Re: Hello from Lancaster County PA

On this page: https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php you'll find loads and loads of tutorials. They are mostly organized by skill level, and most of them (if not all) indicate whether they are text or video. (I find video tutorials annoying, myself.) Also locate the box titled "Inkscape ...

What a ridiculous OS.

I couldn't agree more. I was appalled at Windows 10! I just took my first steps yesterday to make the switch to Linux.

Re: Anyone tried "Pencil"?

Also, the Pencil tool doesn't not have pressure sensitivity with graphics tablets. Currently only the Calligraphy tool does. Although I think I saw a comment that pressure sensitivity for Pencil might be coming in a new version. (emphasis on "think" and "might") While we could ha...

Re: How to keep svg page size when importing into new document

I tried to import the each png file into a new A4 size Inkscape document but the graphics became pixelated. That must mean that the images are imported at something besides their original size. Check Inkscape Preferences > Bitmaps, and make sure the Import Resolution is set for 96. If it's anything...

Re: INTERPOLATE does not work

It's possible that Interpolate is working, but the results are not on the visible area of the canvas. If you've done a lot of other work on the same layer (or changed page size or orientation), it's possible one of those transform attribute bugs is happening. Try looking around - scroll around to lo...

Re: Node colors ...

As far as I can tell, the color of a selected node, when the mouse is not on top of it, changes depending on what color is behind it. Whether you have objects behind it, or you've assigned a background color for the canvas, it affects the selected node color. For example, if I put a dark blue object...

Re: Font missing

If Inkscape was open when you installed the font, you'll need to close Inkscape (all instances) and re-open, to be able to see the font. If you've already done that....hhmm.... It could be the font is not well made. In my experience, Inkscape can be picky about fonts. Well, I've been able to install...

Re: Shape fill: Use of boundary of another shape

Could a single straight edge serve as the boundary for 2 different colours? Not with an ordinary fill (notwithstanding Lazur's trick). But the Paint Bucket tool was designed for this type of situation. Although I don't usually suggest using it, if the caveats are not too much for you, it could be a...

Re: Changing GUI font in Windows

I don't remember 8 years ago - not for sure. Currently I'm seeing a sans serif font in the Inkscape interface (version 0.92.3). And I particularly dislike serif fonts, and probably would remember if Inkscape was using one. Unless the op was using a version older than 0.44, which was the first versio...

So just to be clear. You had a file named "MothersDay.svg" and a file named "Bride.svg". And when you saved MothersDay.svg, it did save that, but it also overwrote Bride.svg with the MothersDay.svg contents ? And was Bride.svg open at the time? Or not? Was there a message box ask...

Re: Unable to reproduce line spacing of previous file

Omgoodness, that line spacing info in the release notes could not be more confusing! It starts with saying the way Inkscape used to handle line spacing "is the most commonly expected behavior" and then it goes on to explain how it works now. One wonders why we would want to change it from ...

Re: Cannot associate svg files with Inkscape (Win 10)

This bug report will give you a way to do it. If I recall correctly, it's ultimately a Windows bug. But if you delete the registry key which is explained in the bug, the association should go right through. I've had to do that on 3 different versions of Inkscape now. So tired of it, but will soon be...

Re: Fail to open some jpg files

You're welcome to share the JPGs, and then we could test. However, if we also get the same error message, it won't help for finding out why they are causing Inkscape to crash. On the other hand, if a few of us all have the same experience, it would be solid ground to open a bug report and get develo...

Unfortunately, we can't help you with your cutter/engraver machine. You'll have to either find the documentation for your machine, or find a forum or some other online documentation, to learn how to use it. I guess what you need to do is change the red and blue objects to vector paths for cutting or...

Re: How to draw the 2D scheme from the given shadow?

Is that photo, realistic? You mean the curved bars on that sphere actually create a perfect square grid in shadow? Wow! And so, you want to enter some equation into Inkscape (or other program) which will produce something in 2D, which can eventually be glued up into that sphere? I doubt if Inkscape ...

There are a couple of ways to make the stroke into a separate object. 1 - duplicate the object (Edit menu > Duplicate, or this button https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/Smileys/IC_Smileys/duplicate.png or there's probably a key shortcut, search at Help menu > Key and Mouse Ref) 2 - for the original...

That's been a requested feature for a long time, but still not possible. Besides tylerdurden's suggestion, another suggestion would be to make the outline into a separate object. Inkscape needs to be closed when you install new fonts. Well, it doesn't have to be closed, but the font won't show up until you close and re-open Inkscape. If you've already closed and re-opened Inkscape by now, and you still have the same problem - If that's a free font, could you share a download...
