Re: Shaped Text

Hi SUV maybe you can tell me what I am doing wrong in this sequence! I am sure it is something simple... Starting with a text object that has been converted to paths and then combined into one path: Drawing the control path in the specified order: Selected first the writing, then the quadrilateral: ...

Re: Shaped Text

hi SUV! It seems that you got the envelope extension to behave for you! Just for your future reference: if you don't want the curving sides when you deform something using Path effects just uncheck the box that says "enable right and left side ...". Bingo - absolutely straight sides - at l...

Re: Shaped Text

I would like to point out that the path effects method of envelope deformation is vastly superior to the envelope extension which can be very frustrating and nonfunctional and probably is destined to be taken out in future versions (that's just my guess) Path effects - the best addition to Inkscape ...

Re: How to create a transparent background

I think you may have created an SVG file in Inkscape and then "saved as (cairo) PNG" and found that you lost the transparency. The correct way to save a PNG with transparency is to use the 'Export as bitmap" option.

Re: eBook (Quick Start Guide)

Looks very nice. The blur thing is a problem, sadly. and Scribus is perhaps the most up-to-date SVG parser so you can't do better elsewhere. There are some labor intensive vector substitutes for blur (using interpolation) that will translate into scribus and i was thinking if it's just a glowing but...

Re: How can I give an eps image a transparent background?

You have to install ghostscript. you have to add the path to ghostscript to your system (if you are on windows). Then the eps should open in inkscape and can be edited.

Or you can post it here and someone can just convert it to SVG for you if it is just a one time thing.

Re: Overlapping objects - back object showing through

Okay, I have looked at the svg in inkscape but I am not sure what Items you want to be opaque that are transparent. I have a feeling that you might be talking about the oblique lines - the 'zoom' lines if you will - but you can see through these because they are not polygons but just two-node lines....

Re: Masks Ineffective in PDF and PNG

Also; the edges of my objects in the PNG are highly aliased at 100%. You can change the resolution of the PNG (before export, natch) to suit your needs. 100% refers to the dimensions of the picture, but you can have very fine resolution exports from Inkscape. I often use 600ppi just to be safe and ...

Re: Overlapping objects - back object showing through

There are several places you can assign transparency. Check your layer blending mode, the alpha slider as well as the overall opacity slider (the last two are in the fill and stroke dialog) My best guess is the A slider in your fill color is set to less than 255. Naturally this has never ever happen...

Is this effect only on autotraced files? i have not noticed it on my handdrawn work and I do not usually use full colour traces. Although i might need to sometime.

Re: huge pdf file size when svg contains jpg

I think that Inkscape might be rewriting the image as PNG and this might account for the slightly larger size. If you really want to know try converting the image to PNG in some other program and see if the filesize in Inkscape's SVG changes...

Re: Creating a watermark

They might be defining special internal layers for the PNG format, or they might just be referring to the fourth channel which contains the transparency info. It sounds as if they want 100% percent transparency in the clear areas and a maximum of 30% percent opacity in the image areas. Although inks...

Re: Is a gradient fill flowing in a circle possible?

No. What you are describing is a conical or sweep gradient. Inkscape does not support this style of gradient. From your description you may be able to approximate this effect with a blur or an interpolation since for the first 300 degrees of sweep you don't want any change.

hi Daryl. Please look in your inkscape file menu for the item document properties. in this dialog check to make sure that your doc is not set to A4 which looks much like US letter which is probably what you need to print (i am assuming you are in the US!) If this happens every time there are ways to...
