Someone else is going to have to give you the potrace and autotrace advice. Have you tried the Wintopo free app? you can have it running at the same time as Inkscape and just copy and paste the paths or save as eps and open in inkscape...

Re: Special Image Tracing!

Hi Caesar (Hail? :D ) I am assuming you are trying to use the built in tracer in Inkscape and trying to get the lines in your source raster image to be translated into vector as stroked lines and not filled objects. i don't think that even the most current inkscape lets you do this. You can try the ...

not clear what you mean here.

Brynn's solution as well as path/combine (compound path) will lose one of the objects' paint (fill/stroke) attributes.

Re: I can't find the "page" any more

I created a logo and now I need to save it as a 50 x 50 PNG file. Select your entire drawing, go to file menu/export bitmap, in the dialogue box that comes up at the very top depress selection (not page or drawing) and then click export at the bottom. You're done! Do not use the export as Cairo PNG...

Re: A better Dark Side of the Moon

Well, the crux of the matter as I understand it is that Inkscape does not support sweep (conical) gradients. I am not sure if this is a shortcoming of SVG or if it is also a planned future enhancement to the gradient tool. While I certainly don't want Inkscape to just copy features of other programs...

Check to see if your control for the :tool_pen: bezier tool's "Mode" is not set to either the straight line or the rightangled line setting. Although you should still be able to click with the node tool :tool_node: between two nodes and drag the line into a curve! Your problem is probably ...

yes that is a very good solution . I thought initially of recommending curve bend but since it has no numerical parameters I thought it would just be too much trial and error for your purposes.
Good luck.

Re: A label for a tumbler, cone-like cylinder

Hi Fractal! To Remap a pixel image you will have to use another program. GIMP can do this but it can get pretty complicated to do it precisely. One way would be to do a rectangular to polar conversion. You will have to calculate carefully how much extra "padding" to put around your image -...

Re: Interpolation problem

there are several topics here on interpolation problems. To start with, check to make sure that your interpolated drawing is not actually somewhere else on your canvas than where you expect it. Do this by clicking on the show drawing button on the view part of the toolbar. If the elements are there,...

Re: using Shift to disable snapping draws out handles

Hello Brynn!

At the right end of the toolbar there is an icon for disabling and enabling the display of node handles. I have found this useful in the situation you describe as well as when trying to move nodes in high density areas where clicking on a node picks a handle. Hope it works for you.

Re: moving borders between adjacent objects

For your purposes it would be best if you stacked your shapes instead of trying to butt them up against each other - sort of like - well, geologic strata! That way when you move a curve then the the layer underneath is revealed or obscured without any further work. The bottom layer would just be a l...

Re: How do I export the Outline view only?

You can save the file, select all, open the fill and stroke dialog, change fill to none, stroke to 2 or 3 px (depending on the size of your drawing) export the png, and then DON'T SAVE! do a revert. I can't think of any other workaround.
will this give you what you want?

Re: Ability to hide buttons and menu entries

Inkscape is open source so you can modify the code and recompile yourself a build that does not have these items - i guess :) But I am curious as to what difference it will make??? Removing some buttons from a bar will just create blank space on the bar, not give you any more space to work in. You c...

Re: Scanned Drawing into Vector: help!

Hi AB You might want to download a program called WinTopo (I'm assuming you are on Windoze). WinTopo will vectorize lines as lines and not shapes (centerline conversion). the free version is good but the bought version (not too expensive) even converts to smooth bezier - but you might not care about...

I would like to point out that the path effects method of envelope deformation is vastly superior to the envelope extension which can be very frustrating and nonfunctional and probably is destined to be taken out in future versions (that's just my guess) Path effects - the best addition to Inkscape ...
