Re: exporting PDF

Well, you have to have the font the PDF uses installed on your computer. You could go to What The Font and try and match it, but it is likely the font is NOT freeware... :?

EDIT: Oh wait, have you tried disabling the "Import text as text" option when you import the PDF? That might work.

Re: exporting PDF

Not sure on this, but could it be because you do not have the font used in the PDF installed on your computer?

EDIT: Realized that the above would only apply if the PDF was something you imported and then re-exported...

There's also a place to change the properties in the bottom left of the screen. Furthermore, if you hold shift and click a color, it will change the stroke instead of the fill.

The black outline on the tree is way too pixelated... It's especially jarring because the rest of the piece is so smooth. ;)

[solved] JPEG Artifacts

I avoid using JPEGs whenever I can. I know there are pros and cons for doing so, and JPEG has its merits, so please don't argue that here. Anywho, a lot of applications will accept several different file formats, but then convert them all to JPEG. This gives my Avatars lots of nasty artifacts. :x Is...

Re: Advise for an already vector software design (see picture)

The reason for developing a new SVG editor is that you can make it how you want, but if you develop something for Inkscape some people may not agree with your changes. If Inkscape lacks something so major that it would compel you to write your own program, why not simply add that feature to Inkscap...

Have you tried out the new stuff under 'effects'? They put in some pre-made filters and some interesting new things to render.

Oh, and I subscribed to the RSS feed. Great work, man!

Hmmm, it won't work for me. Is it because I have Vista? Could you explain how we prepare things to be animated. I mean, do we need to have stuff selected and on different layers or what?

What type of file is the pattern? Is it a raster image, or a vector? Could you post the Inkscape document with the pattern not yet disappeared?

Re: sh: python: command not found

Inkscape comes with Python (or as much of it as it needs), so he shouldn't need to install it manually. Try re-downloading Inkscape and make a fresh install. If that doesn't work (and you tried installing python manually) it might be your operating system.

Re: Just a silly question about cutting out heads from photos.

If you want to do it roughly, IE: in the shape of a circle, then you can use Inkscape's clipping function. If you want to essentialy remove the background, then Inkscape is not the best tool to use. I recommend the gimp , an open source (free) photo editor akin to Photoshop. This tutorial explains h...

Re: Compatible with Vista, Office2007, Photoshop Elements?

Well, it works on Vista. You can export a finished file as a PNG image, which you should have no trouble using in another program. I think Photoshop might even be able to read an SVG file, but you'd have to make sure you save it as a standard SVG rather then the default Inkscape-enhanced version.

Re: Coordinates generator

So, you want to generate a text file with a list of coordinates offset (by a specified value) from the existing points? I don't know of any existing script that does that. That actually doesn't sound too difficult to script though. Without any knowledge of Python or how one scripts in Inkscape, I co...

Re: Restaurant Menu

I agree that color variation is usually a good thing, but not always. For something like a menu, it might be better to use fewer colors to limit distraction. Readability has to be kept at a maximum. Like micro said, if the restaurant has a color scheme, you need to keep to it. From the pictu...

Re: shapes organisation

Just to make sure this is how you're doing it, it's best to use the layers dialog, instead of the buttons on the bottom and in the tab. To open it, press shift+ctrl+L. In the layers dialog, when you make a new layer, (plus sign) you have the option to place it below, above, or "as a sublayer of...

Re: Define custom dash(stroke)

Pfft, XML editing. You could try using custom markers. What that does is place a predefined shape on top of each node in a path. If you make sure all the nodes in a path are evenly spaced, it should have a kinda similar effect. To make a custom marker, you need to first draw what you want eac...

Umm... when you vectorize something, it almost always produces a far from perfect vector version of the original image. :? You may want to embed the image, or save it in a more permanent location before importing it into Inkscape.

I think we need a little more information. How are you importing? How are you exporting? Are you embedding the PDF in the SVG? Can you print the original image?
