Preparing hard-to-trace photos...

Sometimes, colors of a picture just melt together and you can't tell what the hell is happening.

Does anybody know some techniques that can be used to help this situation, and/or tracing in general?

I mean, anybody know how to use Gimp or something to make the colors in a photo more distinguished?

Re: Object menu > Filter Effects > crash

Sounds like something is corrupted somewhere. ;) Nuke your current Inkscape install and download a fresh one.

If that doesn't work, it's something on your computer... :?

Messed With Defualt.svg, Saved Crappy Initial View

I altered the defualt.svg file (the template that loads when you press the newpage button) to include some new filters I downloaded. I think I got that to work right. But now, whenever I make a new page, it's off center and zoomed out weird, probably because of how I saved it. Even if I overwrite it...

Re: Why do objects disappear when opacity is zero?

Right now I think all this is silly. But one day in the near future, I will need to work with a 0 opacity object, and I will be very bothered by it.

Re: intersecting lines

Heh. Pro tip: Color with a second layer.

Make a new layer under your line art, then make filled but strokeless paths to add color.

Re: circle with small cross at center?

What? Have you tried using the align menu? ctrl+shift+A. (Fixed, thanks kelan!) Hover over the icons to read what they do. Play around with it, you'll get the hang of it. Just remember that sometimes you'll need to group some objects for them to be treated correctly. Oh, and for the circle thing, pr...

Re: intersecting lines

Worse case scenario: Two curves that do not interest in the center. I don't think you can make a node that is shared by two paths, but you can make two nodes from two different paths line up perfectly. 1. Draw your lines 2. With the pen tool still selected, double click the intersection point to mak...

Re: Black and white

You may want to open it up in Gimp, switch to black and white mode, and save it. (And hope it doesn't start looking crappy) ;)

[solved] Rouge Dialog Box!!

I like having my dialogs in the little built-in palate on the right, so I can have inkscape fullscreen with the dialog out of the way. But I accidently yoinked my layers dialog out of it, and I can't get it to go back. I've tried sliding the window back onto the tab, reloading inkscape, and pressing...
