Re: Details from sketch to inkscape

Check out Jason Secrest's youtubechannel for inking and colouring cartoons. His tutorials are awesome ! https://www.youtube.com/user/jasonsecrest/videos Its for Illustrator but the principles are the same. Instead of Brushes you use Pattern Along Path. Instead of the Knife Tool you use Boolean Opera...

Can you use the Spray Tool to stamp single objects ?

Im currently making pixel art by arranging simple blocks on a grid. Mostly i do this by duplicating and moving, but it would be so much easier if i could just stamp it, because its always the ame object im using. (i know that you can stamp with the space bar, but i dont like it) I tried setting all ...

Re: Filling an open path

I have overthought and overcomplicated it - Turns out that I should probably have been using the "Fill" tool - Duh + Facepalm. Dont worry, Inkscape requires a bit of a learning curve. Lots of things work with "tricks" and you just have to know how it works. When it comes to cart...

Re: Filling an open path

Hey, thanks for your reply. I have had a look at the LPE list and that one does not appear. Does it have to be installed apart or anything like that? As Lazur said, it comes with the latest version of Inkscape. The solutions you got so far are all technical exercises. Even said LPE will give you st...

Re: Filling an open path

Use the 'Fill Between Many' LPE In case the Strokes are one path, perform a 'Break apart' (if already broken apart, make sure they all have the same direction, if not apply 'Reverse') Draw a path (a rectangle for example), give it the desired Fill colour Apply the 'Fill between many' LPE to the rect...

Error when saving as a JessyInk zip file

Following the latest Chris Hildenbrand video , i tried to save an Inkscape file with layers as a JessyInk zip file and got this error: JessyInkError.png Im on Win7 and have installed the JessyInk code, that is provided under Extensions -> JessyInk -> Install/update... Anybody has an idea what the pr...

Re: Easy way to apply LPEs to multiple paths?

Nice to see some love for Jason Secrest youtube channel ! As TheGrudge, i have tried to ink a drawing Jason supplied, to check how well it works with Inkscape. Especially for this kind of artwork the Pap LPE could use some improvements. For example, every time you apply the pattern to a new path, yo...

Re: arched text with the Envelope LPE problem

I do think the issue is asymetrical nodes as I mentioned. Im not sure if i understand you correctly. I didnt get the need for a shape compilation. Everybody with a basic knowledge of IS, should be able to draw them. Or is theres something special about the shapes, that i am missing ? I do know the ...

Re: arched text with the Envelope LPE problem

Oh, I totally agree with that about the LPE, (I can't think of a case when you would want it all wobbly like that) just not sure why Bezier Envelope is not working for you. I posted an example where i used a frame and the Bezier Envelope Extension. Its the one with the green frame. Its all slanting...

Re: arched text with the Envelope LPE problem

It seems nobody is really following my train of thought, except for tylerdurden.

In theory the Envelope LPE would be a good tool to make arched text, if it only maintained straight segments instead of making them wobbly.
Surely the LPE could be improved to do just that ?

Re: arched text with the Envelope LPE problem

Here's a file someone made with some ready-made shapes for the Bezier Envelope extension: https://app.box.com/s/2y3orec08i53vgjay6ehzohclasiz5s2 You would still have to break up the ready made shapes for individual letters. This is what happens when you apply the text to the frame. BezierEnvelope.p...

Re: Flourish

It seems that was changed in V 0.92.1.

Shape Ellipse is now connected to Pattern Along Path, while Shape: Triangle is connected to Power Stroke.

I have no problem adjusting the width of a custom triangular shape copied to the clipboard.

Re: arched text with the Envelope LPE problem

I wished that would be the solution, but on trying, the text just gets more squished, so that it bulges more at the sides. It seems the LPE makes the path visually behave like a gel under pressure. What is needed for text to look good is really as simple as straight lines must stay straight lines. B...

arched text with the Envelope LPE problem

I made this little experiment of making not too extreme arched text with the Envelope LPE. For more extreme deformation i would use the Bezier Envelope Extension on individual letters, but that is always a lot of extra work, setting up the helperlines and drawing deformation envelopes. The result i ...

Re: Trickle out effect

There are already a lot of tutorials on the web for how to make splatters. Here is one that uses the star tool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zf9yBzuVoxQ Basically a drip is a rectangle with a circle at the end. Add some nodes, maybe apply simplify or node editing and you have a very basic drip. W...

Re: Shape Builder Tool

The question is not how to make a yin-yang symbol with boolean operations. I made the drawing exactly as in the video OP to demonstrate how to get the same effect in IS and also to point out, that in comparison to AI, Inkscape produces a lot more unnecessary nodes. The beauty of AI's pathfinder is t...

I got confused for a moment as well.

The trick is to exactly copy the values for the star, then remove the fill (!) and add a stroke.

Re: Shape Builder Tool

I am wondering if anyone knows about the Shape Builder tool in Illustrator. The tool basically allows you to overlay multiple shapes and when selecting those shapes you can combine, remove, intersect, etc, paths. As the fellow forumers said, it can be done with Boolean Operations. So in your case y...

Its kind of useful when you accidentally typed in 699 or 700,1 and it gives you the option of 700.

Still i would prefer a context menu.

Re: Making Seamless Tiles

Pattern fill is not raster because you can convert it back to the original vector objects and they scale right with no pixelation for every zoom level. Are you sure about this ? Maybe IS uses the stored vectorpattern as the blueprint for the raster pattern and tiles it. You never have gaps when usi...

I still dont see how these numbers are more useful than a copy/paste menu.

Tried what epiphany2 suggests, and the numbers i get are just as random as my random rectangle.
