You can post a link to the media, if it doesn't embed in the message.

Re: Uploading videos to Inkscape Forum

Inkscapeforum.com is like many community participation sites that restrict direct uploading of certain filetypes. It is common to restrict filetypes that use larger amounts of storage and bandwidth. Until more resources are available, this is the way it is. It is not a hardship for community members...

Re: Uploading videos to Inkscape Forum

Videos will need to be uploaded to a sharing site like google or dropbox.

I link to GIFs at dropbox for most of my screen captures.

You could try adding a transparent rectangle behind your drawing the size of your full drawing plus margin.

Feel free to attach an example file for us to examine.

Also, I'd go through the tutorials in the help menu, so terms become more familiar.

Re: Draw irregular shapes with parallel sides

I would use duplicate and outset operations.

If you have a preferred increment, you can set that in the preferences dialog.

Here I'm making a few, and I can copy/paste the ones I want, or delete the ones I don't.

Will do.

Re: cutting/segmenting a spiral?

The interpretation of the abbreviation was left as an exercise for the reader. Particularly since the directions explicitly indicated where in the menus the operation was to be found. If we prefer to nitpick, we might observe that the term "Live" is likely deprecated, since it does not app...

Re: Adding a different gradient to stroke and fill of an object

Here's what I see happening... With the new gradient editor, the inkscape:collect attribute is added to any new parent gradient, and to any duplicates made from that parent. The attribute causes the gradients to purge when the last object using the gradient is deleted. This can be overcome by deleti...

Re: Adding a different gradient to stroke and fill of an object

I'm still running 0.92.2 on Win 8.1.

I used the legacy editor and also named the gradients, and.... it still purges the gradients from the defs when I delete the last user of a gradient.

At least the swatches are available as a fallback.

Re: Adding a different gradient to stroke and fill of an object

...gradients that you *name* will not be removed automatically. Give them a name in the editor, and they will stay, even when the object is removed. I was so excited, but alas, I must be doing something wrong. Named gradients also seem to go away when I delete a single user. 2019-07-11_13-10-07.gif...

Re: cutting/segmenting a spiral?

I'd try using the LPE (Menu: Path>Path Effects), Pattern along Path.
Make a segment 4" long, and copy it.
Apply the LPE to the spiral.
    Select repeated, not stretched.
Click the paste button in the LPE dialog.

I'd trace in 2 grey scans to get the black bits, then make the color arcs with blurred open paths.

Re: Adding a different gradient to stroke and fill of an object

Looks like my version of Inkscape (0.92.2) is deleting gradients that have no users. That leaves a couple of options: Make a copy of the object and hide it on a layer Save the gradients as a swatches, but ensure the cleanup button is unchecked in preferences. Otherwise, the swatches will auto-prune ...

Re: How to save cropped SVG?

Since all the objects are vector, I'd ungroup all, delete the parts I don't need, and use path operations on the staff lines to make them short. Then select all and resize page to selected.

Re: Inkscape not cutting at all

Sorry, I'm on my first cup of coffee, and overlooked where you mentioned "job: none". It is standard practice to save a copy of the document as a PDF and "Print" that from Adobe reader. Very few illustrations programs work directly with Epilog lasers. Corel in particular has been...

I understand it is confusing for many users, nooBs and veterans alike. I'm not sure how the UI could be improved, but I can certainly state that more user-friendly explanations could reduce confusion. We can discuss various text scenarios and ways to address them here: Text Line-Height controls: how...

Let's identify common text scenarios and how to set the Text Tool controls for each scenario. 1) Uniform text height and uniform line spacing. 2) Uniform text height and non-uniform line spacing. 3) Non-uniform text height and uniform line spacing. 4) Non-uniform text-height and non-uniform line spa...
