Re: Need help cutting images within an image

another idea: it might also work even without vectorization of the original image. 1. With such a black & white bitmap you could use the "Bucket Tool" (Shift+F7). 2. fill the areas of the petals, leafs and the stem. 3. delete the bitmap image 4. remove the fill and set a stroke. These ...

Re: Need help cutting images within an image

OK, I see, I was just focussing on the trace centerline which is the first step. Well, if you need to laser cut 5 different petals & center (probably out of different materials) the only way I see is to break this path apart (Shift+Ctrl+K and additionally maybe with F2/break path at selected nod...

Re: Need help cutting images within an image

Theozh, I tried reproducing your process. Once I get the image into inkscape, how do I know it is vectorized? I hit the "edit paths by nodes" tool and do not see any nodes. I do not know what you have done exactly. I do see nodes. Have you used WinTopo? In WinTopo, have you "Copied v...

Re: Need help cutting images within an image

Hi @trader4300, as I understand you need a trace centerline function. In the past, I also needed such a tool. However, I also was discouraged by the installation of this extension (if I remember correctly with some extra Python libraries, etc...) With a little web search I came across WinTopo. http:...

Re: Can Inkscape show 'preview lines' when drawing?

Welcome to the forum, @Jenny168,
why not downloading 0.92, which is the newest version?
But I don't see this behaviour you're describing also not with 0.91

you need to draw something like a coil or spring?
Menubar | Extension Render | Parametric curve
might be helpful.
Have a look at an example from @Lazur

Perhaps they should be called a and b, then... ;-) Those don't define any directions, and leave it unclear... ... I don't like unclear documentation or instructions :? Well, the path segments define an angle (<180°) and an area inbetween. The grid will always be created within this area (or in this...

Re: [solved] Grid in Inkscape

...by accident, I just stumbled accross: LPE Construct Grid (that's probably what @brynn meant...) Probably the easiest method... 1. Draw a rectangle (3.25 x 2.0 mm) 2. LPE Construct Grid (Shift+Ctrl+7) (or Shift+Ctrl+6, depending on your keyboard layout/language) 3. Enter Size X: 60, Size Y: 40 Don...

Re: Arrowhead touching a line?

Thank you @Lazur, I see, it's seems to be not so easy... A workaround which came to my mind is: 1. duplicate the black line 2. do stroke to path 3. let the (visual) bounding boxes of the arrowhead and the black "line" snap to each other 4. delete the duplicated black "line" Well,...

Arrowhead touching a line?

just curious, if anybody has a smart idea about realizing an arrow head just touching a line or an object with some stroke? The problem is: when creating the arrow, the path should snap to the black path to have the properly defined length. However, the touching point of the arrow head will depend o...

Re: Grid in Inkscape

ok, drawing a grid... not for aligment... Interpolation is a good way... if you knew about this extension. There is also the Extension | Render | Grids | Cartesian Grid... which, however, only allows dimensions in px :( You could also use the LPE Ruler... You could also use Tiled Clones (but I would...

Re: Grid in Inkscape

Welcome @ramses to the Inkscape forum, If you go to preferences (Shift+Ctrl+P) you can set the grid. So for your height 12cm with 60 subdivisions this would be 2 mm and "Major grid line every" 60 For your width 13 cm with 40 subdivision this would be 3.25 mm "Major grid line every&quo...

Ok, I see, no problem... ...I just see your edited post: Yes, either difference or cut & delete the cut parts... If the grey area is the area you want to delete and if it is a vector drawing then I guess you simply can delete the "E...P" and "blue arrow", etc. For the black a...

@seans_potato_biz, after reading your post a second time, my answer above probably does not describe what you really want. In the image below, I want to keep the stuff on top of the grey area. I was trapped by your words "inverted/opposite". For what I understand now, you do not need to in...

Re: How to cut out a piece of an image (opposite of set clip)

a pretty straight forward way would be (maybe there is a more elegant?):
1. draw a rectangle covering all objects of the complete image
2. into this rectangle cut a "hole" with the shape of your grey area using Menubar | Path | Difference
3. do the clipping with this new shape

Actually, additional icons were introduced, that's why they don't fit on your screen anymore and "disappear" in a submenu. A larger computer screen might help ;-) Joking aside... You probably cannot remove or hide icons (at least I am not aware of) but you could make them smaller... Menuba...

Thank you, @Xav. Your detailed explanations made a bit clearer. So, again for me to summarize: It's not possible to directly create scaled Tiled Clones without scaling the stroke at the same time. You always have to: 1. remove the stroke of the original 2. unset the stroke of the original 3. set the...

Thanks, @Moini, that's it. I never would have searched in "paste". Well, ok, you're pasting a size... Afterwards it's "obvious" ;-) Comment: if you have a reference object then it's all fine. If you just want to set the height or width to a certain value you would have to draw a ...

[solved] How to scale several objects by either height or width only?

Is there an efficient way to scale different objects with different sizes to the same size (either height or width) of a reference object? Of course, I can e.g. copy the height of the reference object and paste it manually for all other objects, one after another. The Transform Dialog (Shift+Ctrl+M)...
