Re: When tracing a transparent bitmap, the unvectorized image still exists behind the vectorized one.

For me, it's one of the first things I do on every new installation :) I rarely need to move windows around by clicking directly inside. Weird thing is that Alt+Tab and many other shortcuts still work, but Alt also works in Inkscape. Maybe it was always somehow broken...? Ah - no: I found the reason...

Re: Save as pdf+latex causes crash

leonson, could it be that this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1464987 corresponds to your problem?

(Check for the flowPara thing in your file, see comment #2)

As far as I understand, those are now the fonts your system provides if asked for the font-family, so depend on your operating system. But I'm not entirely sure if I got it correctly...

ad 1.) You can also reassign the window modifier key to something other than Alt in your settings, so all shortcuts using Alt will work.

The bug has already been fixed by suv, the fix will be available in the next Inkscape version.

Re: Export to plt not working in Windows 10

This doesn't look like it is the same problem as hulf has (to me...). Seems your svg file does not contain a width attribute. For more info, see this and related bug reports (it's a common problem with extensions / specific svg files in 0.91): https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1463623 I think...

Re: how to imitate 'hue' blending using filters?

It's got nothing to do with raster vs. vector - it's just that the current SVG specs do not support other blending modes via feBlend (filters), like v1nce wrote. But it's possible via CSS styles (mix-blend-mode, not sure if Inkscape would render that, though - probably not...) There's a W3C draft / ...

Re: Inkscape Python Union

The python extensions can either 'talk' to Inkscape and ask it to do something using the built-in Inkscape routines, or they can make the changes in the document themselves. So, both are possible ;) Not sure why this would need an extension, if it's only a single file that needs editing, that's why ...

Re: Inkscape Python Union

There's a multi-ungroup extension here: https://github.com/cw/inkscape-ungroup-deep (but instead of downloading, installing, restarting, then finding and using the extension to ungroup, it might be quicker to just select the groups (all of them), hit Ctrl+U or Ctrl+Shift+G to ungroup repeatedly unti...

Re: Inkscape keeps zoomed after closing and reopening a file

Quick solution (as suggested by tylerdurden):

Just press the 4 on your numpad after opening the document to zoom to the full drawing.
(for other preset zooms, see https://inkscape.org/en/doc/keys091.html#d0e830)

Re: Export as JPG?

How a raster image is displayed when it is enlarged beyond it's natural resolution depends entirely on the program you use to look at it, not on the program you used to create it (in this case, it's Photoshop's rendering engine that makes it first blurry, then blocky). There exists an extension that...

Re: Creating "network" Clouds for Diagrams

@brynn: small correction: 2d animations do not require raster images, vector images work just as well or sometimes even better.
2D just means it's flat, just like a rotating square would be (and not a rotating cube ;) )

Re: where to find a howto on creating g-code from svg?

There are probably tons of info about how to use that, but you'll find it in the maker forums, not so much in Inkscape-related forums... I think Instructables (instructables.com) has many, many tutorials related to this. See http://www.google.de/search?q=instructables.com+gcodetools+inkscape&gws...

Re: How to disable stroke pattern in Inkscape0.48

Hi nihon94,

this is not a bug, it's greyed out because no stroke is set or the object is not selected.

Select the object that has a stroke, or, if that doesn't work, look into the second tab ("flat color") and activate the second button at the top there to give it a stroke.

Re: Work and layer disappeared

I don't think imgh.us or email will work for a file of that size. Many mail providers set their limits at 20 Mb. You'd have to split the file for sending in several mails, if you know how to do that... Guess it's just the calligraphy tool, which isn't suited for this task... :/, and maybe an importe...

Re: How to disable stroke pattern in Inkscape0.48

@nihon94 : in my Inkscape translation (German) it says 'Pattern' for the stroke style, too ;) - guessing was easy here. If you use a non-English Inkscape version, you can switch the interface language like this (to see what something would be called in the original English version, so it will be rea...

Re: embedding fonts for web publishing

Font embedding into Inkscape's SVGs doesn't work, but you could add the font file to your website and link to it from the CSS you are using - or even directly from inside the SVG... Didn't try it, but there should be a way of using CSS and the SVG file and the font files. Ah - here's an article: htt...

Re: Can't rectangle select parts in this drawing

You can name groups inside Inkscape, Old Grey, if that is what the 'silkscreen' and 'copper' things are supposed to be.

Right-click on a group, select 'Object Properties' and change the ID (or maybe one of the other attributes, I don't know which one Fritzing may want to have the correct name).

I think you might be referring to the stroke style (dashes, dots,...). Just select the one from the list that looks like a straight line. It must be near the top or at the top of the list.

Re: locking layers

Sometimes, the current layer isn't displayed correctly (at least I experience this quite often, the layers dialog doesn't always seem to update correctly in 0.91). That could also cause someone to think the object is in a different layer than where it actually is. The layer info in the status bar at...

If there's no specific reason for keeping a version that is > 4 years old, it's recommendable to switch to the latest Inkscape version, or at least to 0.48.5.
