Re: SVG 2 Standard Endangered! (Mesh gradients and more)

The Wiki page for Mesh Gradients encourages to use Alt + M as the shortcut. A lot of keyboard shortcut apps work like that, you select/activate the action/command/app you want to change a shortcut for, and then simply type the shortcut out on the keyboard. It will be recognized and saved as the new ...

Re: SVG file format: default vs. needed for text flowed into frame

If I'm not mistaken Ctrl + S is Save, and it does this in whatever format the file is already saved as, for example if you Save as PDF, and then do Ctrl + S it will open up the PDF popup you always see when saving as PDF. But when I saved as Plain and then added some guides, and then saved, they wer...

Re: SVG file format: default vs. needed for text flowed into frame

Flowing text into frames isn't yet in SVG spec, this is only an Inkscape feature for now, IIRC it may enter SVG2. So when saving as Plain SVG these objects get converted to a normal Text object. I expect them to remain in the same place though, but with hard line breaks. I haven't used Connectors fo...

Re: Opposite effect needed.

The colored background seems to be a raster image, I would first recreate it as a vector object (2 triangles with fill color). Do you need help with that? Then I would use the paths of the inner wheel with the triangles to do a Path operation of Intersection. You may need to duplicate some paths to ...

Re: Canvass vs. Document

Welcome to the forum :) Inkscape SVG remembers all the useful helper bits that aren't exactly part of the drawing, like grids, guides etc. Plain SVG stores the entire drawing, only without the helper bits. Since vector drawings are actually mathematical equations they are drawn across an infinite co...

Re: Rotating an object moves it

It could be that you've moved the center of rotation of that object outside of the object center, so it moves along a huge circle when you try to rotate. Or it's inside a group that can some transforms applied, is the object within a group? What happens when you copy the object into a new clean docu...

Re: Coordinate system in millimeters

In Inkscape you can set default units per document, I expect transforms and other relevant operations would follow that setting, although I haven't checked. There is probably a guideline in Inkscape programming how to handle units. You'll probably get an answer here, but just in case you don't try e...

Re: Improved performance for large number of nodes

Where exactly do you need 10000 nodes? Simply by looking at it doesn't seem like it would strain the system too much, there must be a huge number of objects, do you need such detail?

Have you tried working in outline mode? Ctrl + number 5 on numerical keyboard to switch between modes.

Re: SVG 2 Standard Endangered! (Mesh gradients and more)

Here's Tav's update on the meshes in trunk (that is after the 0.92pre): https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/item/10241/ Nov 04 12:26:18 <Tavmjong> One thing we can do is to ship 0.92 with mesh gradients enabled. I've spent a bit of time in the last couple of weeks improving the GUI. I've fixed the undo ...

Can't wait to test the new juicy tools :D IIUC the new features (meshes in particular) aren't enabled in 0.92pre version, but you have to compile from the latest code to have them enabled and tested. Are there any instructions on how to compile a new Inkscape version locally into a separate folder, ...

Clipping sees things in blank and white, either included or excluded.

If you want similar operation but the one that sees grayscale so you can have softer transitions, look into masking

Re: How can I make this rounded rectangle more trapezoidal?

One other idea: create two circles, one that matches the outside edge on top, and the other to match the outside edge at the bottom, union them (this will make it a path with nodes), add more nodes so you have more options to choose (select all nodes and use the Insert nodes option several times), t...

Yes upload the SVG, I'm sure you'd get a lot of help, practical or otherwise.

Have you searched through openclipart? Maybe there you can find something close to what you're looking for.

In my experience Inkscape is super fast, but I am on Linux, maybe it has something to do with it, and my CPU is 3.5GHz. I have Adobe Fireworks on a mac but it's super slow compared to Inkscape on Linux! I expect increasing the CPU power will improve your experience significantly, not the core count ...

Re: Save As PDF: resulting PDF is empty

The ellipse you created has a transform applied to it. When I remove the transform the ellipse is displayed well above the page area, and it isn't a circle. I don't know why this transform is affecting the PDF export, maybe that's a bug. But you can easily fix it by deleting that ellipse and creatin...

It's not empty, only the ellipse is missing, but since everything else (markings and text) is white it seems invisible. I haven't figured out yet why the ellipse disappears.

Is it also in SVG 2? Here is some more information about SVG support in Inkscape (scroll down to How does Inkscape implement SVG?) Sounds like a very nice feature, to have flowed objects within text. Maybe a discussion on the developer mailing list would be more lively, have you tried there? Or the ...

Re: How to shine B&W background through a shape

My logic was that the effect depends heavily on the background behind the object, it's less of an effect done to the object. But Color sounds good as well. Can a filter decide the objects colors if they are originally in grayscale? I don't see how that would work, although v1nce might save the day a...

yup lol, resized the group using the arrow on the sides of the group. Stroke gets adjusted every time. Do you happen to have a file with an example?
