Re: Scaled documents

This is the only documentation I know about (I wrote it the other day). It doesn't explain everything, but does inform how to change the units for your document. I would say this should work for 98% of users. (only if you want to do something like disproportional scale, should you do something diffe...

Re: How to create cloned/tiled cubes?

If you didn't need to have fill colors or shading/highlighting objects, blur, etc -- if you just needed the line drawing, you could assemble it with the least load by Y shaped paths for the center vertical column, and then sort of sideways Vs for the 2 faces. That ought to cut the file size in half....

Re: How to create cloned/tiled cubes?

This is one of those projects where I can use snapping and create a whole page-sized array of cubes (giant cube of cubes), much, much faster than figuring out how to configure the Tiled Clones dialog. Actually, I would used Tile Clones dialog to quickly create however many clones I need. Then manual...

Re: Is there an Inkscape command line tutorial?

Thanks @Moini, unfortunately I have Win7 and at the given link, there is not too much enlightening information. @brynn, I'm pretty sure that the page was completely loaded. And that's all the information which is available. Theozh, are you saying that the info on this page: https://inkscape.org/doc...

Re: increase/decrease object by a given border size ?

BTW… why a so strange scale=3.77953 ?? I've been trying to find out from developers why they did this bizarre (imo) and confusing thing with Inkscape units and the scale setting. The discussion is ongoing, and I haven't checked my mail yet today. But my current understanding, it sounds like the dec...

Re: Size and export / save (newbie)

Sometimes setting the canvas background opaque does not result in an opaque background for the image. In case it doesn't work, I would suggest this: 1 - draw a rectangle (1726 x 1040) 2 - if the fish needs to be larger, then scale it to the size you need 3 - select both the rectangle and the fish 4 ...

Re: paisley pattern

Now I've got one more question: - How can I change everything on a multi-coloured logo like this one to make certain elements of the logo be seen as a white transparent/white image (svg/png) to appear as a while in a transparent header??

I don't quite follow your question.

Re: Export layers to multiple files

I can't give you an answer about that. But I did find this extension: https://github.com/fluffware/export_layer_combinations If it exports layer combinations, I would guess that it could export one at a time. But you'd just have to test, to find out.

Re: Resizing Besier lne messes up it's shape

If the path is getting out of shape when scaled, it's probably that you have a Shape option enabled on the Pen/Bezier tool control bar. Switch it to None, to draw regular paths. You can fix the existing path without having to draw it again. Select it, then Path menu > Remove Path Effects. After that...

Re: Is there an Inkscape command line tutorial?

Maybe there was just a glitch when you tried to access the command line reference: https://inkscape.org/doc/inkscape-man.html I find the website is often slow, so maybe you just didn't give it enough time? When you tried, did it give you any error message?

Re: Moving Object into Group Changes Position

I haven't heard of such a bug. I would suggest just to pay close attention, and the next time you see this happening, share the SVG file with us, and tell us exactly what steps to take, to reproduce it. Are you dragging and dropping only within the Objects dialog? Or are you dragging to and from the...

Re: stroke to path with crossing lines - can't get it to do what I want

Oh, sorry for not explaining. LPE is Live Path Effects. Path menu > Path Effects. There must be 15 or 20 of them by now. Some of them do very simple things and some of them do very complex things, but there's a live aspect to all of them. So that after you apply the effect, you can adjust it from th...

Re: Need some hired help

I guess there's not really a dedicated board for that kind of thing here. I have a board for that on my forum (which is still quite small compared to this one). But I think the title of this topic should catch the attention of professional Inkscape designers. I know there are a few here. So maybe th...

Re: Need some hired help

Oops, forgot about the freedom.svg file. Yes, while there is only one layer in the file, the background rectangle was on top of almost everything else. So I just moved it to the back, and it's attached here. Edit The text "FREEDOM" is flowed text, which means it won't show up on the intern...

Re: Need some hired help

Didn't they give you any original SVG file? As far as the file Full (poppler-cairo import from pdf).svg, and the PDF file, I would not consider these files to be particularly "editable". Note that I'm not a professional, and in this case, depending on how much editing you want to do, I thi...

Re: Windows 10 install problem

If the directories are empty, then clearly the installation didn't work. Have you double-checked you downloaded the right file? I would suggest trying the installation again, and make sure to take note where Inkscape wants to install it. If it still doesn't work, please tell us which file you downlo...

Re: Help masking letters then putting it over another pic please?!

My first hunch is that the outline will need to be a separate object. But maybe not.

Could you share the SVG file with us? I think I understand what you're trying to do, but don't have time to search out a pictures of trees and bark, to make an example. Using your file would be faster :D

Here's my old avatar file, to show how the over/under needs to be handled. Ungroup and "take it apart", to see. Also it has a white fill and blue stroke. So you could change the fill color, to make it easier to understand. If I understand what you're doing, you would not use the blue borde...

If you need something that's more like a ribbon, Pattern Along Path might be an option. Or even draw the original line with the Calligraphy tool with the nib set at an angle.
