Re: Need some hired help

If all you have is a PNG, Inkscape will not be able to edit it at all. But it sounds like you must have at least partially a vector file. It would be most helpful if you could provide the actual vector file. Edit - We need to see the vector file, because if the text has been converted to paths, it c...

Re: Rectangle trapezium

Well, I saw one thing that said something like the attached would be called a trapezium. But other things showed the kind where 2 sides are parallel and the other 2 not - more what I think of as a trapezoid.

Re: seeking 3d drawing program - off topic - but don't know where else to ask

Bryn, send to what other program and for what? Yes, measurements of the pieces is important. You wrote: Do you mean like for a 3d printer? I mean, if you want to draw the scupture in a 3d program, is it just to see what it's going to look like? Because if you need to measure the pieces, that seems ...

Is a "rectangle trapezium" the same thing as a "trapezoid"? I did some searching, but didn't find any definitive distinction.

Re: How do I make .ai files work in Inkscape?

If you mean something more than opening AI files in Inkscape, please be specific about what you want to do. "make .ai files work" could refer to any number of potential issues. Current versions of Inkscape (I think 0.91 and higher) should be able to open AI files without much trouble (sing...

Re: Development versions for Windows available on a regular basis via AppVeyor

So how do you get the most current version? Do you just choose the one with the highest number in the right column? Because "CI/AppVeyor: Enable tests" doesn't tell me much. Several of the others seem to name the bug which was fixed. But most of the time when we would send a user here, it ...

Re: images on workspace disappeared!!??

Well we almost always have to do a certain amount of guessing when answering questions. In this case, I never would have guessed that "....I opened an svg and a pdf...." meant that she saved a PDF without saving an SVG. If all the drawing is outside the page border, and 5 is the shortcut f...

Re: Complete noob alert. Please nudge me in the right direction.

If you're on Windows, you'll have to take some extra steps to be able to open EPS files. Here's the FAQ item for that: https://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/#how-open-eps-files-windows However, it's written somewhat in generalities. So if you get lost, tell us specifically where you're getting lost, and...

Re: Can I do that with scripting?

Yes, I took a sort of liberty by making the text smaller in one of the boxes. In reality, the text would be the same size, and the box would be much larger. I just wanted to show how the printouts that I've seen are using the sort of speech bubbles or balloons or whatever. I have no idea how the use...

Re: images on workspace disappeared!!??

"what shows when you press 5".... That's the shortcut for Zoom to Page, which means it's only showing what's inside the page borders. If all your drawing is outside the borders, then you'll need to zoom back out, to see them. Maybe there was a change of definition of "page" in so...

Re: seeking 3d drawing program - off topic - but don't know where else to ask

I'm looking for a program where I can design sculptures with geometric shapes that I can take measurements from for building the sculpture by hand. Not 3d printing. Will the programs give you a layout with measurements? That sounds like something Blender should be able to do. But I don't know speci...

Re: Ians Stuff

Recently I wanted to give mesh gradients another go myself - but unfortunately Inkscape crashed every time I tried to adjust the mesh handles. Sooo, mesh gradients and I won't become friends anytime soon. Does it crash when you adjust the handles? Or does it crash when you try to Undo? (I find Undo...

Re: How to set measurements to default at inches?

Well, I have to say that I'm totally lost with this Scale setting. I think I'm about ready to throw a fit, and try to get developers to either explain it, or fix it. (Keeping in mind that I don't really mean throw a fit. I really mean post the subject to the mailing list and ask for an explanation w...

Re: [SOLVED] Enable preview in the "Open file" dialog?

Well for me, the dialog's appearance is an improvement. In previous version, the dialogs had pink border highlights (no matter what kind of theme). At least those are gone now.

But hopefully devs can make the native Open and Save As dialogs work with a preview.

Re: Can I do that with scripting?

Well I know what text messaging looks like. I do occassionally have to tell someone they have the wrong number and leave me alone. But I've seen text message threads printed out where each message is in a rounded rectangle. Actually I've seen 2 different forms. One is the rounded rectangles, which I...

Of course I read that. But I don't immediately see the connection between making a film and needing text messages set into rounded rectangles. Are the rounded rectangles with text messages actually going to be in the film? Do they need to be animated, or scroll? Or he wants to share text messages wi...

I think all options in Inkscape Preferences have tool tips, which you can see by hovering the mouse over the option for a couple of seconds.

Although I don't always understand those either.....

Re: How to set measurements to default at inches?

New documents created with units=in and scale=96 will create objects the correct size. Changing the scale of existing documents as described will enlarge existing objects, which then should be transformed to the desired size. Thanks. I was more asking what you meant about this part ...so extensions...

Re: Pull white image from black background

That particular image would be well suited for auto tracing, such as with Trace Bitmap, as Moini and TD both suggested. But Trace Bitmap will not produce a good result for all images. In some cases, you might need to "manually" trace with the Pen/Bezier tool. If you want a raster image for...
