Re: My new logo design (C&C Welcome)

I`m also with RobA`s suggestions. There are two things which I would point out. Using three different fonts in logo could be too much and it is usually not advisable. The other one is my doubts about script font as a proper illustration/representation of your business. RobA`s intervention kind of tu...

Re: Open path / pen tool

BIG DISCLAIMER  Fortunately, I`ve read again your question about Pen control bar... and then looked at the right direction. At first I thought you were asking about settings, but what caused all of this was activation of Spiro path in Pen control bar. Most probably accidental, since I`ve used ...

Re: Open path / pen tool

Oh, well.... apparently I took a few steps more than needed ,) I was sure it is like you said - pen tool produces paths, but recently I installed Gpick /color picker which uses some GTK+ libraries (and some more) when I noticed this change. Some additional .ddl`s were needed and some of those are re...

careless user *Open path / pen tool

I`m not sure how to treat this behavior but sometimes it makes pretty much trouble to me. When I draw closed path with pen tool :tool_pen: (meaning: last click is on the starting point), in order to change curvature of lines/segments between nodes I have to convert that certain shape into the paths....

a bit delayed Hello! ,)

Hello! I`ve skipped introduction at the beginning but feel like it is part of Netiquette. I`m animator, illustrator and designer (order depends of task,) and for some time I`m using Inkscape whenever vectors are included. I find it most comfortable for my workflow, and reason to use another tool or ...

Re: This brain's looking for feedback and constructive criti

You`re welcome. It looks much better now. Personally, I would enhance a contrast for a bit. Difference among volumes is noticeable but maybe not just as it could be for a complete eye-pleasured sight ,) Also, I`ve noticed that some blurred portions are going outside of the main outline. You could ma...

I`m not quite sure where are those shadings that you have mentioned? Except for color, previous version was more descriptive, illustrative... but now it`s kind of flattened? I believe my monitor is calibrated, but maybe it`s not ,) Also, I`m not exactly sure how you did this illustration, but with b...

Re: My first Logo; a cube-shaped earth. Need critics ...

^ I think I know about that topic, but forum search was not quite helpful in finding it. Still, there is a lot of tips or tutorials on the web about "serving" the logo, but not so many about actual "cooking" or "choosing needed ingredients" for the logo. Referring to di...

I took a part in that confusion also, by forgetting not less usual as well basic meaning of the word "tracing".

Re: My first Logo; a cube-shaped earth. Need critics ...

There are no magical shortcuts, magic wands or similar tools for making a good logo design. With this said, if your logo does not look nice when you draw it with pencil on plain paper... then something needs to be improved. I would prefer not to sound like some design guru or anything similar, but t...

Re: My first Logo; a cube-shaped earth. Need critics ...

Whole thing with cubes and cubed Earth looks nice, but it would not be a go for a logo (almost rhymes,) While making logo you always have to think about down scaling and pretty much about logo`s appearance in two colors. I.e. take a look at this image on screen and then take a look on icons on your ...

Re: map graphics -- is Inkscape good for this?

It most certainly depends on how you visualize map output and what type of image format you need as the result. Also, I`m not quite sure if I understood correctly explanation of your workflow. What does it mean: "...then manually tracing the portions of the map..." Usually, tracing refers ...

Hope it helps.
Also, you could use "last used style" which would than be applied to any further usage of the tool.

Small update on HP PSG font... http://typophile.com/node/27774 Any font can be used partially, just not as text but as image (raster or vector). By used I mean commercially. There are some more precise rules defining what is the difference between partial and complete, but since I`ve read about it s...

@ ~suv

Thank you for this thorough explanation. I`ve almost forgot about snapping to pixel (might be cause I have not changed settings in Inkscape for a long time) and it is god to bare this in mind, especially when not by own computer and error appears.

Hi brynn, I was not able to reproduce the issue which you have described in your post. Trace bitmap dialog/panel

Maybe cause I have not used it much previously, but now I have noticed that after Trace bitmap is used once, upon next activation it does not show any of the dialogs? Any ideas?

Re: tips on getting Inkscape to recognise a tablet

Had the same problem with Genius tablet (it was possible to move cursor but no tools or actions could be applied / WinXP, 0.48), and solution was rather unusual. Inside the Inkscape preferences/Mouse, check box for "Use pressure-sensitive tablet" was checked, as expected, but it all worked...
