Try using the pencil tool, smoothing at 1, and use the Ellipse shape.

Re: How to move each group to a new created layer

Sorry - the <i> and </i> came because I posted from elsewhere and it didn't get converted to bbcode. What you show is exactly what you need - you don;t even need the label line. Here is one I did with search/replace in a text editor, each group in the original layer ended up as a sublayer of the ori...

Re: How to move each group to a new created layer

Layers are (technically) groups in Inkscape. You just need to add <i>inkscape:groupmode="layer"</i> attribute to each group <g> node. Beware of nested groups. You should only add the above to the outer-most groups. I don't know what Inkscape would do if it thought an inner group was a lay...

Re: How to move each group to a new created layer

Layers are (technically) groups in Inkscape.

You just need to add inkscape:groupmode="layer" attribute to each group <g> node.

Any language that can open an xml file and process it should be able to handle the task (outside of inkscape).

Re: Trouble using "pattern along path"

That extension needs a pattern with more noted. Use the Extension->Modigy path->add nodes to add more nodes and it will work.

Even better is to use the pattern along path path effect. It works without modifying your rectangle pattern.

This works for me.

To make every item in a selection the same height, you need to use Edit->Paste Size->Paste height Separately

Re: creating fillable shape from lines

I'm trying to create a fillable shape from lines. For example I draw 3 lines that I "connect" with "snap to cuspnode" to make a triangle. But I can not fill that shape. I tried Ctrl-K and Boolean and stuff like that, but it doesn't become a shape that I can fill. Does anybody kn...

Re: Text on Path - Union

You have to move the letters together before you convert to a path and union them. The text tool has a letter spacing parameter you can change, and individual letter spaces can be change by moving the text cursor where you want and using alt+cursors to move them.

Overlap them slightly.

This is a known rendering bug that also occurs with patterns.

Re: How to get started on writing extensions

I'd suggest:

1) learn Python.
2) learn about XML & DOM manipulation
3) Look at existing extensions and start by modifying ones that are close to what you want.

Can you provide one of the exported svg files to examine?

I'd suggest that you could select each block of text and (possibly ungroup some number of times until only paths are selected) then union them all together, and possibly simplify (ctrl-L)

Hard though, as it appears the image you linked to is a 3d render, not drawn art. The internal reflections, refractions, and caustic effects would all have to be drawn by hand...

After converting the text to a path It might have to be ungrouped and then unioned to make it all one path.

What does the status bar say about it after converting text object to path?

Re: [workaround] How to fill an open shape?

Draw a path, set fill n NONE and stroke to Unset. (attributes bust be unset to change them in clones) Create a clone, set its stroke to the outline, i.e. 12px, black. Select the original (Shift-D). Create a second clone, set its stroke to 10px, yellow. You will have a 10px yello stroke with a 1 px l...

Or possible to alter any segments color, thickness or opacity independent of the rest of the figure. That would be nice  AFAIK, that's not supported by the SVG specification, which is what Inkscape is forced to work with. You can get very similar by using clones (example attached). You jus...

You can use Object to guides (on a duplicate) to get a set of guidelines that will tell you the angle that can be manually applied using the Object Transform dialog and typing in the angle. Hi. Don't work. I get the angle to the relationship between bounding box width/height. The angle of text does...

Just set that object to no stroke, duplicate it and set the duplicate to 1 px stroke and use the node editor to open up those two endcaps ("delete Segment between two non-endpoint nodes")

Here is the best way I have found, which only works if the strokes of the object are all thicker than the radius you want. Start with your text, fill only, no stroke. Duplicate it. Set the stroke to 2x radius you want, i.e. 6 px=3 px radius, and set the stroke style to Round Join and Round Cap. Do a...
