Re: apply random colour from palette to objects

You could just select one third of your stars, give them a color, repeat for the other two thirds, then distribute the stars randomly (if it doesn't matter where exactly they are).

Else the touch selection might be useful. Hold Alt and drag mouse to select objects that are touched by mouse.

Re: Color shift when importing .eps Stock image in Windows

That's not all there is - the colors are still looking different in Inkscape. The eps file is in CMYK. So, yes, it is at least in part the color profile. Opened in Scribus or in a pdf viewer, the colors are correct. So, a working workaround is: - open the EPS file with Scribus - export to SVG - open...

I think it's best to start small, then improve. Everything else will overwhelm the person who is asked to work on it.
So, think, what would be the minimum, yet still extensible version? It's all about smart planning.

Glad I got you talking filter editor again (personally, I can't really say much about it, it's not a part of Inkscape that I use for more than for extending the filter region if it has shrunk for some ominous reason). This sounds really productive. The more info you can assemble, the easier it will ...

Good luck, then, Iva!

If I had to guess how you made it, I'd say you used the Mirror LPE twice. Is this how you made it?

Re: HTML Canvas export problem

You need to set the 'Scale' value to 1, and then resize your drawing (it will shrink to just a quarter of its size, so you need to select it, lock the aspect ratio, and divide either width or height by the value that was in the scale field before you entered '1' there. This should give you correct v...

For those interested in changing the filter editor interface: When updating the release notes, I noticed that actually, the filter editor interface *is* already editable by people without programming knowledge. The release notes draft says it's already using a glade file, and I can confirm that ther...

Re: How do I export a 24-bit PNG?

Given that Inkscape currently uses hex color values to save the colors, and gradients and filters are the only way it would be possible to get other colors, and I think they don't, which is why Lazur is worrying about gradient banding and dithering, theoretically, at least, the max number of colors ...

Re: How to free rotate an object programmatically?

I meant that you would need to write that extension. Although, I have just learned of an extension that might be able to do exactly that, if you make it add transform attributes. Rotation shouldn't cause any problems (hopefully), in contrast to moving/scaling etc. http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewto...

Re: How to transform a rectangle into a segment?

^ Didn't think of that, but it's true. Only it won't work if the path is actually a group (only works with single paths) - one would need to combine, and later break apart again, to be able to fix colors etc of the contained objects. Or one would need to have multiple paths, and put each object on a...

@v1nce Maybe you'd like to join Lazur to design a UI that would fit well with Inkscape? You'd also need to consult with a dev (if you're not a Gtk dev yourself, I have no idea), so you can know what is possible within the toolkit Inkscape is using. Lazur would know whom to contact.

Yes! Thank you, Pelle. These explanations are understandable. So it can replace colors, text etc., potentially even paths? Or is it limited to a subset of attributes? It seems to hold many hidden gems. Please, please share it on inkscape.org! I think the second paragraph here (http://www.inkscapefor...

Re: How to transform a rectangle into a segment?

To get a more correct segment (if you need it), you could create a circle with a very wide stroke, then use the round handles to make the circle into an arc of the necessary size, then do Path > Object to path. This will not transform the rectangle, though, but create a new one - not sure if that wi...
