Re: Previous zoom feature of Grave/Acute Accent

These character names seem to stem from the X11 world (but I didn't yet verifiy that & google for an annotated list) - I used an xterm and the command 'xev' to figure out the previous two (dollar, asterisk)... output for '/', '|' and '\': KeyRelease event, serial 29, synthetic NO, window 0xa0000...

Re: Previous zoom feature of Grave/Acute Accent

Ok, I forgot to check the Italian keyboard layout (Preferences > Input Menu) on my MBP 15.4". I'll attach a sample default.xml that maps 'Zoom previous' to the dollar sign '$' left of the 'enter' key, and the 'Zoom next' shortcut to the asterisk '*' (= Shift + $). Put the file into '~/.inkscape...

Re: trim a line

Use 'Path > Revert' on the duplicated path you want to trim - this leaves the other side of the path (outside the circle).

Re: changing page size

There is an invisible rectangle (no fill, undefined stroke) with the size of the page, that prevents the size change.

Reopen the drawing, use Shift + TAB to select the rectangle, re-size or delete it and then try again to shrink the page size via Document Properties.

Re: Inkscape Extension implementation difficulties

There's a new extension called 'Guides Creator' included in the upcoming 0.47 (and current dev builds), which - besides offering different presets for the creation of guides - also has the option to remove all existing guides.

Re: Mac OS X Tiger and Inkscape 0.47?

You could ask on the inkscape-devel mailing list or contact JiHO (current Leopard development snapshot builds) or Michael Wybrow (current Leopard 0.47pre0 builds) through launchpad? It would be great if your dmg could be uploaded to sourceforge.net!

Re: Inkscape Extension implementation difficulties

The xml hint was kindof a random shot - I've no skills in that aera, and reading about it only gave me some abstract understanding... Glad it makes more sense to you ;-)

btw - have you seen or tried the Inkscape Extension: Remove Guides from heathenx?

there is one for Relax NG. Does inkscape.extension.rng work for you? I remember it mentioned when scanning the archives of the inkscape-devel mailinglist

just a typo in 'clear_all_guides.inx': s/extenions/extensions/ and no more extension-errors.log messages ;-) [edit] menu entry is ok, but no guides are cleared, even when I adapt the absolute path reference in the python file to my system (on OS X 10.5.7, there are no inkscape files installed in '/u...

Re: finding similar objects

There's a workaround for selecting objects with the same color or other attributes. The comments to this bug report (Select All by Stroke or Fill Color) describe ways to select similar objects not obvious at first site - using a combination of the built-in XML editor and the 'Find…' function in the ...

Re: Previous zoom feature of Grave/Acute Accent

In my experience this is an issue with non-querty keyboard layouts. Some of the standard keys used for Inkscape keyboard shortcuts can only be reached with a modfier key (Shift or Option) which in turn might trigger a different shortcut command. I assume you have a qwertz-layout with special charact...

Re: Rotating center positioning

In the 'Align and Distribute...' dialog, you can position the selected elements (as a group or individually) relative to the page - e.g. centered. Or you could use the extension 'Extensions > Render > Guides creator…' to easily construct a grid of guides relative to the page geometry. Then use 'Snap...

Re: Inkscape doesn't run on my Mac

Font support has improved a lot in the newer dev versions, internally (pango/cairo libraries) and in the Gui - the dropdown list in the font toolbar just recently got rewritten and improved, the user fonts in ~/Library/Fonts are included again - so, with some luck the soon to be released 0.47 might ...

Re: Inkscape doesn't run on my Mac

Yes, usually these Gui font issues are related to X11 and GTK+ settings. X11/XQuartz changed how it internally sets the dpi value (from 75 to 96 dpi). Did you recently update your system to 10.5.7 (this ships with a newer X11 version) or install a current XQuartz version? For GIMP I will shamelessly...

Re: Inkscape doesn't run on my Mac

maybe to cut things short: inkscape does use its own font (caching) system. so 1) disabling a font in FontBook doesn't help Inkscape, you have to remove the font from all possible locations (/Library/Fonts, /System/Library/Fonts, ~/Library/Fonts). 2) If the font was broken, Inkscape needs to rebuild...

Could you open 'Console.app' (in Applications/Utilities), select 'All Messages' (menu 'View' > 'Show Log List', top most entry in console window sidebar) and look for any messages related to X11, Xquartz and Inkscape? Report back with whatever you find. It might also be useful to know more about the...

Does relinking the clone to the object on the clipboard work for you when you change the X11 preferences as recommended in the FAQ? If the copy is created as a bitmap, relinking cannot work.

see the updated FAQ: it's an issue with X11 settings to sync the clipboards between X11 and OS X apps.
