paths and then combine, the centre circle becomes hollow/unfilled so I guess that converting to filled outlines is different to converting to paths?

In the below screenshot, there's a bitmap image of a circle cut into eight sections. I'd like to cut my black circle into eight similar sections with spacing between them. What is the correct operation to achieve this? Thanks.

Re: Inkscape refuses to perform Boolean operation even though both components are paths

Thanks; you're right. For soem reason it was resistant to becoming a path. I don't understand why it took multiple attempts to turn it into a path.

Inkscape refuses to perform Boolean operation even though both components are paths [SOLVED]

Here I'm trying to replicate the bisected red square that you see going off the screen in the upper left. I have a red rounded square underneath a white shape and I'm trying to use the CUT PATH function. Inkscape rejects the operation, claiming that one of the objects is not a path but they quite bl...

Printing keyboard shortcut icons onto silicone keyboard cover?

A lot of programs I use have handy keyboard shortcuts but I use so many different programs that I just can't remember the majority of the shortcuts. My favourite solution would be one of those $2000 USD Optimus Maximum keyboards with an OLED display inside each key which changes depending on what pr...
