Re: Is it possible to put the text in the PATH in this case ?

Does it have to be the exact text object you have in the file with three lines? And shorter text object for shorter lines? I think you can do it more or less easily with Text > Put on Path. http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Text-Path.html First you need to do some work on your "brain...

I request the Full circle and http://vektorrascheln.de/posts/2015/Dec/inkscape-fuer-einsteiger-teil-i-grundlagen-en.html be stickied (Brynn you have an image there that is an example of vector vs raster, you needed it somewhere IIRC). How do you sticky anyway? I may have lost my skills to forum prop...

Re: Paste into Layer

Zolotoy are you coming from raster graphics world? That is where layers are manipulated as main carriers of the image. In the vector world (Inkscape is a vector editor) the situation is different, simpler even: here we manipulate objects directly. If you want an object to look like it's part of anot...

Re: Saving a Vectorized Image

PDF saves your vector objects as vector objects, without losing quality. PNG format is a raster type. You can set the quality by adjusting the dpi setting in the export dialogue (see where tylerdurden linked you where it says 90). If you set it to too low the PNG will be of low quality. What number ...

Re: Filling figures

I still don't understand what you need to draw. Is it to recreate above image in an SVG document? It's very easy to create lines and rectangles in Inkscape. Or do you need to fill an object with some sort of a pattern? Maybe we're not thinking of the same "pattern" definition? Or do you ne...

Yes, there is a toolbar button on the Tools toolbar when Selector tool is active. It is the first button of 4 in group that control other properties when transforming objects.

Re: Filling figures

I'm guessing "whole figures" means the device only takes a small part of the image you feed it. Try applying these to a rectangle and see if that's something you need: Extensions > Generate from Path > Voronoi pattern... Filters > Distort > Pixel Smear Filters > Distort > Swirl Filters > I...

jeannez try creating a smaller circle than the one used for the rim, and put the text on that smaller helper circle. This way the text will overlap the rim "circle" and when you do a union of text with the rim it will join everywhere needed, if you set the helper circle and font size just ...

Re: Cannot paste bitmap to some software

The image I see in your document is the "Linked image not found" image. You seemed to have linked to your image from Inkscape instead of embedding it. I'm not sure how Inkscape handles copying image types to clipoard, but there are extensions for extracting imaged out of SVG. Try under Ext...

Welcome to the forum! What exactly do you mean? Do you want to create a black and white line drawing, that you can then print so it can be colored on paper? Or do you want Inkscape to fill the shapes with color? Inkscape can do both ;) If you want to create line shapes in Inkscape start with Pencil ...

Re: Converting an image to EPS

Your PDF seems to have exported paths (vector), because you get smooth lines at such a tight zoom. Your trace probably went ok :) The EPS sounds problematic, most likely hasn't exported as vector paths. I remember other users also having problems with EPS not exporting as vector objects. It's probab...

Re: inkscape and mindmap

Welcome to the forum! You can create the same drawing with Inkscape as with xmind, but Inkscape doesn't have all the features xmind has so it might take you a bit more time with Inkscape to achieve the same thing. Which of the features are you mostly interested in? Connectors? Colors and styling? Te...

Re: Weird edges on shapes

I wish I had a .48 installed to test this, I can't escape the feeling that it behaved exactly the same as you're describing, grouped objects transform "insides" as well, and meter limit can be set to 0 for the same effect. I like having the flexibility of both options, and as previously li...

Re: HELP! Inkscape distorting images when moved

Can you share your old preferences.xml? It might be useful for developers to take a look and see what might have caused problems, or for future reference if this problem pops up again. I once had a situation when Inkscape behaved a bit odd that went away with clean preferences, and devs found that i...

It's a bit hard to visualize what the problem might be. Can you share a bit more information, maybe the file or a simplified version of the file with the problematic object? Are you aware if it is a drawing problem or about your cutter settings? It seems like it starts to do what you want it to do, ...

Wow that's some testimonial! I'm curious: what did you use before Inkscape, what were the problems and how did Inkscape solve them? The community of people who use Inkscape in practical projects seems to be growing very fast, and we need to see how we can help them specifically. They're probably not...

Re: Text for Monogram

Yes it can sometimes be confusing, because strokes are just "visual decorations" on a maths object. So when you do operations on those objects you can get unexpected results, parts disappearing, or strokes being applied on unexpected areas. A good tip (especially for cutters) is to remembe...

A vector graphics opinionated virus  I hope it's nothing like that. What happens with a new preferences.xml?

Are you sure you just haven't changed any settings lately? Plugged in different devices that may have changed anything?

Maybe there is some setting on your Surface pro that is affecting things inside Inkscape. I can't think of anything else, if we are on the same page with the file you sent. What kind of a stylus? Maybe it has movement connected with transform? Brynn you are correct with the precision, but it only af...

Thank you! Dummy file is all it takes, even easier to track down bugs.

But I don't have any problems with moving objects in that file, or copying them into a new file.

Do you have problems moving the objects in the dummy file? What exactly happens?

Re: multiple colorspaces

I'm not that familiar with .eps, but I expect it should be vectors when you export. Instead you do have a raster image in that .eps. Did you keep the original Inkscape SVG? (You should always work on original/native application format, and exports into other formats as needed, like for printing.) Ma...
