Re: How to cut out shape from a layer

It sounds like you're on the right track! I can't determine enough info from your screenshot to make this a short message. My best guess is that the purple ellipse either might not be the right kind of object, or possibly it's Grouped with the other objects. Select the purple ellipse and then look a...

Re: Making a template for Plasma cutting??

I can't quite make sense of the video, without watching the whole way. But if I understand what you're asking, the answer is yes, you can make such a temeplate. Make the SVG file however you want it, and save it in the user directory (this is for Windows C:/username/AppData/Roaming/Inkscape/template...

Yeah, but a lot of American parents would not like their children to use the forum, even if those images are tagged or flagged or whatever. Would we want to exclude children?

No, no! It is about to be re-born! It will have proper management -- by us! We will actually have access to the server and the forum controls. Doesn't have to be called "code of conduct". Could be called "rules" or "guidelines" or whatever. It will be patterned after th...

Re: Forum hosting

Hi Friends, While the exact timing isn't known yet, in light of the recent outage of this forum (just a few days this time), those of us who have been working on it, think it's probably time to announce the plans. The Inkscape project and community as a whole, has recently acquired it's own servers ...

Re: Advice on the logo of the site

I'm not familiar with the Minecraft game, but aren't there all kinds of different characters? Maybe you could use one of those characters....well, if their images don't have a license which prevents you from using them. If you just want to recreate the one that's there (some kind of green character)...

Re: Eraser tool in a raster image

To answer your question directly, the Eraser tool won't work on raster images. Inkscape is a vector editor, and except for a very few ways, can't edit raster images.

Re: a basic issue

1 -- You could search for photos of what you want to draw (like maybe a gold brick or heavy chain necklace), import the photo into Inkscape, and use the Dropper tool to discover the colors. 2 -- Theoretically, the Tweak tool should be good for making the shredded looking outside of a coconut. But I'...

Yes, exactly for that existing bug report, is the reason I have not started using the Object Manager on a regular basis. So I can't confirm or even comment on the issues you mention. However, I don't see any reason not to go ahead and report these things, if others chime in and can reproduce them. W...

Re: Windows 10 programs do not update

While at best, the question is posted in the wrong forum (and at worst, spam), I will comment that the inability to control Windows 10 updates is one of the many reasons I ditched it, and reverted to Windows 7. Hope to switch to Linux soon.

a raster image editor can not correctely reduce or zoom graphic elements (letters, logos,.. ) When we zoom a point "." this will not give a big point"" o ") but the double of one point " . " is 4 points " :: ". I only gave a very brief answer, because un...

There are some little known selection techniques available. I think generally referred to as "touch select" http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Select.html Alt + drag mouse over the objects Shift + Alt + mouse drag https://inkscapecommunity.com/jd/vids/ts.mp4 (may be temporarily u...

Re: How to transform a picture to a given size

Yes. But you should know that if it's a raster image, it will become pixelated if you scale it. Inkscape is a vector editor, and not the best program for editing raster graphics. You should also realize that those 2 sizes are not the same proportions - meaning that it will look stretched either side...

Re: How I manipulate shape?

You could import that image into Inkscape, and trace it. There are 2 ways to trace -- trace "manually" with Pen/Bezier tool, or auto-trace with Path menu > Trace Bitmap.

Once you have it converted to vector, you can edit to look like the one at the referenced link.

Re: Can I use Inkscape as an adapter?

PDF can contain both raster (JPG, PNG, etc.) and vector (SVG, DXF, etc.) contents. (In case you didn't know.) If the PDFs you create will only contain raster contents, then Inkscape would not be the best choice, since Inkscape is a vector editor. However, if the "old plans" are in a vector...

Re: Issue in path effect editor

The reason the Width option is not there, is because the path is using the Powerstroke LPE. In previous versions of Inkscape, Triangle In/Out was using Pattern along Path LPE, which does have the Width option. But now, it's using Powerstroke. You can remove the Powerstroke, and apply Pattern Along P...

Re: Unwanted duplicated nodes

If the problem has to do with decimal places, there is a way to set the maximum. Inkscape Preferences > Input/Output > SVG Output > Numbers > Numeric Precision. At least, that's my best understanding of that option, is that it sets the max decimal places. When I check in my own test file, in the XML...

Re: Unwanted duplicated nodes

On Windows, I can reproduce it, but only in Ponny's file. I cannot reproduce it in my own file....although I don't completely understand the discussion of decimal places.

Ponny, what is your operating system? I seem to recall Mac, but my memory is not so dependable lately.
