Re: Snapping to extremal points of a path

@Moini, done: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1714665 (well, if one finds a new useful feature, one should not complain ;-) ). How do I contact Tav best? ok. found it. Just wanted to make sure that it doesn't go to his spam folder. @Brynn, yes, vertex might be a better choice. But I am not ...

Snapping to extremal points of a path

I was just surprised to see that you can snap to extremal points of a path. So, just in case somebody else might find it useful... - set snap to path intersections - select your path - use the node tool (F2) and move close to one of the path extremes - double click if you want to create a node there...

Re: Screen recorders, capture, etc.

Under Win7, I made good experience so far with ScreenToGif (I guess Windows only)...
https://github.com/NickeManarin/ScreenToGif/
You have a nice editor but the GIFs are not the most compact.

A suitable program to compress the GIF further might be Gifsicle/Giflossy

Re: [solved] Find intersection point between line and rectangle

@Moini, yes, a) is definitely not straightforward, especially when it doesn't snap to the intersection although it says so. Although, I guess this behaviour with the proximity of the handle might be intentional (or still by accident?). sorry, haven't mentioned it... already done... https://bugs.laun...

Re: Drawing a defined circle "trick"

@Lazur, well when I want to draw a circle I want to draw a circle (no matter what it really is in the "background"... Bézier, n-polygons, elliptic arcs, whatever...). Why is Inkscape forcing users to think about n-polygons or (approximative) workarounds instead of letting them simply draw ...

Re: [solved] Find intersection point between line and rectangle

@tylerdurden, yes, snapping guides to intersections works, no doubt. That's why @ragstian's solution with guides is the "secure" solution.
However, my point is that creating a node with the node tool together with snapping shows some inconsistency.

Re: [solved] Find intersection point between line and rectangle

ok... FWIW... Creating a node via snapping to intersection apparently behaves a bit special. It seems that the relative position of the node tool/handle to the intersection determines where the new node will be created. Assume you have one path selected and the other one unselected. If "Handle ...

Re: Drawing a defined circle "trick"

Drawing a defined circle "trick"

Drawing a defined circle can become really complicated in Inkscape depending on the starting and/or boundary conditions. See discussion here: http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=32130 The following describes the construction of a circle with a given center point and a given point o...

Hi @dimpas, what do you mean with "color does not transfer to .pdf"? Do you have colors in the SVG and you get a grey-scale or black/white PDF? Which Version of Inkscape are you using? Which operating system? What is the command line you are using? Was your SVG created with Inkscape? If I ...

Re: [solved] Find intersection point between line and rectangle

Certainly, @ragstian's solution is the preferred solution. If @srynoname doesn't mind creating a node at this location there should be another way even without guide. 1. set snap intersections 2. select line 3. use node tool (F2) 4. double click to create a new node when "Handle to path interse...

Re: How to make some parts of a line smaller or bigger?

Hi @Techdraconics, the property stroke-width is always valid for the whole path. So, if you need a thinner part in the middle you need to break the line into 3 pieces and set individual stroke-widths. Or are you talking about a gradually thinner line in the middle? Left: 3 paths with different strok...

Hi, @aladin, the status line in your screenshot tells you "7 objects selected of types Group, Path..."
For tracing bitmaps you need to select a BITMAP image, not vector paths.

Re: Breaking a path

Another approach could be: Use the Freehand-Tool (F6) or Bezier-Tool (Shift+F6) to draw a polygon (here red) around the black part which you want to delete. Use a Boolean Operation to delete it: 1. Select the red path and your black part. 2. Menubar | Path | Difference With this, you do not have to ...

Re: What Inkscape version allows me to make a silhouette image?

@flamingolady, interesting approach. It's good to let disappear all the surrounding immediately. Although, I don't see a big advantage over manually drawing the outline of the desired object with the Freehand-Line (F6) or Bezier-Tool (Shift+F6). With this you directly generate as many nodes as you n...

Hi, @scottjodoin, are you talking about a) object/paths or b) bitmap images? If I understood you correctly... a) divide objects and cut paths. b) cut your bitmap image (with some other software, I don't know whether Inkscape can also do it?). Compress and/or skew the part you want. Probably, there a...

Welcome to the forum @poppi. What does the message in the status bar say when you try to do the boolean difference? Maybe something like "One of the object is not a path, cannot perform boolean operation"? Boolean operations with group of objects might not work (unless you have the Multi-B...
