Re: CNC Routing of Bitmap Image

@Micromet The reason I asked about Linux is because it helps me understand where you are coming from. I'm a Linux and Windows user myself. I was using Inkscape to export my laser gcode for a while but I wasn't too crazy about gcodetools. I was using a simpler derivative of it specifically for laser ...

Re: CNC Routing of Bitmap Image

Why do you need to export out of blender to a dxf file? Just curious. Are you using Linux? I guess I look at things a little differently. How does the saying go...if all you have is a hammer then everything looks like a nail? I love Inkscape. It's handy. I use it often. However, I'm not bashful abou...

Re: CNC Routing of Bitmap Image

Hi Brynn, I will follow your advice and ask the Gcodetools forum for help with this. But I've just seen a Youtube video where a complex University Shield photo was converted into a bitmap trace in Inkscape, exported as an SVG file and imported into Blender where the image was converted into an extr...

Re: CNC Routing of Bitmap Image

Off Topic heathenx, how did you draw that? Coincidentally, I'm writing a tutorial about converting raster images to vector, to prepare them for cutting or etching or engraving, or whatever. I want to show the end result, which would be something like that image you made. But I don't have that kind ...

Re: DXF export am I doing it wrong?

There is nothing wrong with doing a bitmap trace on your artwork. As a matter of fact, I do it often when I laser and cnc cut items. This actually saves time, in my opinion. One can be a little lazy about slapping some artwork together. Only takes a few seconds to trace and maybe a few more to clean...

Re: CAD

I'd like to chime in on this post. I use Inventor everyday and Inkscape a few times a week. I can't for the life of me think why someone would want to draw that image in CAD, on the other hand, I've used plenty of software for odd things. No judging here. The image that you posted can easily be crea...

Re: Opening .eps in Inkscape?!

You can grab ghostscript from sourceforge but maybe a mac binary would be easier. Quick google search:http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/9980/gpl-ghostscript

After you have that you'll need to open scribus and point it to your ghostscript directory...then you should be good to go.

Re: Opening .eps in Inkscape?!

Install Scribus. Drag-n-drop your eps file onto your Scribus desktop icon. In Scribus export as svg. Open that in Inkscape. Do cartwheels.

Re: DXF import issue

Same problem here, however, most of the time it works. In Inventor I usually just highlight a face in model mode and "Export Face As" a release 2000 dxf. When it doesn't work, I use the free DraftSight as a bridge. You can open the dxf in DraftSight and export as an svg file. That opens ju...

Have you tried drawing/snapping to the grid and looking at the size of your object? You don't need the measurement tool for that.

Re: Using Inkscape for model airplane plans

Wow that is cutting pretty accurately! I am using a Sizzix eclips which uses roland blades to cut. I didn't realize that low a wattage laser would cut balsa. I wonder if there would be a way to incorporate that lazer with the Sizzix blade holder. That might work better than the blade. I have to put...

Re: Using Inkscape for model airplane plans

Interesting. I just did this a week or two ago. I have a 2w laser diode attached to my 3D printer. I traced a business card balsa glider picture that I found on the net and cut one out for myself. Fun.

Re: How to pixel-perfect slice a JPG for a website?

The OP might be looking for something a bit more advanced than what I showed in that video. Inkscape has a great web page slicer extension (when it worked). This is the kind of stuff I wish the devs would either remove or get working across all platforms again. Perhaps it will be fixed in v.0.49. Th...

Well done, Xav. Perhaps if we ever get the devs to finish the lattice deformation LPE then it might be another possibility.

@inkydinkydo
You might want to check out another tutorial of mine, episode 060 (http://screencasters.heathenx.org/episode-060). In it I illustrate how to node sculpt.

And, what if the lighting set/material could be changed on that rim after each part is drawn with a mesh, as easy as selecting a gradient from the dropdown list? Wouldn't that be a nice feature? I suppose it would. :) One thing that I would REALLY like is the ability to drop a new mesh node whereve...

Re: shaped words inside shaped shapes

I sort of covered this in one of my videos, episode 088 (http://screencasters.heathenx.org/episode-088). I used the Bezier Envelope 2010 extension to make it work. It only takes a few minutes to squish that text into a circle. Bezier Envelope only works with 4 nodes, no more, no less. Basically you ...

Perhaps it`s just me, but when I apply Envelope on combined shape - Inkscape freezes?! That`s why I`m thankful for this new one. It's not just you. This as well as the Perspective effect have been an issue on the Windows versions for a very long time...years in fact. Fortunately for me, the Linux v...
