it is a defect in the touch select, and appears to be different from the OP request here.

Yeah, It's different. And when I saw the post date, I lost all hope requesting a feature. I'll try though.

go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape

Yeah but is this the right place to request new feature?
It looks like it's just for bug report.

It's the right place for bug reports and feature requests.

If you read the last comment by the OP in the bug report:
Maybe an option could be added to the Selector tool preferences ?

I'd say that qualifies, particularly since it was converted from bug to wishlist.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Using the marquee/select-box/drag-window to select, a quick look around the local makerspace shows:

S= Surround
T= Touch
LR= direction dependent (L-R surround, R-L touch)
G= user can toggle S or T in settings

Corel X4 - S
Inkscape - S
Illustrator - T
Affinity Design - G
Scribus - S
Google Draw/Slides - T
LibreOffice Draw - S
sK1 - S

Solidworks - LR
Fusion 360 - LR
Alibre Design - LR
Moment of Inspiration - LR
V-Carve Pro - LR
LibreCad - LR
FreeCAD - S

So it seems the illustration programs that use touch are in the minority, CAD commonly gives the option on the fly with LR.

What TD means?

Yeah but Illustrator alone has probably more users than all the rest combined. So Adding this as an option would really help them and make everyone happy. And am not an Illustrator user btw, I use Fireworks which you didn't mention along with many software using T.

Great. But I'd be concerned that that one last line is going to get overlooked once the bug is fixed.
Many places specifically ask for clear and separate requests. Where the title reflects the content as best as possible. So we break out sub-requests into separate, new items. And close old or outdated (part-fixed) ones.

Fireworks is dead. Five years dead.

If there were a clamor for touch select in Inkscape, there would be more than a couple of requests for such a feature over the past ten years.

Considering how many products are available that do not use touch select (despite Illustrator being the "gold standard" to emulate), maybe it's not that important to include.

But in the interest of making everyone happy, I'll learn how to code and get right on it.

Yeah but, people are still using it. And Adobe is still "selling it" throught the Creative Cloud subs.

Well it doesn't mean people don't want/need that feature.

MAYBE. Maybe.

One thing I can garantie you though is that, If they ever add it, you'll see that 90% of tutorial you'll watch on YouTube that use that version will select by touch. That is something I guarantee you.

But in the interest of making everyone happy, I'll learn how to code and get right on it.

Okay, now this is the part I don't understand exactly what you mean.
