Re: Why does Inkscape retain font info when text is converted to path?

Although it would be nice if this hidden feature could be switched on/off. There are built-in options to remove certain attributes and style properties if improper, inappropriate or non-useful - look at the details of the options in 'Preferences > Input/Output > SVG Output' . The (unwanted) font st...

Re: Text on path, new behaviour

I have no idea how that would need to be implemented, or what the GUI would need to look like, though... sorry about that. It's tricky. Did you look at the section describing text-put-on-path in the SVG2 CR? As far as I understand there has been one special case added in SVG2 for paths with a singl...

No. You misunderstood. And I should not have mentioned the extension (it was an off-topic example brought up because it uses the same concepts (3 presets for quick usage, and options to define offset and alignment explicitly)).

Re: Text on path, new behaviour

It's not easy to understand for a user who just wants to change the alignment why it cuts off the text. Text alignment and startOffset are independent attributes/features which affect the layout of a text put on path. If you want to forecfully link the two in all cases all the time, you deny users ...

Re: Text on path, new behaviour

Would the interactive adjustment of the offset then qualify as a feature request? I don't understand - a GUI option already exists in the 'Text and Font' dialog to adjust the offset of the position of the text anchor along the path numerically [1]. A on-canvas method to adjust the offset is part of...

Re: Text on path, new behaviour

You can verify that in the Text and Font dialog (it has a GUI since Inkscape 0.91 to adjust the offset of the text anchor along the path). There's a minor update flaw with that GUI option in the Text and Font dialog: if a text put on path does not explicitly define the 'startOffset' attribute (it t...

Re: Text on path, new behaviour

What Inkscape does when it puts text which is formatted as 'center aligned' prior to being put on path is to position the text (its anchor) at a 50% offset along the path (see SVG spec ). You can verify that in the Text and Font dialog (it has a GUI since Inkscape 0.91 to adjust the offset of the te...

Re: unofficial 0.92.1 DMG test version (for Macs)

There were seemingly 3 choices available for download and, initially, I did not know which one would be the one to try, so, as a guess I used the one with ‘Pre’ at the end and it seems to work just fine. The one with the 'pre' in its name is the earliest and most outdated of the three uploads. The ...

This is not a bug - this is how the SVG specification defines it (a undefined fill is rendered solid black [*], a undefined stroke is the same as 'None' [*]).

Re: Inkscape fails to open .ai vector image file

Inkscape could not open the EPS version of the file either. This is no surprise - Inkscape requires Ghostscript to be installed to open PostScript files (PS, EPS), and Ghostscript is not included in the Inkscape packages for OS X. Mac users can apply the same workaround as described earlier: open t...

Re: Inkscape fails to open .ai vector image file

In most cases, AI files that don't load directly in Inkscape had been created in the older PostScript -based Illustrator format (same file ending, different file format). You can open such files from within Inkscape (menu 'File > Open') by choosing the correct file type in Inkscape's file chooser di...

Re: PLT / HPGL

It seems like it's been recently realized there's a problem opening and saving PLT files, in 0.92 For what it's worth: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1658260 JFTR - Opening/Saving as HPGL (and 'Extensions > Export > Plot') does not use UniConvertor, and is not affected by that bug.

Yes, you are more fortunate than I am, it seems. nihon94 uses an older version of Inkscape (0.48.5 probably), where the preview image in Inkscape's native (Windows) file chooser dialogs still worked (an indicator that the screeenshot shows an older version of Inkscape is the missing icon for the Me...

Re: Manjaro Linux: Missing icons even when using a custom icons.svg in the user home directory

This is not a bug in Inkscape - Inkscape is being a good citizen here and prefers named icons from the desktop gtk icon theme if provided over its own icons (so that users see the same icon for the same actions, or actions that refer to the same icon name, across applications). The desktop icon them...
