Re: Trace Bitmap

I agree with Brynn, for this particular case I would even use Rectangle tool to create two long rectangles (or one and then double it and rotate) then Union them into a single cross object, and snap to grid to make it easier.

Re: Help with cutting between layers?

I may be misreading this in a huge way, but to me it sounds like you're just confused because you're coming from raster context that manipulates layers primarily. Although Inkscape has layers too, you don't have to use them at all to be able to order things on Z axis. Inkscape deals with objects dir...

Re: Introduction

Ohai Bryce! Great to see you here! I'm curious: do you spend more time using Inkcsape or building it? I think a lot of people may be wondering that about developers. How come Inkscape turned out to be so intuitive to use? How did programming and decisioning go in the early days? Could you please sha...

You can also use your mouse wheel to click on canvas and drag around, if you use such a device ;)

Re: Has Inkscape fixed it's ppi issue yet?

Inkscape is a vector graphics application, to simplify we can say it deals with maths equations and not pixel grids. This means you can consider the PPI of the initial document setup in Inkscape as infinite! When exporting the drawing to a raster graphics format or when sending it to be printed, PPI...

Re: Inkscape or GIMP - which is best for my project

I'm using Calc 4.2. Do you know if it's something to do with the Calc version? A new feature? I can't find anything that rings a bell under 5.2 new features. It may have been implemented earlier.

Re: Embed SVG

There are some great resources out there about each method, and when you should use one or the other. You said interactivity - but in which way? Visitors interacting with your drawing or maybe just animating the SVG? Because the issue is so complex it's not possible to write it up in a forum post, b...

This can also help:

You can search, select and import a drawing from openclipart right from inside your Inkscape by going to "File > Import Clip Art...".

Re: Inkscape or GIMP - which is best for my project

Have you tried contacting their support? I doubt they would limit that, maybe there's a catch you just need to adjust in your settings. Was the area you were trying to capture large enough? I'm on Linux so I'm out of the loop there, but I sometimes use Shutter when I need heavy stuff. Here are some ...

Re: Inkscape or GIMP - which is best for my project

For the tables I would just use a spreadsheet app like Libre Office Calc, then use some screengrab app you have on your computer to take a screenshot. Stretch the window fullscreen and zoom in to get the biggest screenshot, for printing quality. But yes definitely Inkscape for the illustrations, tha...

I agree with Moini, if you want precice mathematical overlapping of curves edges you're better of using Path operations ;)

Wow this looks awesome!

Do you have a transcript or at least a short list of steps you followed in the video? It would help to have that on top of the documentation inside the extension.

Re: Concept suggestions

Tiled clones can react with opacity and color, have you tried it? To make the drawing appear only inside the area of a path you can use Clipping: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Clip-Clipping.html or maybe you want to create a pattern out of the group: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/M...

There are more approaches to this. I love DigiKam for photos, I've never tried it for SVGs. If you don't mind sharing with other people you can upload to openclipart https://openclipart.org/ You can create a library of symbols: Creating symbol libraries in Inkscape https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd...

Re: Bucket Fill Woes

Your object doesn't have a fill or stroke to start with (Unset doesn't provide information to Bucket about the edges it needs to calculate the area to color). If you set the stroke to the same color you see as Unset (black), Bucket will fill the area. Other than that make sure the Threshold and othe...

Re: Paint over a part of a shape (path)

Welcome to the forum! In vector drawings the most important concept are objects. Your drawing consists of many objects, some overlap, but the drawing isn't just one object that gets painted over. So to get the cheeks I would create a new object of the shape you want, and color it differently from yo...

Re: Overlapping strokes

Try looking at the bottom of this page http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/IsometricProjection.html This is a 3D box example that shows the same problem, and it seems to be the placement of the Rotation center. It should be in the middle of the stroke, not at the edge of the Bounding box. D...
