Text problem with Inkscape -> Scribus

Postby Carlos Jorge » Tue Apr 08, 2008 9:27 pm

Hi all,

I'm designing my magazine's layout in Inkscape, but when I import the SVG in Scribus, all the text is ignored or its showed all wrong...
Does anyone have the same problem or knows how to solve this? I'm using 0.46 running on both Windows XP SP2 and Ubuntu 7.10, with the same result... Scribus is the most recent stable version...

Converting the text to lines is a bad idea, even in a Core2Duo 6850 with 4Gb of memory, it is veryyyyyy slow, and I can't work with the file... In Scribus, 30 or 40 pages like that and not even the Pixar's Renderfarm would help :D.

Anyone? Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Carlos Jorge

Is there a particular reason you need the font to show up in the svg? For scribus the best thing to is import graphics and then insert your text with scribus. See http://docs.scribus.net/index.php?lang= ... cribus-svg

This explains the problem...

The current version of the SVG-Import Plug-in has the following limitations:
1. Text isn't supported fully yet.

Well, I don't like Scribus much, if it was possible, I would do everything in Inkscape and then publish in Scribus the full package, but I guess I wont be able to do that. I have to make a choice, do everything in Inkscape or learn and adapt to Scribus as well...

I was used to do everything in Corel Draw and then publish to PDF, but I guess now I have to divide the work...

Thanks for the answer, now I know it can't be done like I hoped...

You'd better install the latest Scribus (1.3.5svnRC3). So many errors are solved.
Inkscape can export to rastered PNG in 300dpi and export to PDF, as well.
Inkscape is not a DTP program, so don't wait too much about text processing. :(
