Re: PDF: White text, enormous black stroke, white parts missing

I don't have the proper expertise to decide whether something is a bug or not. I was just trying to provide some helpful info, to help you reach your goals, using some more traditional solutions. What I would say is that your solutions are surprising, interesting and creative, but unexpected. If the...

Re: How to export to XAML without <Path.Data>

I just did a test. When I use File menu > Save As > XAML, after I click Save, Inkscape gives a very small dialog, asking Silverlight compatible (XAML) or not. It's a checkbox.

I'm using the current stable version 0.92.2

Re: Different line width by path segment

It's not an easy "yes" or "no" question. We can't tell you what is best for you. But we can explain enough to help you decide. As far as I understand it, the reason for using the 64-bit version, is that it can take advantage of your multiple cores. However, for Inkscape, it's mos...

Re: PDF: White text, enormous black stroke, white parts missing

It looks like you might be exploring some different ways for achieving the effect you see with the huge stroke widths (referring to the file with linked offset problems). But there are probably more ways to do it. The simplest one I can think of, is to search for a font which might automatically loo...

Re: Strokes become spiky - why?

There are several situations you will come across in Inkscape, where Inkscape adds extra nodes, for no apparent reason (apparent to us, although I'm sure Inkscape's inner calculations were proper). Some of them are: Using Trace Bitmap, path offsets, Paint Bucket tool, Calligraphy tool, Eraser tool. ...

Re: Text "sticking" together

Well, even in the original post (a few years ago) no one ever provided files which displayed the issue, which we could test. I have no idea what is meant by the text sticking or linking together, or why it's a problem. Please provide an SVG file which is showing this problem, and describe it as well...

Re: PDF: White text, enormous black stroke, white parts missing

Sorry, I got sidetracked earlier. I saw a few bug reports about text exporting to PDF incorrectly, but none sounded (or looked) exactly like this. I'm not sure if it would be considered a bug or not. It looks more like using the really wide strokes is causing the problem. But fortunately, there's a ...

Re: PDF: White text, enormous black stroke, white parts missing

When I let the PDF dialog convert to paths, I still see the problem. But using either Union, or Object to Path, Ungroup, Combine, it doesn't happen. Somehow it's the Combine part (which Union does automatically) (which the PDF dialog apparently doesn't do) that seems to avoid the problem. I'll searc...

Re: PDF: White text, enormous black stroke, white parts missing

Well your strokes are already really wide in the SVG. 10 mm for the small text and 73 mm for the large letters. So the strokes do seem to be getting wider, but at first, I thought you meant it was a normal stroke (1 px, maybe 2 or 5 px). So it's not as severe as I thought at first. Hhmm, I can't fig...

Re: Different line width by path segment

I wonder if it's somehow connected to the strange display I sometimes see while scaling via mouse. Try attaching mp4.... guess not. This is just a Rectangle, but it looks very similar to what happens with the group -- except that when I stop dragging, the strange display resolves. https://inkscapeco...

Didn't do a deep search, but didn't find any bug report on a quick simple search.

I could make example file, but not sure why you need it (since you see the problem too).

Re: How to avoid distortions with Stroke to Path?

Oh ok. So you're thinking, the more nodes, the more calculations, the more rounding errors? Or if not rounding, then some other errors.

Thanks for explaining.

Re: PDF: White text, enormous black stroke, white parts missing

Yes, I see the huge strokes. Also Adobe Reader, exact same version.

Can you provide the SVG file too?

I opened the PDF in Inkscape, and the strokes are set to 100%. I just want to see the SVG, in case there's something we can identify that might be causing it.

Re: How to avoid distortions with Stroke to Path?

Isn't proximity of other nodes to be expected? How could you avoid it in the original use case here?

Edit
Well, proximity of which nodes? In the original use case, the 4 nodes at the intersection can't be avoided. But maybe you're thinking of other nodes?

the other topic acts a bit inconsistent. Possibly more misunderstood than inconsistent. We can embark on researching, if you like. (Object menu > Objects) I suppose we should wait to hear what happens when Lim3zer0 opens the Objects dialog. But I can't quite imagine how he or she was seeing individual objects or paths in the Layers dialog. I wonder if he or she might have already been using Objects dialog? Did the objects and p...

I think it should be fairly easy to find a different file manager (as I posted WAY above).

Let me DDG that for you: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=file+manager&t=ffsb

Do you know why is your guy having trouble finding one?

I can think of a way to use the Dropper tool to "fix" a gradient. Not precise, but if close enough it ok, it could work.

Re: Forming a gradient around an object

You're welcome. The only way I can think to make changing the colors faster, would be to find a palette which already has the colors you want to use. It needs to be a GPL palette, which is the same type of palette file that GIMP uses (which means there's a good chance of finding them). Or you could ...

Re: How to avoid distortions with Stroke to Path?

I don't have as severe distortions as you have produced, but I do some distortions when there should be none.

Should definitely be reported as a bug, if it hasn't been already.
