Re: make inches the default automatically on opening Inkscape

You need to set a custom default template, from a document that has the settings you need.
See, for example, http://libregraphicsworld.org/blog/entr ... n-inkscape .

Re: Question on creating a font file (svg to tff)

Yes. Put them right on top of each other when you 'take curves from selection'. You could align their left edges, for example.

For fine-tuning the space between two letters, either use fontforge, or use the kerning feature in the other tab.

Re: a basic issue

1. Try to take a couple images on openclipart apart (download SVG, open with Inkscape): https://openclipart.org/search/?query=gold 2. The node tool, or the extensions 'add nodes' and 'jitter nodes', or the tweak tool could be used for this. 3. With filters, maybe (non-filter examples are also includ...

Re: Eraser tool in a raster image

You can clip areas in raster images [1] - but, tbh. I'd suggest using a panorama-creation software for a task like this, that would also take care of perspective and color differences. Hugin, for example, is an excellent tool.

Re: Question on creating a font file (svg to tff)

1. You can use imported vector shapes, if you need those. For drawing proper lines, learn about the Bézier tool and the Node tool (or change the amount of smoothing for the pencil tool): http://write.flossmanuals.net/start-with-inkscape/_draft/the-pen-tool/ http://write.flossmanuals.net/start-with-i...

Re: Question on creating a font file (svg to tff)

1. Suggestion: Use fontforge (https://fontforge.github.io/) for the conversion instead of some website.
2. Here's another guide for creating SVG fonts: http://write.flossmanuals.net/start-wit ... ing-fonts/

Re: Scribus finds fonts which Inkscape doesn't

It's a known issue that some font variants can't be found. Inkscape has issues with Roboto, too, for example. It's supposed to get better with the next major version. If you look for known issues, better look in the bug tracker: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1555109 https://bugs.launchpad...

Re: Unwanted colour changes

1. Put all colors you need into your file (i.e. one object of each color you want). 2. Open Edit > Preferences > System and note the directory where it says "User configuration". 3. Go to Save copy as..., select 'Gimp palette (.gpl)' in the bottom right corner. 4. Navigate to the folder yo...

Re: Select objects by overlap with path

I've found myself in the situation of needing that feature a couple of times, and I've read several others asking for it, so yes, I think it's worthwhile requesting it.

Feature requests as well as bug reports go here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape

Re: Select objects by overlap with path

If you only care about the looks, then you could do 'stroke to path' and then intersect (Edit: Nonsense, would give you the same visual result as 'clip', sorry!). Else, the eraser tool isn't so bad at removing things, just keep a copy of the 'star' (or whatever) on top. I don't know of any available...

No, you're right, it's not fixed. It will be fixed in the next major version, because for it, those sliders have been rewritten from scratch.

Not sure it shows too well: the first menu item TD selects, Path > Object to Path, is the most important info, I guess.

Re: Unwanted duplicated nodes

It describes how Inkscape saves the coordinates of paths. It can either add a 'transform' around it, when an object is moved (something that basically says 'this path at location x,y is now moved by 10 cm to the left'), or it can recalculate the node positions and save those to the file. Absolute - ...

Re: Convert Dotted Stroke to Fill in Inkscape

???? Works for me. They converted to path in Inkscape 0.91 and they still do in Inkscape 0.92.3.
If they don't, it's a bug.

Can you please share the SVG file?

Re: Unwanted duplicated nodes

Yep, I get no duplicates whatsoever in the status line. It's 8 and 168 and remains exactly that.
Maybe it's a Win/Linux difference?

The number nodes extension finds 9 nodes, though, just like it does for you, with node 9 being directly beside node 1.

Re: Unwanted duplicated nodes

FWIW, I do not get any duplicated nodes on Ctrl+D, then moving with mouse to the right - but that's what I was supposed to do, right?

If you want to compare to see if it's a preferences issue, here's my preferences file:
