Re: distressed metal

Even pretty advanced users find it best practice to start with a reference photo when trying to recreate textures in vector format. Also, if you show us what you are shooting for better advice than mine will surely be forthcoming

Re: Are these SVG files corrupt? Canva claims they are, but I don't think so...

Try these 4 versions, if they all work, then the problem was saving as Inkscape svg instead of plain. If one of them fails then the problem was groups and layers

Re: Inkscape Tutorial for Engineers, 12 slides in PDF

Well, for engineers the Spiro is not much use I think, but decorative flourishes - curlicues - are actually much easier with Spiro than Bezier. The bspline is useful to achieve rounded corner shapes without using a lot of nodes and guide shapes etc. Because inkscape does not have a radiused corner d...

Re: Using the Difference command

Difference only works between two paths at a time! You can do what TD suggests and make all your holes into one path by using either combine or union, or you can just subtract (difference) each ellipse from the leaf one at a time... In fact if you want to use the combine command the difference opera...

Re: Inkscape Tutorial for Engineers, 12 slides in PDF

Pretty thorough! "Command Bar: Not very useful" made me laugh, too true. Too bad your pen tool page doesn't cover Spiro or BSpline though. IMO the space used for the explanation of Bezier curve equations could have been better used introducing Spiro and Bspline or the shape option. On the ...

Re: Erasing parts of grouped objects

The eraser has some options that may be affecting your ability to erase. The best thing to do is to switch to outline mode and use the nodetool to select and delete the nodes of the parts you don't want and generally clean it all up

Re: Text To Vector Not Working

After converting text the path or paths are always in a group, even in new versions, so that wasn't the problem, your other app just can't do groups maybe. Also there was a layer, which is a group as well which I took out.
glad it worked.

Re: Draw irregular shapes with parallel sides

I said, "This idea always seems like it should be possible but it is generally impossible to draw a curve that is always exactly the same distance from another curve." Meaning exactly this, when you have a curve that has any concavity and convexity (loosely put, some part of it cannot be r...

Re: Text To Vector Not Working

Try this version, and also please consider upgrading your Inkscape to the current stable version, I ungrouped and made everything into paths. You might also check to see if your target app can handle transparency.

you have to ungroup the text after converting it. The spreadshirt svg reader may not be able to parse groups

Re: Draw irregular shapes with parallel sides

This idea always seems like it should be possible but it is generally impossible to draw a curve that is always exactly the same distance from another curve. However your statement, "Distance may vary as per needs" has confused me, because it's not a parallel shape then? If you mean that y...

Re: cutting/segmenting a spiral?

I was tinkering to see if there was a stroke method to do this and came up with these little lovelies. Lazur, you probably know what they are called mathematically etc. It seems like the kind of thing you are an expert on! But I just like to stare at them at length very likely as a result of ingesti...

Re: Grow text by 3px

That's not directly possible in the GUI (Graphic User Interface*), and even with creating a lot of somewhat clunky guides to snap to it won't be very precise. But if you select each text object after giving it a linked offset and go into the XML editor (ctrl-shift-x) there's an attribute called &quo...

Re: Ellipse is all jacked up

Your ellipse looks weird because the stroke is a huge 152 mm causing it to overlap itself on all sides and intersect according to the fill rule which may not make sense to you right now but the short answer is make the stroke a reasonable width and your problems will be solved

Re: Path Linked Offset - Unexpected Result

Interesting that the difference operation - any Boolean, actually - does not convert arcs to Bezier! (Amusing sidelight: Boolean operations result in upper case letters, whereas the object to path results in lower case, so ... coded by different people?) Of course in theory arcs are slightly more ac...
