Re: cannot export as transparent png

I'd check the fill/stroke opacities on your objects... looks like the white rectangle is set to 40.7%.

As for fixing/adjusting elements, I'd try selecting & ungrouping the book object and tweak the path of the shadow.

Re: Decatenate/split path commands in svg files

Perhaps try saving as "Plain SVG"...

I opened/saved a file in SVG-Edit (web-based) which concatenated the path data. Opened that in Inkscape and saved as "plain" which re-wrote the paths with spaces in the proper places.

YMMV...

Can you upload a sample file?

(The Inkscape files I have appear to not be concatenated.)

Re: high rez photo trace

I don't own Illustrator, but the Google-machine tells me AI has a well developed mesh gradient feature, which is still in the oven for Inkscape... I've no idea regarding integration of it with the trace feature.

Re: Mysterious missing text objects

Hey, great to hear the mod corrects the problem. I downloaded TypeLight before the holidays, but didn't delve into it as yet... I will give it a go (or try v2.37). And let's not give fonts short-shrift (pun intended)... they are complex little devils, and it's kinda remarkable they work so well, so ...

Re: Mysterious missing text objects

Thanks for the update and the tip on Liberation fonts.

BTW, If you aren't familiar with text editors like textpad, they can find-and-replace across documents to bulk update your svg files that have the Arial Narrow.

Cheers,

How was the image converted to vector?

Can you upload the file or a snippet example?

I've not seen that issue, but when specific features vanish like that, I suspect display-adapter settings.

Nice... A google image search on: stainless bottle highlights shows a number of examples for reference on highlights, speculars and shadows. e.g.: http://p.globalsources.com/IMAGES/PDT/B1017765151/Water-Bottle.jpg http://p.globalsources.com/IMAGES/PDT/B0336524150/Sports-Water-Bottle.jpg http://stati...

Re: unable to rasterize svg with mask

I can't get it to work in Chrome (dev), so it's not clear if the goal is to punch-out the text from the rectangle, or to fill the text with rectangle content.

Anyway, here are some tips:

Re: An Introduction

Howdy, You probably know already: Inkscape edits SVG natively. SVG is written in XML and can be read directly by browsers (including mobile) and manipulated by scripts... SVG images can therefore be made interactive, like Flash. Inkscape is open-source and in constant development, so features found ...

Another fast/dirty is to export a checker pattern and modify in GIMP (whirl, skew), import modified png and embellish.

This will look strange online in this reply, but open the file in Inkscape, it will be more clear... This task is not much different than any other desktop operation: edit, copy (or "clone") and paste. In Inkscape, the file now has circles added to a group of objects. The group can be &quo...

Re: Mysterious missing text objects

A little more digging... Inkscape seems to freak-out badly when Arial Narrow is set to bold. Other fonts seem ok. Using a text editor (textpad, etc.) to replace "Arial Narrow" with "Arial" in existing SVG files resolves the issue here. (There are some other anomalies in the test ...

I haven't got it sussed as yet... some manipulation of the style attributes helps, but nothing definitive.

Re: Outset Rounding Edges

Ah-ha. Offhand, if I were trying to replicate the character of the lines, I'd try laying out guidelines and draw straight lines, then convert the strokes to paths and tweak-tool the paths to expand like the ends of the original raster. Then I'd fill with gradients to approximate the fade in the line...

Re: Invisible Lines that I can't find for the life of me.

That looks like what I see when opening Inkscape SVG files in Corel. :(

The original file looks fine to me in Adobe Reader when output as a PDF. I'd ask if that is suitable for them and specify to have them print from Reader and only the blue lines cut.

Did we get the correct image...?... it just looks like a few distorted corner ornaments or crop marks. (approx object size: 5733px x 1926px)

Maybe share a piece of the original raster?

Re: Spiro curves and half-smooth nodes

I can now confirm the issue... SHIFT+S makes full smooth, unless the node has at least one extended handle.

SHIFT+LEFT MOUSE DRAG on the node extends a handle, then SHIFT+S makes half-smooth.
