Re: Is it possible to do this in Inkscape?

I have occasionally used LibreOffice to plot graphs and waveforms... The charts in LibreOffice are vector, so they can easily be copied and pasted into Inkscape.

Re: Difference object-path with line.

A straight line is a special case. When Inkscape performs an operation (boolean), it converts open paths (lines) to closed paths. "Any open paths are, for the purpose of these commands, closed by a line between the path's end points. Shape objects and text objects are automatically converted to...

Agree, when sending to printers and cutters, it is often better to save a PDF copy and print or cut from that.

Re: Dividing Text and Making Arc/Eclipse

To make a crescent, I'd clip one ellipse with another. To divide text, I'd stack two layers of text and clip the top one with any desired shape.

The preview may be a render of just one layer or selection, I'd check the settings of the bitmap export dialog, if Inkscape is being used to generate the PNG previews.

I wouldn't expect to see consistency in color between screens (or print) unless they are calibrated to a standard.

Re: Turning a design into a negative

Any object can be filled/stroked with white over a black background for single color. Reverse depending on what gets burned/printed in the negative. More complex stuff is not my forte, but here's my meager understanding with a simple layout and bucket tool: ColorSep1.jpg Methods for complex designs ...

Looks like the z-order of objects is getting shuffled when you ungroup. It shouldn't be too difficult to re-order.

From the help files: " To force a circle to be drawn, hold down the Ctrl while dragging the mouse. This also allows ellipses with a height to width or width to height ratio that is either an integer or in the “Golden Ratio” to be drawn. Holding the Shift key down while dragging will create an e...

I don't think clones can do path operations. Maybe break the links and try.

interestingly enough, on step #3 the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + +) did not work - nothing happened (did it several times from step 1 to step 3 to be certain I was doing all of it just as you wrote). Re: Path Tab tools not functioning as expected - need help

Some thoughts:

Ensure the circles are all one object, one path.
Ensure the rectangle is a path.
Ensure the circles and the rectangle are both selected when using the Difference tool.

Re: How would I resize an image to be 1.5" x 1" and 300dpi?

I would set the page size to 1" x 1.5" in the document properties panel. Then I'd use menu: Edit> G uides around Page Select and group all objects Ctrl+Alt+A, Ctrl+G I'd activate "Snap bounding box corners" in the snap tools (far right in screenshot) Drag corners to snap Save as ...

Re: toggle view shortcut?

Sorry if this is obvious...

Are you using "Ctrl numpad 5"? It is not the same key-combo as "Ctrl 5".

I'm on a laptop with embedded numpad, so it would be more complicated for me, unless I plug in a usb numpad.

I'm not sure if this is useful, but it might be worth noting that LibreOffice Calc (spreadsheet) generates vector charts.

I occasionally copy charts I make in Calc and paste them into Inkscape for tweaking.

Ghostscript is a bit of open interpreting software for handling postscript and pdf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostscript It is free to download and install, but the path variables on the host computer will need to be modified to hook with Inkscape. http://www.brighthub.com/multimedia/publishing/...

The extracted file opened ok in Inkscape for me, so it may simply be the ghostscript or other handler.

I did need reset the page size, tho.
