Re: Repairing a vector image...

When I bring the color wheel up in the Fill and Stroke dialogue box, (by selecting something), it won't respond to my efforts to move the little dot on the center triangle. What am I doing wrong? :( :( :( I'd try to drag anywhere in the triangle, rather than trying to drag the little dot... let the...

Re: Selecting and copying...

To be more explicit, to copy two objects: Select both objects by clicking on one, then hold the SHIFT key and click another. A dotted line (bounding box) will appear around both. Then you can copy and paste both at the same time. Or, the selected objects can be grouped (behave like one object), then...

Re: Pages Printing With Black Background

I don't have Illustrator, but I assume it is there.

Illustrator and Corel seem to use clipping on documents, I'm not sure why.

I would just use Inkscape to tweak the logo as needed and use directly or in conjunction with Scribus for layouts.

Re: Pages Printing With Black Background

Well, there was a black clipping element, as large as the document. Removing it doesn't seem to harm it, as far as i can tell.

I ungrouped the original, unclipped and discarded the full black element.

The kerning of the text was/is a bit uneven, though. Might be from conversion to svg.

Re: Pages Printing With Black Background

If you can upload the svg or .ai file, we can take a look. Might be something simple like an extra element that AI puts in.

Perhaps you can attach your svg file and others can take a look.

Another tactic is to open a second instance of Inkscape and see if you can isolate the issue from other elements on the page.

Here is another version using open paths: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/yc2x1gw267wwmpy/ittayd-question-2.svg Download and view in Inkscape. The cylinder and rectangle in the earlier version were used to create guides. (Shift+G) Fills were turned off and the paths were opened by deleting line ...

There are many ways, Here is a bad way: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/9v2f3atk65vv61v/ittayd-question.svg It is bad, but it demonstrates fills and z-order. Download this svg and pick it apart in Inkscape. :D Explore the manual, it is fun to try the techniques. http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/...

Re: Need Help: How to do Illustrator procedure in Inkscape.

Hi,
It looks like Inkscape could do similar, but it is unclear from the video what the desired result should be.

Grouped paths can be ungrouped.
All paths can be selected and placed in a layer.

What is the goal?

Re: Keyboard shortcut for a specific color

I can see the value of the keystroke access. I'd check into custom mapping. From the online manual: You can change the keyboard shortcuts used by Inkscape by editing or replacing the file share/keys/defaults.xml. There are a number of alternative shortcuts available. To use them, simply rename the f...

Hello, I opened the file in Inkscape. Then it was simple enough to save as an inkscape file and ungroup the image... all the countries are identified in the xml, so the xml editor can be used to select a country, use the "zoom to selected" button and then the view is oriented where you mig...

The tutor running UVNC viewer should be fairly safe, provided file-sharing is used with caution.

Re: newbie wanting to use screen sharing to learn

UltraVNC is free and can be used on Windows machines. I would have the student establish the server and allow the tutor remote control.

Re: Thoughts on Inkscape Compared to Illustrator

I enjoyed reading the article. :) I will concur that it would be nice to have more z-axis controls in a tree, but as noted, that could also be overwhelming to occasional users. (See Corel) I suppose one could adopt a workflow where a new layer is added (Ctrl+Shift+N) before creating any object, so a...

Re: MAC 10.9 Can not save after creation (.ai)

Hi,

You might try renaming the .ai file to .pdf, before importing to Inkscape. I realize that might mean re-doing some work, but might be worth a try.

Ja, like the example linked, I'd duplicate the sun and clip it with a path that follows the sun's edges where the orbit crosses. In layman's terms: take a piece of the sun and paste it over the orbit. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/imvortjajve7uex/orbit1.svg Feel free to download this image and...

I looked at the file in Textpad... I don't believe it's recoverable. It's 100% null characters.
