[Solved] Closing a resolved post

I'm pretty lucky on this forum as most of my questions are quickly answered, mostly by members with loads of patience, but my problem is simple.

I know how to unsubscribe to a topic, but not how to close it as 'RESOLVED' so no one wast their time posting to it, thinking the post is still active.

Can members close resolved posts or is it only mods who have the ability to do this.

I'd like to know the answer to this as its now at the back of my mind (but won't loose any sleep over it).

Thanks a lot.

Hi.

Just edit the first posts's title with a "[Solved]" tag. Moderators can do the same thing as well if needed.

There's actually no requirement that posts are marked as solved or closed. And marking them solved doesn't prevent anyone from posting in them again. I see such topics getting posted in for long after they are marked as solved, all the time. So personally, I don't find it helpful to have them marked.

If there were some way to prevent posting in a topic, after it's marked solved, that would be a different story. But that would also create other problems.

...well, as mentioned above... I am nevertheless commenting to a solved question...
In contrast to @brynn, I consider marking questions with [solved] as useful.
1. this shows that the original poster was satisfied with the answer(s) and his problem was solved and
2. if you have many titles with similar topic, I am going to read the ones with the [solved] tag first because I expect to get an helpful answer and probably can skip the others.
There is so much written in forums... It needs time to read all this. Sometimes, it takes a few more questions to state the question more precisely and understand what the OP really wanted to know. I am still hoping for a compression program condensing the essence and filtering out all the unnecessary and useless information around.
I consider marking topics with [solved] as a first simple filter.
