Re: Patch Design, bending complex shapes

An alternative solution that does something that can't be done easily with the LPE in its current state as far as I know is to use a two colored group of three objects and the Extension Pattern Along Path found in the Extensions menu in Generate from path. The pattern has to be above the circle it w...

Re: Not responding when ungrouping a specific file

I would suggest you completely uninstall Inkscape including support folders in Users, and reinstall the newest version. Did you at some time install a 64bit version over a 32bit version without uninstalling first? Like using msi instead of exe you might not even remember, just go into uninstall and ...

Re: Not responding when ungrouping a specific file

Are you saying you can open the file and work with it, adding objects etc. but it crashes only when you try to open that group? Can you open the file, do File menu>clean up document, Save as a different name, all without getting a crash? Did your laptop die while you were actually working on that fi...

Re: inkscape closed on its own

It closed because it could not process the last task you asked it to perform and the error condition did not meet the requirements for a message from the OS. It happens! If you know what it was that you last asked it to do some more info fom other users might be forthcoming, but please include your ...

Here's an alternate version of what you might do but unlike Polygon's this makes some assumptions about the coloring intent that are probably wrong! But the file is tiny though.

in the control bar for the fill tool :tool_paintbucket: make sure the drop down menu for 'fill by:' is set to visible colors. You also have to see the entire area on your screen for fill to work, i.e. don't zoom in.

Re: save in original dimensions?

look in Edit/preferences/interface to view and adjust for the 'zoom correction factor'. This has been in Inkscape for a long time so it may not be what is mentioned above as 'scale factor'. However this factor uses mathematical recalculation and will generally result in decimal place dimensions. I r...

Re: save in original dimensions?

Then I open the SVG file in my internet browser so I can save it as a transparent PNG. I need it to STAY 1280x720, but it comes out bigger. How on earth do I fix this? Lazur has addressed your question but I just wanted to mention that this step is totally unnecessary; inkscape can easily save a SV...

Re: How do you remove "handle to cusp node" message?

First, I think actually the original person's issue was fixed by Xav's suggestion, (turn it off, draw the circle, turn it back on) unless you know that person? It was two years ago... To address your issue, why is the message bothering you? The programmers have made it so the message appears far eno...

The principles of vector drawing are the same so you can learn that in Inkscape. But if you apply for a job that requires 'Illustrator skills' your Inkscape experience will not substitute for that.

Do your linked images have any filters or transformations applied to them? E.g. sharpen or contrast or rotation? Have you tried deleting preferences?

Re: Spot Colors

Ragnar, that is an interesting idea, to store the spot info in the SVG itself. How would one manage to keep it separate from the RGB when converting to CMYK for separation? Does xml have a setting to suppress a color without hiding the object?

Re: Spot Colors

Inkscape does not support spot colors. If the above approach from druban is not an option, import the SVG into Scribus, and use Scribus' functionality for spot colors, then export to pdf from there. I was hoping for a way to do it without having to download scribus but it looks like its my only opt...

Re: Spot Colors

depending on how flexible your printer is he or she could probably use one file per color and print from that. just ask them what registration marks they need and put them in the file. Working on a copy of the file, select everything that is the same spot color, and the registration marks, and delet...

usually this functionality is a feature of painting programs, not vector drawing; the GIMP for example can do this in a flash, but it won't be vector, although you can start with vector paths.

There's nothing to upload to YouTube, it's just a gradient and a blurred object. Open the file and look at it. If you are trying to learn Inkscape from YouTube videos I can't recommend that. Most of those videos are made by novice Inkscapers with the most rudimentary ability, some are possibly by ch...

But this greatly increases the total number of shapes on the drawing It only increases it by one third, and it is the simplest method. You can also convert the stroke object to a filled path and trim the shade path with it, this is more work but no more objects. The other way is to use a mesh gradi...

Re: Inkscape no longer wants to open.

Did you upgrade to the Windows next version preview that came out recently - creators or something? You can check in your update logs. Also when you reinstalled did you uninstall first? did you delete your inkscape folder from your users folder first?
