Re: Export into PDF/EPS/PS creates an empty file

OK, here's what I would try... In the Inkscape XML editor, expand the "defs" section, and for each gradient that has a gradient transform with a matrix, delete that transform. Clean and save. Save a copy as pdf and see if it helps. Del_def.png I don't know how to get the transform matrix t...

Re: Export into PDF/EPS/PS creates an empty file

You should play the lottery... you hit a bug right off the bat. PDF export does not handle swatches at the moment . Plus, there are more efficient ways to use repeating elements... check out clones and tiled-clones in the manual. Plus, there are better ways to build the elements, but that will come ...

Re: Export into PDF/EPS/PS creates an empty file

15MB is kinda large for a vector file. I'd try using the "clean document" tool in the File menu to see if that helps. I'd then try to save as PDF.

If you're willing to let me look at the original svg file, you can PM me.

Added to release notes. I hope, though, I'll be able to remove that part again before the final release: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/1.0#Import.2FExport_via_Uniconvertor_dropped It looks like the sK1 team is still interested in tinkering with the UC (for SVG in particular)...

Is that documented anywhere?

I'm wondering about Inkscape support for the image formats UC handled.

more to discuss... e.g. Something broken since the dpi change is PLT support (plus other formats). Uniconverter hardcoded at 90 dpi. Inkscape also uses Unicovertor to export to PLT, WMF and SK1, and import from SK1, PLT, CDT, WMF, CMX, CDR, CGM, CCX and AI formats. https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscap...

Re: Is there an automated way to indicate the center of circles

I presumed the OP already has circles in the design (maybe of various sizes) and needs centermarks on those existing circles to set drilling operations in a CAM program.

If new circles are needed... yes, cloning.

Re: Is there an automated way to indicate the center of circles

20 objects is that not that many... I would use snapping to object centers and just duplicate a centermark for each circle.

If I had to do 200 circles, then I might consider developing an automated way to do it.

Re: (root) layer?

You're not doing anything wrong, it's just a quirk of how some files are written (and how Inkscape creates layers in a file format that doesn't really have layers).

I would simply select and cut all objects in the root, make a new layer and use Menu: Edit>Paste in Place (Ctrl+Alt+V).

Re: Stray Marks in Bitmap Trace

You may notice that the trace operation leaves the original bitmap behind the resulting paths. I usually delete that to ensure no extra junk gets in the picture. You may have also seen that the trace can produce groups and/or stacked paths of varying grayscale (or color). I'm imagining that there ma...

Presuming the original bitmap has been deleted, I'd look at the screen using menu:view >outlines... See if there are paths there.

Re: Objects borders not perfectly aligned

It looks like the nodes are aligned, but not snapped to the axo grid - despite the cusp snapping being already enabled. Likely the issue is anti-aliasing artifacts when rendered to bitmap or by screen renderers. Vector objects with mating lines cannot be perfectly reproduced in pixels. If paths are ...

Re: the future of this forum

The new forum should be built on PHPBB like this one, IMO. No custom forum needed, just off the shelf is ready now. Microugly might eventually get us the database for this current forum and we can just merge it in. If that doesn't happen, at least the navigation/search of the old and new will be the...

From the manual: By default, a zoom of “1” corresponds to one Inkscape pixel per screen pixel. If you would like to calibrate the zoom to a real physical measurement unit (like inches or centimeters), you can do so under the Interface section of the Inkscape Preferences dialog. You will find there a...

Re: Printing to 100% scale

No worries... it's probably just a communication/translation thing. If I want to see an A4 portion of a much larger graphic that is scaled to final size, I'd just selectively position the artwork over the A4 document boundary and save as PDF.
