Re: Object Manager Mysteries

This confusion is why working in the XML, while challenging at first, eventually makes more sense than trying to condense it into an object dialog but of course that is water under the bridge now

Re: Trying to use Inkscape making a Rectangle box

It's also not designed to be a toy or a game, IMO. The "turn it on and see what happens" approach has to be specifically designed for, and rules out advanced tools. I'm sure there are lots of advocates for an iPhone inkscape app but I can't see it happening in any recognizable form!

Re: Converting patterns to paths

for hatches you could convert using 'object to path' and they should be seen... For fill patterns it's different... there is no way that I know to convert all the objects in a pattern fill to real objects. If it's pattern on path the same object to path should do. Once again the lack of any image re...

Re: PNG export quality

if you shared file it would be easier! This way is just slow and trial and error...but try editing your document properties to have opaque white background maybe? Are any of your layers set to screen or multiply? Also have you tried opening the png in a browser and not in photos, which is optimized ...

Re: Can you resize an object within a group?

can you tell why you want to use this particular LPE, or rather why you want this effect of attaching one end of the path to an object? Chances are that because of the end node always being cusp this will not give you the result you want. It's possible that in the future someone will change the LPE ...

Re: Can you resize an object within a group?

what an amazing LPE just so much you could do with it go team Inkscape! Of course when I say you I don't mean me!

Control click with the selection tool on any object in a group (or not) to select it immediately.

Re: Font Variants

Some of the free font families like J Ulanovsky's Montserrat just aren't robust enough for Inkscape's text tool. You might try Gotham (are you in Windows?) Alternately you could try installing the specific font you want again by itself and not as part of the package

Re: PNG export quality

Different programs read the transparency in PNG differently or not at all. This may be part of the problem you are seeing. Additionally there is always the question of antialiasing making text and other small high contrast elements look fuzzy and gray when exported to raster formats, and the solutio...

Re: Honeycombs

you are perhaps forgetting that 1. you will be paying - is it $500 now? - for a commercial product that will STILL have bugs that are on a much longer cycle of review and repair than Inkscape, months or years even, 2. People are showing you quite clearly -I hope - that work in fact is absolutely pos...

Re: Honeycombs

hi Julia the second example I used (gradient filled hexes) has the point at the top however the procedure is the same and the proportions of the rectangle too relative to the radius of the hexagon. (it is 3 radii X 2sqrt3 radii where the radius is the length of one side of the hexagon) You just turn...

Re: Honeycombs

Think long and hard (if you have a slow machine) before clicking on path effects envelope/perspective with a 2390 object group selected! 7 minutes for it to process initially!! Every little move of the envelope is very slow to update. Working in outline maybe helped. Amazed that it did it at all rea...

Re: Honeycombs

Trying to recreate your problem: it took my seriously old computer (Win10, Amd64, duct tape) 190 sec to unlink 1190 clones, 50 sec to ungroup 1192 groups, and about 10 sec to convert 1800 circles to paths. 6 sec to group 2390 objects.

Re: Honeycombs

The use saved size checkbox in tiled clones may be interfering with your procedure of stroking after cloning. instead of what you are doing change to "visual bounding box" in prefs and see if that speeds things up.... but better choices are there that don't require inkscape to do a lot of ...

Re: Alphabet Blocks

A useful way to make sure the first node, which determines the orientation of the mapped group, is in the correct place is to use a 4 node object which is open on one side. This makes one end the first node and the other end the last, although you may have to 'reverse path' if the result is backward...

Re: Alphabet Blocks

fairly easy or pretty difficult depending on how badly you want the corners of the cube to be rounded. In a nutshell, use the box tool to draw the cubes, then use the perspective extension (or the path effect if you are feeling brave!) to map the letter design to each visible face.

Re: Today's puzzler: Center the pattern of pink dots around the gray circle

Because whoever created this evil puzzle made the little circles have a total of 76 nodes instead of 75 or 60 Polygon's very logical method is almost but not absolute. two circles have 6 nodes and one circle has 4. there are more nodes on the tops of the circles than on the bottoms so even after mak...

Once you get the hang of it it's a solid and well designed part of Inkscape, both the Extension and the path effect. Bugs have been worked out a long time ago. Show a file, that way there is not going to be any distracting arguments about the advice people are offering you. As an example of the diff...

Re: Is there an automated way to indicate the center of circles

Cloning seems to be the way to go, that way if you decide to change the center indicator all will update at the same time. I think Tyler and I agree on what is 'a lot' of objects, in that the amount of work to individually do it for 20 circles might actually be the same or less than the amount of wo...

Is that a new rule for this forum? Which forums are covered? In the past, and I am not suggesting that this should be the case in the future, people using software like GIMP or Blender etc. would ask their questions or post images etc in multiple forums without censure. I understand that even asking...
