Re: convert svg to jpg

It's exactly the other way around: If you convert to jpg, you will lose quality, because jpg introduces artifacts, while png saves all the pixels losslessly. You can change the dpi setting in the export dialog for png. File -> Export PNG Image -> Image size -> set the dpi value to something of at le...

Re: Printing keyboard shortcut icons onto silicone keyboard cover?

Seems there exist special paints for painting masks (as in Halloween masks and movie props).

Re: Printing keyboard shortcut icons onto silicone keyboard cover?

So it needs to be flexible, and durable enough to survive wet or dirty fingers?...
Perhaps spray-painting with a stencil? But silicone is made to be non-stick... You could sew them on... Or use press buttons...

Or you could just make a separate layer where you make your designs, and then lock or unlock the other layer, and select with node tool instead of selection tool for aligning. You can't accidentally move things with the node tool.

Re: Inkscape Tutorial in Full Circle Magazine

Great read! You must have experimented quite a lot, to find out all of that. Have you thought of telling Jabier and / or the inkscape-devel mailing list about your observations about usability and language, Xav? He is usually investing a lot of time into improving LPE stuff. He's also welcoming help...

Re: How to lock objects so they can't be moved but still be able to align to them?

They are hard to select if you can't find them in the objects dialog, yes - labelling them would be another option, if there are lots of objects. Then they'd also be easy to select in objects dialog. Searching will work, too, of course.

Re: How to lock objects so they can't be moved but still be able to align to them?

Hah, I used Shift for multi-select, better use Ctrl, then it won't jump (or rather, select contiguous lists of objects).

Re: How to lock objects so they can't be moved but still be able to align to them?

You should be able to lock all objects at once (e.g. via a common layer for the affected objects - I just found that locking doesn't really work as expected via objects dialog, in its right-click menu). You do not need to unlock them to be able to align them, if you select them via objects dialog. F...

And the grab distance can be changed, too, in that same dialog. You may need to experiment a bit to get the best settings for yourself.

Re: Seamless Pattern - pythonw.exe error

If you're experiencing issues with the python that comes with Inkscape, it might be that you haven't uninstalled the previous version completely. There was an issue with the uninstaller for some previous version on Windows. Can you try if uninstalling Inkscape completely, then reinstalling it includ...

Can you explain to us how you draw (which tool, what settings)?
Also, have you updated Inkscape and that was when it changed? Which Inkscape version, which operating system?

Re: How can I setting import option to poppler/cairo via command line?

Correct. It doesn't work at the moment - but it might, wenn https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1507740 is fixed (then it will load the settings from your preferences file).

Re: automate text input from .txt and place in inkscape?

It's not a totally unusual request, I've seen this asked a couple of times. It's probably not even too difficult to do... I'd make the script create the text in the standard font size first, then I'd ask Inkscape how wide the text is, and then, if too wide, I'd scale it down. Then center on object w...

Re: Changing colour within a Outline

Or perhaps the 'outline' is already a filled shape (i.e. there are nodes on both sides of the contour)? Then breaking it apart (Path -> Break apart), deleting the inner or outer object, and adding a stroke to the object and a fill will work?

If you use a CSV file instead, you can use the Generator extension:

For usage instructions, see linked example files.

Re: Dynamically adjusting the width of a stroke which surrounds a fill

There exists a solution for this, using the PowerStroke LPE in conjunction with another path that has another live path effect applied to it (Clone original, Fill between Strokes or Fill between many). Unfortunately, this functionality is broken in 0.92.2... (at least for me) This is how they are /s...

Re: Managing colours in palette or swatch question

The mailing list user experience is a topic that is known, and there are some ideas how it can be fixed (which will make them look like a forum), but they depend on new server infrastructure, which we do not have at the moment, but which people are working on trying to get by asking for sponsors. Se...
