Re: Printing Large File to PDF

Seems the renderer chokes on the big filter and kills the object on export to pdf.

I hacked a workaround by making the drop in two small pieces and rasterizing the drop at 100dpi.

PDF looks good here.

Re: Applying Color and Filling In Areas

You might try taking the scanned bitmap out of the inkscape file and see if the filesize becomes more manageable for uploading/sharing.

Re: Modification of drawing changes non-alphabetic character

A layer for just the text makes it easy to sequester: lock, hide, etc. A habit from GIMP. I'm a klutz, likely to bump or alter objects when tweaking other objects.

Re: Modification of drawing changes non-alphabetic character

When the PDF files direct from the schematic app are opened in Inkscape, is the text always intact? (Seems that way here.) If so, I'd bring drawings from the schematic app into Inkscape, lock the intact text on one layer and on a higher layer mask the text that needs correction with white boxes or c...

Re: Modification of drawing changes non-alphabetic character

I don't know how Arial on my machine becomes ArialMT in PDFs generated by Inkscape. FWIW: "The font name is "Arial" but the "PostScript name" inside the font (i.e., what displays inside of Acrobat or Reader) of that particular font is "ArialMT" where the "MT&...

Re: Modification of drawing changes non-alphabetic character

Ja, seems fonts going out to PDF and coming in from PDF have issues...

Re: Cutting part of a vector object?

You might try selecting the logo and using the Ungroup button to make each element an object.

Then, any elements/objects can be selectively grouped, cut, copied, pasted.

Re: Modification of drawing changes non-alphabetic character

@tylerdurden: What do you mean by reset all the type? Is it a specific operation accessible by the menus? I wasn't able to find anything that looked applicable from googling: I'd add a layer and type in good text over where the current text is (for the entire document), then delete the old text. Ha...

Re: Modification of drawing changes non-alphabetic character

If printing to pdf returns inconsistent results, I'd reset all the type on the drawing(s), to avoid future problems.

Re: Inches, fractions, grids, rounding, accuracy and points.

We work in fractions of inches or the decimal equivalents. It wouldn't be any problem with a floating decimal entry in the grid and guide settings, but that ain't happenin. Setting a grid with (inch) decimal equivalents < 1/16"... rounding will screw up the grid. Same with typing in a guide pos...

Re: Cutting on CraftRobo with DXF files

FWIW, the Epilog laser cutters we use also don't play well with Inkscape... we output to PDF and send to the cutters from the PDF reader with very good results.

Inches, fractions, grids, rounding, accuracy and points.

Hi All, Thanks for the many helpful contributions, I would be lost without them. I hope this post will help others too... I could not find this specific info via searching the board. Backstory: I need to work in inches for many print-destined projects. (Clients use inches.) I wanted to use guides to...
