Has anyone experienced anything similar after installing this new release?
When I started installation, I was asked for uninstalling previous/existing installation (48.4) and it seamed quite fine at the moment, but now - aside of these missing icons, there`s even no Default palette among others missing from the list. Keyboard shortcuts are not working (E, for an example)...

hello Maestral:
Are you in windows?
There is an installer 0.48.5-1 that i installed today. And so far no problem with the icons.
Maybe, somehow, you deleted your personal preferences
If you have problems:
1.- Post a sample (or samples) of your file please.
2.- Please check here:
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/index.html
3.- If you manage to solve your problem, please post here your solution.

Hi hulf,

Yes, I`m on Win7 64, but now that you`ve mentioned... inside of the installation folder, there is only one folder (lib) and no other files aside of inkscape.exe and 50 .dll`s ?! I`ll try with another installation tomorrow and post here afterwards.

p.s.
I pretty much sure I used 0.48.5-1 installation initially / I followed the link from Espermaschine`s post.

Probably the icons.svg is missing or located in a different folder than inkscape could link for the theme.

This post may have the right target folder, and an icons.svg too.

Something went wrong during the previous installation since this new one, which I`ve just completed, resulted in a perfectly functional edition of Inkscape.

I`ve checked again and it was 0.48.5-1 installation which I used initially and I guess that automated uninstall process could made some "unexpected turns". Thank you all for assistance.

Any Win 64 builds of 0.48.5 that anyone knows about?

You are a grand source of info as always. What do the letters in the tattoo stand for?

Edit#2: Wow, this version of Inkscape (Inkscape 0.48.5 r10040) opened so fast that it gave me whiplash! Less than a second?

According to:

http://inkscape.org/en/news/2014/07/18/ ... -released/

"We will be focusing our efforts on 0.91 (previously 0.49)"

Why the change in the numbering scheme?

Maybe to reflect all the work they put into it.
I personally don't care what number it has, as long as I get some new goodies.

Does anyone hopes to predict when it will be released version 0.91 (0.49)?
Yes, I know, this is almost imposible..... But anyway? In a few months? In a year? Two years? Three?

Maybe 9 months as an estimate. You can download 0.91pre2 now, which was just "released" (almost released, waiting for packaging). I'll hazard a 95% confidence interval as 3 months to 2 years.

The trunk is usable, and its reliability is inferior to 0.48.5 but not by much. 0.48.5 has problems too.

Note that I'm not associated with the development team though.

Last time I checked make distcheck there were just a handful of
warnings. I haven't checked recently but suspect we're at 90%
now.

How are we doing on the release notes? When I checked a couple months
ago they were looking quite good so assume we're past 90% there too?

For the OSX packaging I have a huge amount of notes about many things
that we need to do, but essentially it sounded like we're going to
postpone any major work until next release, and just use the existing
X11-based scripts. su_v has pointed me at a branch with some osx stuff
that needs reviewed/landed, but otherwise is there any other major
OSX packaging or porting work I need to be aware of?

For Windows packaging, I don't really have much in the way of notes.
Sounds like the current scripts mostly just work, and modulo a few
platform-specific bugs we should be good to go. There was work
being done on a Win32 Installer using the WIX toolset but this sounds
still in progress and not something we need to worry about for this
release. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Looking forward... Once the above stuff is settled we'll be entering
Freeze. This is both a Feature Freeze and String Freeze. I'll post
more details when we get there, but to answer what I think will be a
common question - bug fixes can still be landed freely, it's just that
feature work and anything that changes user visible (translatable)
strings will need release manager approval (i.e. me or Josh). I don't
think anyone is planning work of this type so this should be a
non-issue.

Probably the next question is how long until Freeze is done? I think we
need to keep it going at least 30 days, to give ample time to
translators. But most of the tasks for this phase are straightforward
and I think we won't need much more than 30 days.

After that comes Hard Freeze, where we tend to whatever release blocking
critical bugs remain (hopefully none by now!) and finalizing everything
for the official release. Maybe we'll have 0.91 out the door by
Thanksgiving.
