Re: Iterative art

As a followup, now the gradient fill is in a 45° parallel logarithmic spiral shape: https://orig00.deviantart.net/ee26/f/2017/352/a/a/impossible_rings_by_lazururh-dbx3h4r.png It is *way* more complicated than it should be to draw. Had the idea to make the two sides follow the opposite direction (far...

Re: Problem with image borders when exporting

The filter adds in extra space to the filtered object's visual bounding box. Thought you exported the page instead of the selected (filtered) object.

Filter can also be changed with the filter editor for an exact bounding box.

Re: Problem with image borders when exporting

Hi. As far as I know the next inkscape version will offer options on anti-aliasing on exporting. Until then, the pixellize filter can help. Group all objects, and apply the pixellize filter (filters/pixel tools/pixellize). Unfortunately this works only by making the alpha channels transitions "...

Hi.

Seems you lowered the opacity values somewhere.
Any chance you lovered a layer's opacity?

Re: CMYK drives me crazy

^With compromises from the very start. For a very long time people were using black only, typesetting cast letters and carve the graphic content in plates. Multicolour prints -like this one were not just made by clicking the print button. Parts of the colouring was painted manually, and alignment of...

Re: Bugs, Issues, and Fixes...Oh My!

That is a strange issue indeed under regular circumstances. If you draw over the 80000 px coordinates, the ghosting issue is present on every inkscape version - known bug . Larger portions can be missing upon different zoom levels, due to caches in the rendering process. Cache settings can be tweake...

Re: Iterative art

Further improvement on the custom gradient fill -built up from 180 different shapes -previous had the same shapes rotated by 1°. As a result, this fill follows the edges of the overall shape better. https://openclipart.org/image/2400px/svg_to_png/291971/ev10.png https://openclipart.org/image/2400px/...

Re: Iterative art

Thank you! Have to look more into this kind of stuff, the filters almost took over by number. Recently I'm revisiting the ring idea . This one , more precisely. Didn't realise there was an update on that impossible ring in 2015: https://openclipart.org/image/2400px/svg_to_png/227021/rgb-rings.png . ...

Now, something completely different -using gradients. https://openclipart.org/image/2400px/svg_to_png/291858/e10.png 42078 bytes -two gradient filled paths 63039 bytes -the two objects built up from clones 21099 bytes -after the cleanup, digits reduced to 4; but of which still results in noticeable ...

Setting the largest barrier here -272732 bytes. Everything is drawn as separate paths with no strokes but fills. No cloning. The numeric precision is set to 16 with a -32 minimum exponent. Yet it's still smaller than the original file?? Edit: how to track this challenge, there are quite a few varian...

The original image that sparkled the idea was 1099356 bytes and *very* sloppy. That's 0,07%.

Re: Strange Lines Appearing on Shapes

Hi. Two guesses: maybe the images were imported pdf-s made with ai and they had gradient meshes, which now are converted to flat filled objects with the apparent rendering gap issue . That case supersampling -exporting a larger image and downscaling it outside- can reduce the error. Or just drop the...

Great!
Guess we have a winner already.

My original intention was to see a variety of different constructions to "skin the cat".
Will post some obscure variations soon.

Didn't had to create a cmyk vector myself yet, the only solutions I know of are using scribus, or trying sk1.

Re: Vector Art Optimization Challenge #2

I made 7 variations beforehand announcing this topic, but didn't want to ruin the fun -actually my best bet was drawn with custom dasharray as well. Made some mistakes with it, will probably redraw it soon. (That file was so heavily compressed it crashed several time while zooming in...) Still, coul...

Re: Align tools on components of a group

^That's a nice one!

Using that method time to time but with many selected objects it doesn't work every time. Grouping objects temporarily can help it.

Re: Align tools on components of a group

There is, sort of, with a spacer object. Snapping fails to work sometime depending on the selection's complexity. Make a spacer object that exceeds the objects area in question, align it to the target object, create a duplicate (Ctrl+D), align it to the subset of objects -grouped temporarily- you wa...

Re: Vector Art Optimization Challenge #2

Nice one! Using a custom dasharray isa very effective way to deal with the pattern. For further optimizing, you can try https://jakearchibald.github.io/svgomg/ . And/or maybe we should set in the rules the minimal number of decimals used etc. Can get close to crashing with a low value.

Re: Vector Art Optimization Challenge #2

Only the rendering is relevant.

The original image is built up from ellipse objects so "arcs" may not be the best wording here. 46 sectors should be present in the image with a checker pattern of 40 rings (if I counted them right).

Vector Art Optimization Challenge #2 Challenge #1 was fun. In the name of belated continuity, some may be interested reviving the concept. This time the aim of the challenge is to compress the svg's file size as much as possible, while still maintaining the svg format which can be rendered live. He...
