Re: Paths of variable widths

Even "simpler" is to copy a path to your clipboard with ctrl+c (must be a path, not a group or object), then in the pen or pencil tool select the shape dropdown and select "clipboard".

This is just a shortcut to applying the pattern along path LPE.

Re: My new logo design (C&C Welcome)

As an amateur logo critic, I'd suggest combining the logo from 1 with the name from 3 but set the spacing of the tagline more like 2. If you will forgive my course hand, here is a rejigger showing a unit box based off the lowercase text height and the spacing I'd suggest, including the recommended w...

Re: How to select an object between the two?

Even cooler than that is Alt-scrollwheel to cycle select all items under the pointer (it even reduced the opacity of all the non-selected ones while cycling) Note : This feature is only available in development snapshot builds of the next major release (Inkscape 0.49 )! Sorry - forget which ...

Re: inkscape:groupmode="layer": why is this required ?

I've implemented this functionality of converting groups into layers and back in a more complex extension I'm building. If anyone's interested, I'll be happy to share the code specific to this conversion. It basically works as follows: if a group is selected: change that group's id to <oldId>_from_...

For slicing up images, I'd use poseterazor: http://posterazor.sourceforge.net/

I use it regularly for large maps.

Re: Re-Sizing Problem

The two grey shapes are strokes.

When you are scaling, there are 4 buttons after the word "Affects:" in the tool bar. Make sure that the first (affects stroke) is selected so the stroke will scale when you scale the group.

You can also with clones. Draw one line/side and clone it then flip the clone horizontally.

As you edit the one, the other will remain symmetrical.

Re: Fantasy Map: Torchio

brynn- To make a "random world" the easiest way is to use some form of fractal noise - like Perlin noise. I like to use gimp and the felimage noise plugin mainly because it supports generating noise with a spherical mapping. This is necessary to represent a globe on a rectangular map. The ...

Re: Widen Stroke Without Bleeding Into The Fill

As you are doing - duplicate the text, and move the duplicate below and set the stroke wider is the easiest way. It shouldn't create nodes, as text doesn't have nodes. Alternately change the fill and stroke to Unset (It will look black), then clone the text and give it the stroke and width you want,...

Re: Multiple copy/move operation

The idea was that IF the cloned object's original object is a group with wto or more objects, I could delete all the boxes when I deleted the box on the original object. But that doesn't worked. The remaining boxes was still there, and I had to manually delete each of them. it works for me that way...

I'm suspecting http://www.rgb2cmyk.org/ uses imagemagick in the background, as it does this nicely from the command line:

Hi again James- In my experience, starting with a vector application (like Inkscape) with the hopes of moving to a GIS system is quite troublesome. Have you considered starting with a GIS which can export your map data and then use an application like Inkscape to "pretty" it up? http://ope...

I've also purchased Serif Drawplus X5 to complement my Inkscape/Gimp work. One nice feature is you can enable "pressure profiles" on any line created by a pressure sensitive tablet, or if no tablet, they provide a dialog to create a profile that can then be applied to a line or lines. Here...
